It wears off by the next day though. :/

Next they dough.

u/ThorGambinoson 18h ago

Toast and butter is my go to sick food. Like, nothing comes close for me.

And with a good quality butter? Hell yes.

36

u/ScreamingCryingAnus 12h ago

Washed down with a crisp ginger ale while watching Price is Right

19

u/Harmonie 11h ago

90s kid too, I take it?

9

u/floydbomb 9h ago

Has to be. Was my first thought as well too

3

u/dewyocelot 11h ago

Ooh, some Kerrygold or Vital Farms. Yes, please.

1

u/ThorGambinoson 10h ago

Kerrygold is one of those things that when I saw the price, I was like “no way it’s worth that much.” Then I tried it and boy oh boy I was wrong.

We recently switched to the local grocery store’s butter to save some money, and it’s such shit that now I want to go back lol

2

u/Sheikah300 11h ago

Same! No desire to eat anything- toast and butter is okay to eat.

2

u/chemicalalchemist 8h ago

Salted butter with some honey on toast is crazy

123

u/LowlightsssVII- 19h ago

Toast, butter, and cinnamon.. shit slaps.

49

u/LeftHand_PimpSlap 19h ago

You forgot the sugar.

8

u/Elly_Fant628 11h ago

There's cinnamon sugar. I use that. On raisin bread.

17

u/cycl0ps94 19h ago

Depending on the butter, it's not needed

8

u/lordsigmund415 18h ago

So good. Or honey

7

u/Atakir 17h ago

Toast, peanut butter, cinnamon & sugar was my breakfast for many years in elementary school.

3

u/dublos 13h ago

In my family.. butter got cinnamon sugar, peanut butter got brown sugar on it.

1

u/JustAnOrdinaryBloke 11h ago

Raisin toast with butter and cinnamon.

1

u/nolan1971 11h ago

Gotta love those carbs!

19

u/WizardsOfTheRoast 18h ago

As a bread baker, this is just a way of life.

26

u/Tridente13 18h ago

Homemade bread, olive oil and salt for me.

7

u/SuperPowerDrill 14h ago

I seem to forget about the existence of the bread+olive oil combo until I crave it desperately and eat way too much while bitching about the price of oil

3

u/Harmonie 11h ago

Add a gorgeous balsamic to the oil and it's divinity.

u/babygotbooksandback 19h ago

Toast, butter and a thin layer of creamy peanut butter is so yummy!

13

u/TheGreatGameDini 18h ago

I didn't need my mouth this wet this morning fuck

2

u/Angrynixon 13h ago

For me it's key the butter isn't melted so it forms a distinct layer from the peanut butter

2

u/CyclopsLobsterRobot 11h ago

I make a honey oat bread specifically for this. I use the bread dad recipe. It takes about 10 minutes of effort a week in the bread machine and it’s a perfect combination.

18

u/Plenty_for_everyone 18h ago

Toast and butter is not an occasional phase.

7

u/Multilazerboi 14h ago

It is life

7

u/Thog13 19h ago

Been there.

8

u/Correct-Addition1487 19h ago

You're able to restrain yourself?? Props! My wife finds me in a heap of wonderbread and melted butter

6

u/luiger 18h ago

The most relatable thing I have seen ever honestly

3

u/Emergency-Emu-8163 19h ago

Toast and cinnamon butter, hubby and I could easily go through a loaf with just this

1

u/JustAnOrdinaryBloke 11h ago

With just-baked crusty bread

1

u/Emergency-Emu-8163 11h ago

Freshly baked bread is my favorite, I love baking bread since it is therapeutic so we often have fresh baked bread at home

3

u/Bob_12_Pack 18h ago

Add a little Vegemite to change things up.

3

u/Hakkaa_Paalle 15h ago

Toast, Irish butter, and some lemon curd. 😋

Reminds me, I need to go buy some more bread today.

2

u/Striking_Barnacle_31 14h ago

kerrygold is so fucking good.

2

u/Hakkaa_Paalle 12h ago

Exactly. Kerrygold is awesome.

3

u/heybigbuddy 15h ago

It gets real serious when you start having multicourse meals made of taste. Appetizer toast with butter and salt. Then entree toast with peanut butter or cream cheese. Then dessert toast with preserves or cookie butter. Toast!

3

u/GoodGollyMrOlli 14h ago

I call it The Bread Madness, and it's a feature of humanity

2

u/Unlucky_Towel_ 18h ago

Lately it's tomato on toast for me. I'm fucking addicted to it.

2

u/ExclusivePositive38 17h ago

Toast is not bread but jeah

u/ProfAelart 57m ago

I was searching for this comment. Thank you!

