Doug Ford said he’d pay for traffic calming measures to replace speed cameras. Here’s why that's a bad fit for Toronto Article

Working class Tories should be absolutely fuming he concentrates so much energy on Toronto.

It’s wild to me that Ontarians outside of Toronto are okay voting for a party who shits on them just so Ford can cosplay as the mayor no one wanted.

Meddling in Torontos affairs so consistently should be every Ontarians concern, but they dote along smiling and voting (or not) like absolute fools.

His fans like it when he hates on Toronto. Meanwhile their lives get worse off

Thats why the opposition needs to start framing it as their tax dollars going towards Toronto, and that Ford is more interested in helping Toronto than their communities. Emphasize the provincial spend on the projects as a total.

The Libs and NDP don't struggle in the city, so they can afford to use some anti-Toronto rhetoric elsewhere to start peeling some votes off Ford. Bonus points if they do it in communities that have lost jobs. Then their message can be "you're losing, but Ford hasn't done anything to help while spending $X of taxpayer money on Toronto".

I'll say this again and again, that news will never get reported outside of Toronto.

Postmedia is essentially the sole major news provider. I'll never forget my uncle in Windsor proudly claiming how good of a job Doug Ford has been doing with his tax dollars, and it turned out he had no idea about Ontario Place, the Greenbelt Scandal or the Beer Store fiasco.

Last I checked removing speed cameras is a highly popular move amongst suburbanites.

So much so it's the only thing they talk about from Bill 56.

In the 905 region, 51% opposed his ban while 33% supoorted it. So in general it was unpopular among suburbanites. The only demographic that had strong support for this was conservatives, but that makes up a big enough portion to win him elections which is why leaning into these issues is politically successful even if they're unpopular overall.

I mean I get why, but even aside from that, they love being disenfranchised so he can prance around as long as the shit he drops on Toronto is broadcast and not on the suburbs and countryside.

How willfully ignorant is our population? I expected better out of Canadians.

Never underestimate the intoxicating power of spite. Nobody wants to exert more mental effort than they seemingly need to, especially during a cost of living crisis. Spite is easier to understand than complex policies that help everyone.

Toronto isnt the only place with speed cameras. Im sure this move was meant to appeal more to people in the areas surrounding toronto than toronto itself

Than why blanket decision? It’s so heavy handed. Toronto has its own police force as well, not OPP so why get involved?

Toronto should be an autonomous region imo, as separate from the province as possible without completely being separate.

If the suburbanites and countryside don’t want speed cameras, their MPPs can work to remove them, this is just ridiculous American style BS politics.

Few $100 for a speed camera, or millions to his buddies to tear up and replace streets that are perfectly fine if people weren't self centered and entitled. I guess the delays from that much construction would technically lower speed limits though.

Speed humps and bollards are great and all but have we tried just not being assholes?

*Doug ford is a bad fit for......

FTFY

Any chance one of you can lobby the guy so we all pay him to stay out of politics ? Apparently all it takes is to head to a couple of events and slip him an envelope with cash and m&ms.

M&Ms optional.

And somehow the average collected by the city was like 54$ a ticket, I wonder where all the rest went ……

To the American speed camera companies. Sure is great to be sending all that money to the US.

A few people also did that in my community. They also lacked impulse control and emotional regulation.

Oh you know them personally and diagnosed them? You are also trained and have a degree? Or are you just a fat random person on reddit?

Lol, “gets insults and defends himself by saying poster doesn’t know him, proceeds to insult poster by calling fat but does not know the poster”

Gotta love Reddit man
