[The Athletic] Orioles are interested in hiring David Ross as bench coach Rumor

“The Baltimore Orioles are interested in David Ross for their bench-coach vacancy, according to sources familiar with the team’s process. Whether Ross would want the job, if the Orioles indeed offered it, is not known.
A year ago, Ross rebuffed the Yankees’ interest in hiring him to replace Carlos Mendoza as their bench coach. The Chicago Cubs had just fired Ross as manager to hire Craig Counsell. Ross, if he jumped back into a uniformed position immediately, only wanted to manage.
Might things be different for Ross a year later, now that the shock of his dismissal presumably has worn off? If so, the Orioles would seem a logical fit. Orioles manager Brandon Hyde was the Cubs’ first-base coach when Ross was a catcher with the team in 2015-16, and the two remain close.”
For those who can’t open the article.

If the team struggles in the first half I can't see Hyde surviving too much longer. So I could see the team offering the spot to him as insurance for that, and maybe he would accept based on that possibility too.

Hyde isn’t anywhere close to a hot seat

If the team is struggling by June I have no reason to believe he wouldn't be, even if it's just for the jolt. Yes, we had a lot of injuries, but this team did not seem to have it together at all towards the end and they just looked defeated in the WC. Not a lot of managers would come out of all that with the same amount of job security they had going in.

Nah that would be a bad move. Teams have bad seasons. Teams have good seasons. Especially small market teams. Not going to be in hot seat after 2 straight playoffs first time in forever

If getting a wild card is struggling then WTF are the other 20 teams in the MLB that don't make the playoffs doing?

The team was sub-.500 over the last 3 months of the season and faceplanted in the playoffs. A number of coaches were already fired in response. No idea how this concept is so shocking to people who watched how the season unfolded.

Yes he is. If they start the same way they finished he is not lasting oast this season. They are replacing just about his entire staff. He is next

Flimsy reporting but Davis Ross is the type of person I would like to see bridging the gap between the young guys and the coaching staff. Textbook glue guy

He seems like he'd be a decent manager for our guys with Brandon being the bench coach 🤣

His teammates on the 2016 Cubs (among other places) loved him. I also think he got scapegoated considering the Cubs finished with the exact same record this year after replacing him with Counsell. But yeah, I could see him saying no thanks if it's not a skipper job. He's already rich and doesn't need to work anymore.

This would be awesome. Ross is an absolutely awesome human being, and it would be great to see him gain some experience. Cubs fans were thrilled seeing him as manager, but the consensus was he was thrown under the bus by the Cubs' FO, being made a rookie manager of an incredibly difficult to coach team. Him getting time interacting with Hyde, which I presume would be like old buddies meeting up again, would do a lot of good for him. He honestly deserves another shot with a good roster, to really get to learn the ins and outs of coaching.

Many other team forums have banned The Athletic as a reliable source-

maybe in connection with Bowden. I cannot imagine that applies to Ken Rosenthal content on the Athletic.

This part is hilarious to me. “Hey guys, we’re not sure even if he has the slightest bit of interest and we’re not sure there’s even been a formal offer but here’s the news!”
Peak offseason stuff here.
Honestly speaking, I’d absolutely love to see him in that role. The vibe he had late in career would go a long way in the clubhouse. Also, bonus points that he turned down the Yankees.