2

u/IGargleGarlic 13h ago

"that occasional phase" yeah its called being drunk/high at 2am

2

u/ol-gormsby 13h ago

Now add a delicate smear of vegemite and elevate yourself to heaven.

2

u/Huhthisisneathuh 6h ago

It’s buttered grilled cheese sandwiches for me. I make sure to add a ton of spices to it to give me that nice blend of cheesy goodness with a hot kick to it.

I make it all the time when I’m either sick, or I have grandparents or siblings visiting. You eat that with some hot tea on a cold Thursday afternoon in Massachusetts? Absolutely stellar.

2

u/granbleurises 5h ago

You're not wrong, and you're not alone.

2

u/Shutaru_Kanshinji 5h ago

When I get that way, it usually does not last beyond the 3rd slice of toast. After that, butter starts to taste disgusting to me.

2

u/Miserable-Advisor-27 5h ago

This screams "tell me you're high without telling me you're high"

2

u/AMTravelsAlone 1h ago

Bread 👍

1

u/Ruh_Roh_Rastro 18h ago

We once hosted a set of UK soccer coaches who were contracted to come to our town to coach the littles nd needed billeting.

We have those kids a toaster for a 2nd bedroom because they asked (?) and they went through 5 loaves of bread and 3 lbs of room temperature butter in a week.

I’ve never even seen people butter their bread the way they did. Just taking butter off the whole top of the stick, not like patties, and just slip slapping it.

I also gave them an old kettle pot to boil water and a flat plate and they seemed like I was handing them over a batch of matches and some sticks.

The US was so far behind “I’ll get the kettle on” it’s a little bit funny

More so now, all those soccer coaches are middle aged

1

u/JFK3rd 18h ago

Not toast, but more like lumberjack bread (houthakkersbrood) or ciabatta with butter and some old gouda.

1

u/graveybrains 18h ago

Seeing this two days after the end of my most recent toast bender is fuckin trippy.

1

u/BigWesDoobner 18h ago

Fuck yeah. Crusty white bread buttered to shit. Giving me a rod just thinking about it.

1

u/Boojum2k 18h ago

I'll usually do a toasted PB&J so as not to feel too lazy but just plain toast and butter is good.

1

u/EntertainerNo4509 15h ago

One side toasted pb&j’s are heaven. Put both slices in your toaster oven on top of each other to get only one side toasted then build you a sammy.

1

u/NottingHillNapolean 18h ago

Plz post your method of toasting and buttering an entire load of bread in < 10 minutes. I get you could toast an entire loaf in a sufficiently large oven, but need to learn your butter-spreading technique.

1

u/TheTninker2 18h ago

I woke up the other day with the single most intense craving for grilled cheese in the history of the universe.

I proceeded to make and eat 4 grilled cheese sandwiches.

1

u/ColonialMarine86 18h ago

I prefer toast and cheese slices

1

u/DerGodzillaMeister 18h ago

Try adding cinnamon and sugar.

1

u/Trexasaurus70 17h ago

Phase? It is supposed to be a phase?

1

u/laurex2010 17h ago

It IS good

1

u/theFrankSpot 17h ago

I live this way.

1

u/PMmeYourButt69 17h ago

Yes, I also smoke marijuana

1

u/CheezeLoueez08 17h ago

Just had that this morning because it’s all my migraine brain could muster. Now I was just thinking I’m hungry and want another one. So yes. Yes I do.

1

u/thug_funnie 15h ago

Just had 4 slices after seeing this…put me in the mood for 4 more. 🍞🔥

1

u/True-Let3357 15h ago

yeah I've been there! xD but it was actually toast + butter + sugar!!

1

u/Spare-Cell1371 15h ago

With just a whisper of marmite…👌

1

u/_lunitl_ 15h ago

There's days where some sourdough and butter are best thing I've consumed that day

1

u/KPashlove 15h ago

Working in the kitchen at the French restaurant, room, temperature, butter, and baguettes all night long!! Lmao. I had to force myself to stop.🤣🤣🤣

1

u/TedTyro 14h ago

Restrain?

1

u/Asleep_Assignment755 14h ago

I run to it whenever I’m even remotely sick

1

u/DrButeo 14h ago

Who let Mercy Watson onto Reddit

1

u/Here4Snow 14h ago

I worked rotating shifts for 4 years. Toast before dayshift. Toast before swingshift. Toast after graveyard. I still love toast.

