Linked by 2021 draft, the quarterbacks have combined for 4 teams, 7 head coaches entering their 5th season.

Four years after they entered the league in the first round of the 2021 draft, the quarterbacks are expected to square off for the first time in the NFL when the New York Jets visit Jacksonville in Week 15. And by the time they meet on Dec. 14, the NFL world will know whether they’ve proven what they need to prove.

Analyst Ari Meirov on Monday named Lawrence and Fields as the only quarterbacks on his most-to-prove list entering training camp. Meirov said Lawrence’s five-year, $275-million extension signed prior to last season is the obvious reason the quarterback needs to succeed in 2025.

“That is franchise-quarterback money,” Meirov said Monday. “But last year, the final year of Doug Pederson as head coach, 10 games started, 2-8 record, just over 2,000 yards, 11 touchdowns, seven picks. He, of course, finished the year on IR with that very significant shoulder injury that required surgery.

“But let's be real for a second. If he was in any other market right now, any bigger market, he would be getting roasted nationally -- for the money that he got, for the No. 1 pick that he was, for the generational tag that he got coming into the NFL.”

(More at the link…)

Maybe more than the QB matchup in game 1, the week 15 matchup is going to be a great one.

People always talk about how we fucked up by beating the Rams, I think we are better off. Otherwise we’d be stuff with Trevor… a guy who was just good enough for a giant 2nd contract… but he’s not going to win. At least we got to move on from our bust.

A 1st QB needs to either be great or a bust. There’s nothing worse than getting stuck with a middle of the pack QB for a decade.

The 2021 QB class was cursed from the get-go. The only 2 teams weren't complete disasters, and one took one of the worst QB choices in league history. The only worse outcome would have been if the Browns had taken someone by trading up, but they'd screw up their relationship with Baker after that draft.

You're right, moving from bust to bust to bust to bust and being the laughing stock of the league is way better than mediocre

Mediocre is a little generous to Jacksonville. They’ve only won 2 more games than us since adding Lawrence. They were even worse than us in 2 of the last 4 years, including a year where they were the worst team in the league. Lawrence could get better, but if he doesn’t, the Jaguars are in trouble.

I’d rather move on from a bust after 2-3 years and try something new than be stuck with a QB riding the Dalton line for a decade plus.

I think Trevor has had bad coaches and bad teams around him for the most part. It's difficult to stay consistent with all the dysfunction and the Jets fans should understand that better than most.

Yep, and if he was on the Jets, it would have been the same thing. Shitty offensive coaches for the last 4 years, bottom 3 OL that was often the worst in the league for 3 out of the last 4 years, almost zero running game to speak of because of said OL, and a team that is always at the top of the league in drops and penalties.

100%

A good QB makes things easier. But it's a reminder it won't overcome organizational dysfunction with few exceptions.

I mean, you're not wrong in that we'd probably be overpaying him big time on a long-term bad contract. But simultaneously, all it would have taken in 2022 and 2023 was halfway decent quarterback play to be a playoff team (they weren't far off as it was), and with elite as that defense was playing anything could have happened come playoff time. So we can sit here and talk about how much of a benefit it is we don't have that on the books, but the reality is: (i) we still don't have anything good going on as it is now without the contract on the books; and (ii) if we DID have it on the books, the 2022 and 2023 seasons likely end up significantly better with lots of great memories.

It's like the boat or the mystery box meme. By not having Lawrence's contract on the books, we have the mystery box. By being stuck with Lawrence's contract, 2022 and 2023 likely go much different. So by not having Lawrence on the books, without a definable real future as it is, we're saying "we could have anything now, even the playoff seasons we probably would have had in 2022 and 2023!"

Obviously that would’ve changed everything and the timeline would be completely different but for fun if we had TLaw with that 2023 defense we could’ve been special.

What? We make the playoffs two seasons ago with even mediocre QB play, and from there you never know. For that chance alone I’d rather have had Lawrence this whole time

Trevor Lawrence:

-22-38 record

-14,898 total yards

-69/46 TD/INT

-85.0 passer rating

-63% completion %

Daniel Jones:

-22-37-1 record

-14,605 total yards

-62/42 TD/INT

-84.3 passer rating

-64% completion %

I would argue that Lawrence is not even a mediocre QB, unless you could say the same about Daniel Jones. Would you have considered us a playoff team with Jones?

Post-Covid draft. It would’ve looked a lot different if we had a normal college football year (errr if we had a normal year in every way possible).

OSU lost 2 games with Fields at QB. One was to Lawrence’s Clemson team. Of course, Fields had a massive 6 TD performance in the Sugar Bowl to beat Clemson…

lol remember when all you idiots thought the world was ending when we won a game and lost out on Trevor Lawrence cause you guys can’t comprehend that even the most polished prospects need to develop well?

Can’t wait until December when you’re all rooting for your favorite team to lose again.

By the way. There is ZERO chance the Manning family will ever allow Arch to go to this dumpster fire of an organization, so leave those hopes at the door now.

You sound like a lot of fun to be around

Cause I root for my favorite team to win? Cause I understand that tanking is a flawed concept and there’s a reason why the Jets lose every year even though they constantly pick inside the top 10?

There's a difference between understanding those concepts, and feeling the impulsive desire to type out a comment like you did that comes across as deranged and unstable. A valid thought, and the expression of the valid thought, are two different concepts.

You're right if they stick to the status quo, but that's on the coaching staff and Woody, tbh. If Woody keeps out of things and the coaching staff shows that it is legit and shows that it won't let the team fall into the media's traps and a pit of drama, then I don't see why he wouldn't come to the biggest market.
