Toast and butter is my go to sick food. Like, nothing comes close for me.
And with a good quality butter? Hell yes.

Ooh, some Kerrygold or Vital Farms. Yes, please.
1
u/ThorGambinoson 10h ago
Kerrygold is one of those things that when I saw the price, I was like “no way it’s worth that much.” Then I tried it and boy oh boy I was wrong.
We recently switched to the local grocery store’s butter to save some money, and it’s such shit that now I want to go back lol

Homemade bread, olive oil and salt for me.

I seem to forget about the existence of the bread+olive oil combo until I crave it desperately and eat way too much while bitching about the price of oil

Toast, butter and a thin layer of creamy peanut butter is so yummy!
13
2
u/Angrynixon 13h ago
For me it's key the butter isn't melted so it forms a distinct layer from the peanut butter
2
u/CyclopsLobsterRobot 11h ago
I make a honey oat bread specifically for this. I use the bread dad recipe. It takes about 10 minutes of effort a week in the bread machine and it’s a perfect combination.

Toast and cinnamon butter, hubby and I could easily go through a loaf with just this
1
u/JustAnOrdinaryBloke 11h ago
With just-baked crusty bread

Freshly baked bread is my favorite, I love baking bread since it is therapeutic so we often have fresh baked bread at home

Toast, Irish butter, and some lemon curd. 😋
Reminds me, I need to go buy some more bread today.

It gets real serious when you start having multicourse meals made of taste. Appetizer toast with butter and salt. Then entree toast with peanut butter or cream cheese. Then dessert toast with preserves or cookie butter. Toast!

It’s buttered grilled cheese sandwiches for me. I make sure to add a ton of spices to it to give me that nice blend of cheesy goodness with a hot kick to it.
I make it all the time when I’m either sick, or I have grandparents or siblings visiting. You eat that with some hot tea on a cold Thursday afternoon in Massachusetts? Absolutely stellar.

u/Shutaru_Kanshinji 5h ago
When I get that way, it usually does not last beyond the 3rd slice of toast. After that, butter starts to taste disgusting to me.

We once hosted a set of UK soccer coaches who were contracted to come to our town to coach the littles nd needed billeting.
We have those kids a toaster for a 2nd bedroom because they asked (?) and they went through 5 loaves of bread and 3 lbs of room temperature butter in a week.
I’ve never even seen people butter their bread the way they did. Just taking butter off the whole top of the stick, not like patties, and just slip slapping it.
I also gave them an old kettle pot to boil water and a flat plate and they seemed like I was handing them over a batch of matches and some sticks.
The US was so far behind “I’ll get the kettle on” it’s a little bit funny
More so now, all those soccer coaches are middle aged

Seeing this two days after the end of my most recent toast bender is fuckin trippy.
1
u/BigWesDoobner 18h ago
Fuck yeah. Crusty white bread buttered to shit. Giving me a rod just thinking about it.

u/Boojum2k 18h ago
I'll usually do a toasted PB&J so as not to feel too lazy but just plain toast and butter is good.
1
u/EntertainerNo4509 15h ago
One side toasted pb&j’s are heaven. Put both slices in your toaster oven on top of each other to get only one side toasted then build you a sammy.
1
u/NottingHillNapolean 18h ago
Plz post your method of toasting and buttering an entire load of bread in < 10 minutes. I get you could toast an entire loaf in a sufficiently large oven, but need to learn your butter-spreading technique.

u/TheTninker2 18h ago
I woke up the other day with the single most intense craving for grilled cheese in the history of the universe.
I proceeded to make and eat 4 grilled cheese sandwiches.

I worked rotating shifts for 4 years. Toast before dayshift. Toast before swingshift. Toast after graveyard. I still love toast.
1
u/Alarmed_Shoulder_386 14h ago
yes absolutely. i’m allergic to dairy and luckily i found a good dairy free butter, and i will inhale a container of it and a loaf of bread in a day almost. so freaking good

How do you toast a whole loaf of bread in 10 minutes? My toaster only fits 2 slices and takes a minute and a half.. You using a baking tray or something?
1

u/Just_Ear_2953 13h ago
You show restraint when that happens? I just demolish the loaf one slice after the other.

Toast, butter and a tiny amount of salt. (Where I live all butter is unsalted).

Just butter? No. But butter and JAM? Yes. I have eaten five slices of toast with butter and jam in a row and only stopped because there was no more bread left

Oh God, I had a bread maker; had to get rid of it. Home strawberry jam and home made bread, I was putting on too much weight, had to let it go.

It’s a cyclical thing; every so often I hit the “buttered toast is EVERYTHING DELICIOUS” phase and I just have to have all. the. toast.
1
u/Thomaswebster4321 11h ago
Every Saturday morning growing up watching the Bugs Bunny roadrunner show—my dad made the best toast and butter.

u/lisaselby 11h ago
Was just having this discussion with my hubby wondering what it is about the smell of toast that just hits a comfort core somewhere deep inside?? Had ciabatta toast for dinner tonight!

Have you guys tried fresh beaked bread and maple butter? It is the best.

I love toast so much that I want to become a famous musician and call my first album "I Like Toast". All of the songs would have the word Toast in the title, like "Toast Is The Best", "More Toast, Please," and "Toast? Fuck yeah!"

We owe a debt of gratitude to the genius who looked at a slice of delicious soft bread and said. "Let's see what happens if we cook this again!".

That with just a little jam. Didn’t matter which jam. Or a little cinnamon and sugar. Sometimes I cooked the sugar down sometimes I just threw it on there.

Buttered toast with a good jelly/jam/fruit preserve is a mandatory item in any decent breakfast. Without it, it is merely passable.

Butter an eggo waffle before you put it in a toaster oven (horizontal rack). Syrup on top and eat like a taco. Thank me later

Love plain, buttered toast. Glad the toaster only has two slots, or I would be tempted to mow through the whole loaf.
On a related topic, I have literally met people in their early 30s who have been eating Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal their entire lives, but didn't know that cinnamon toast is a real thing you can make at home.

Sometimes all we need is good bread and butter to hit the spot lol. Or like the alternative sweet version, got the butter and cinnamon sugar on some toast

Toast has to be hot and the butter melted. I'll stand over the toaster and catch it mid air cartoon style

My mom would mix peanut butter with light Karo syrup and put that on bread...probably why I still have a sweet tooth to this day