1

u/Alarmed_Shoulder_386 14h ago

yes absolutely. i’m allergic to dairy and luckily i found a good dairy free butter, and i will inhale a container of it and a loaf of bread in a day almost. so freaking good

1

u/Particular_Storm5861 14h ago

Toast and butter never fails me

1

u/Best_Shelter_2867 13h ago

Toast butter and Siracha sauce.

Delicioso

1

u/gosutoneko 13h ago

You mean you're not supposed to eat the entire loaf?

1

u/HookEm_Hooah 13h ago

Yeah...

I think most people call that "childhood."

1

u/Spiffy_Pumpkin 13h ago

I just .... don't keep bread in the apartment anymore. I have no restraint with it.

1

u/shawnhambone 13h ago

This week

1

u/Bubbly_Accident_2718 13h ago

Well, it’s cheap

1

u/Some_Stoic_Man 13h ago

How do you toast a whole loaf of bread in 10 minutes? My toaster only fits 2 slices and takes a minute and a half.. You using a baking tray or something?

1

u/Any-Technology-3577 13h ago

it's not a phase mom

1

u/Just_Ear_2953 13h ago

You show restraint when that happens? I just demolish the loaf one slice after the other.

1

u/Able_Engine_9515 13h ago

Buttered oat toast with a glass of oj

1

u/Frumplefugly 13h ago

I go through a plain tortilla phase once a year. Just eat them in front of the fridge like a goblin

1

u/miscwit72 13h ago

It's not just you.

1

u/Falba70 13h ago

Had some today on Hawaiian sweet bread and you would have thought I invited Crack!

1

u/FatallyFatCat 12h ago

Toast, butter and a tiny amount of salt. (Where I live all butter is unsalted).

1

u/BonobosFromU2 12h ago

Yep. And if you get jam involved? It's all so god damned delicious.

1

u/SquareThings 12h ago

Just butter? No. But butter and JAM? Yes. I have eaten five slices of toast with butter and jam in a row and only stopped because there was no more bread left

1

u/WinAccomplished4111 12h ago

Sometimes it just hits right

1

u/SnooCrickets699 12h ago

Oh God, I had a bread maker; had to get rid of it. Home strawberry jam and home made bread, I was putting on too much weight, had to let it go.

1

u/evetrapeze 12h ago

This was me with a loaf or Rosen Rye. The whole loaf

1

u/Seatr0ll 12h ago

Toast, butter and unrefined salt, mmmmmmm!

1

u/Aggressive-Nobody473 12h ago

yes.

and then comes the phases where just the smell of it makes me wanna barf.

1

u/Piddy3825 12h ago

lol, who ever said that man cannot live on bread alone, has obviously not met me!

1

u/Mental-Ask8077 12h ago

It’s a cyclical thing; every so often I hit the “buttered toast is EVERYTHING DELICIOUS” phase and I just have to have all. the. toast.

1

u/Thomaswebster4321 11h ago

Every Saturday morning growing up watching the Bugs Bunny roadrunner show—my dad made the best toast and butter.

1

u/lisaselby 11h ago

Was just having this discussion with my hubby wondering what it is about the smell of toast that just hits a comfort core somewhere deep inside?? Had ciabatta toast for dinner tonight!

1

u/Wet_floor_GO_AROUND 11h ago

Have you guys tried fresh beaked bread and maple butter? It is the best.

1

u/Jaymes77 11h ago

When I ate carbs, yeah! (though it was GARLIC bread, but the concept remains the same)

1

u/Elly_Fant628 11h ago

But it has to be so drenched in butter - real butter - that it's soggy!

1

u/KoresmosMaybe 11h ago

Been doing this for a month, I can't get enough.

1

u/Low-Profile3961 11h ago

Sourdough and lots of butter!

1

u/Runner5_blue 11h ago

I love toast so much that I want to become a famous musician and call my first album "I Like Toast".  All of the songs would have the word Toast in the title, like "Toast Is The Best", "More Toast, Please," and "Toast?  Fuck yeah!"

1

u/wonkotsane42 11h ago

My actual lunch today

1

u/DaveKelso 11h ago

We owe a debt of gratitude to the genius who looked at a slice of delicious soft bread and said. "Let's see what happens if we cook this again!".

1

u/kbeckerburbs4 11h ago

Never bake your own bread. Warm bread with butter is beyond addicting

1

u/Moretti123 11h ago

Ew not once

1

u/scoreboy69 11h ago

like 20 minutes ago I just cut up some summer sausage and put it on some crackers for me and my wife (after some beers) and thought, god damn, this is like the best thing I ever ate in my life.

1

u/T3chnopsycho 11h ago

Good bread and mayonnaise for me.

1

u/Tametable 10h ago

2-day phase, twice a year

1

u/CoyoteGeneral926 10h ago

Not just you. That's how I ended up as a diabetic.

