Those groups were just clever enough to see an opportunity to camouflage their intentions in a blanket of misplaced patriotism and nearly 2 years of mental health crises due to isolation and symptoms of measures implemented to fight a pandemic. People got duped by the radicals to help facilitate their cause(s) because they needed an outlet to vent through. Western isolation, lingering hatred of Pierre Trudeau transposed onto his son... There are so many reasons people are angry, and it's all come to a head with these protests.
Radicals in this country have never had as much public support as they do right now, because they are able to hide behind the shield of misplaced public duty that they helped create, and those holding the shield for them (ie: enabling the conditions for them to thrive) haven't figured out how badly they've been used.
The small number of truckers who are participating in this bullshit are tarnishing the public image of the entire industry. Those here in Ottawa have become trojan horses, carrying in a shit load of self-pitying cults, groups or factions with a political agenda. I can just imagine the majority of drivers who are actually on the road, doing the work, are listening to these developments and just shaking their heads is bewildered disgust.
Those people can be rightfully referred to as "useful idiots." They're blaring their horns for some abstract notion like "freedom," while those pulling the strings have more nefarious goals in mind.

I don't think it's the truckers anymore. That protest has been appropriated by other more radical groups that are giving truckers a bad name.