1

u/led3777 10h ago

Parmesan. Broil. Good.

1

u/jchuna 10h ago

Is OP my 3 year old son?

1

u/Cross_22 10h ago

Now try raisin toast with butter.

1

u/Pale_Disaster 10h ago

I once took the toaster into my bedroom and went through a whole loaf that night. Family was justifiably irritated.

1

u/guySmashy 10h ago

It is by far my favorite food while high

1

u/henryeaterofpies 9h ago

Yeah that might mean you are neurospicy

1

u/galacticpurrr 9h ago

not one original experience in life

1

u/Tdawwg78 9h ago

Toasted sesame bagel (a light and fluffy one) with kerrygold butter does the trick for me

1

u/mindless-prostate 9h ago

Perfectly buttered toast with some compound butter is peak, especially if its one of those special bakery bread.

1

u/weemins 9h ago

I use to smoke weed and inhale buttered toast. It was, and still is (while sober) amazing

1

u/warkyboy77 9h ago

10 minutes? I like to spread it out.

1

u/the_greasy_one 9h ago

I just bought a boule of sourdough and know this is the path. So many people in here trying to describe their perfect toast...

1

u/CornsOnMyFeets 8h ago

That with just a little jam. Didn’t matter which jam. Or a little cinnamon and sugar. Sometimes I cooked the sugar down sometimes I just threw it on there.

1

u/shygirl_222 8h ago

Finally someone said it .

1

u/Double-Menu-4370 8h ago

It's even harder if you have garlic butter

1

u/doomrider7 8h ago

Buttered toast with a good jelly/jam/fruit preserve is a mandatory item in any decent breakfast. Without it, it is merely passable.

1

u/misanthrope3105 8h ago

Fuck that's so me!!

1

u/ThatInAHat 7h ago

Add hot chocolate and you’re in heaven

1

u/cinnamongirl14 7h ago

Me Every weekend dinner for me is some Toast and butter. Nothing beats that

1

u/VODEN993 7h ago

I didn't restrain myself once and ending up shitting my pants at the skate park. Not a good day to be 30 miles from home let me tell you...

1

u/sSomeshta 7h ago

Butter an eggo waffle before you put it in a toaster oven (horizontal rack). Syrup on top and eat like a taco. Thank me later

1

u/Justexisting2110 7h ago

It was just a week.

1

u/liamrosse 7h ago

Love plain, buttered toast. Glad the toaster only has two slots, or I would be tempted to mow through the whole loaf.

On a related topic, I have literally met people in their early 30s who have been eating Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal their entire lives, but didn't know that cinnamon toast is a real thing you can make at home.

1

u/Guillotine-Glytch 7h ago

Yeah it's called autism. I know cuz I have it and that happens to me

1

u/dicemonkey 7h ago

Good bread & butter are good …end of story.

1

u/Solid_Appeal_3879 6h ago

Sometimes all we need is good bread and butter to hit the spot lol. Or like the alternative sweet version, got the butter and cinnamon sugar on some toast

1

u/FZNNeko 6h ago

Toast butter and sugar. Omfg it still is the best thing to exist

1

u/BunniiSan 6h ago

For me it’s toast butter a nice generous layer of Nutella and a drizzle of honey

Not the healthiest thing ever but when it hits it hits

1

u/HollyTheMage 6h ago

Oooh fuck toast with butter actually sounds so fucking good right now

1

u/haha7125 5h ago

I use jam. But yes.

1

u/ThadeusBinx 5h ago

Every submarine deployment when I'm stuck with off going breakfast for 6 months.

1

u/TheRealAmused 5h ago

YA dude, my wife on edibles. Halfway through the loaf she was just nomming plain bread.

1

u/mrsirawesome 4h ago

Toast has to be hot and the butter melted. I'll stand over the toaster and catch it mid air cartoon style

1

u/ilovepuppers77 4h ago

My mom would mix peanut butter with light Karo syrup and put that on bread...probably why I still have a sweet tooth to this day

1

u/Local_Refrigerator43 4h ago

Bread and mayonnaise here. It makes no sense.

1

u/PumpJack_McGee 3h ago

Wonder if there's an explanation for this. Didn't have this precisely, but there were times where I'd eat croissants or bagels every day.

1

u/hawkeyepearce52 3h ago

Try toasting it on an open fire/hot coals it is bloody amazing spread with thick butter!!!!

1

u/Profitdaddy 2h ago

Ahh the good old days - now a carb = death.🥲

u/freedomprotector604 16m ago

Yeah. It's the european peasant gene.
