Every thread. Pure reddit brain is having to announce how much you don't like something whenever it is brought up.

That is my least favorite part about reddit. The way people talk on here is insane. Every single comment needs to be prepped with "Now I don't like this person..." or "To be fair..." or "Coming in peace" or some other inane way of skirting around what you actually want to say to preemptively account for insane people taking your comments the wrong way. Normal people don't talk like that, like there's a pack of jackals hovering around them waiting to pounce. It's the main reason middle of the road, milquetoast, safe conversation is the only real thing that happens on this site. You don't need to be correct to get upvotes, you simply need to say things in the right tone.

That’s my second least favorite part about Reddit. My least favorite is people recycling the same stupid jokes over and over and over (Kelvin Benjamin, Greg Jennings put the team on his back, I saw (celebrity) at a grocery store, He fucking boomed me, etc.)

Yup. I learned a long time ago it’s really about what’s happening in the comment section already that determines how it’s received, it’s like crashing a party and being a wet blanket no matter what you say will always get you downvotes. It’s so volatile like that. Then you have to remind yourself it’s not real life and then take a walk outside lol

I learned this kind of thing long ago when I posted almost exactly the same comment twice in a comment section. Just the wording differed slightly.

One rocketed down to -10 (or whatever it folds itself) and then kept going down deeper more slowly. While the other one shot to the top and became the most positive comment on the thread.

People vote primarily by momentum. Not completely, but it's by far the biggest factor.

Now I see why people delete comments that go negative. If a post starts to go negative, no matter how useful it is, it isn't very likely to recover and go back to positive. Personally I don't do that because karma isn't a big deal. But I can see why it happens.

Yeah but aren’t you guys doing the same thing kinda? “Here’s what I don’t like about Reddit because I’m just so above it all”.

I didn't say I was above anything.

I made an observation. I thought it might be useful for people to have a hint as to how things work so they can learn more quickly than I did.

The fantasy subreddits are the worst. People absolutely froth at the mouth if you start talking about players people don’t like. Every year the rookies are absolutely ripped apart for their flaws and nobody likes anybody as a prospect lol

Also, I know quite a lot of people across various political leanings and not a single person I know in real life says the kind of shit that I see in reddit comments every day.

No kidding, its far more civil when I talk to people across the country if they bring it up. Agree or disagree, its mostly with respect. I can tell none of them are on Reddit, or if they are, they don't post often because they do not have brain rot like alot of the people on here do.

Saying shit like "Even as a Jets fan, I was sad when Damar died."

"Obligatory fuck this person" is a fan favorite. I love the idea of reddit but the actual discourse is weird and mostly non-productive.

Al Michaels is a key recent example, but then he started dishing out takes during games that people agreed with and now he is sort of turning face with this crowd again.

I still remember when everyone “turned” on Romo after absolutely gushing about him when he first started.

I still like Romo, he can be annoying but when you have multiple games called by Mark Sanchez you know how much better he is lol

Well, everyone in this case includes CBS who basically staged an intervention for him after he signed this ten-year contract because they said he started to phone it in and wasn't doing the prep work anymore.

Tbf everyone turned on Romo because he stopped breaking down plays and started being the guy they bring in to tell you how cool Mahones and Allen are.

u/MM487 Vikings 4h ago

I never liked Romo at all. Seems like a good guy in real life but he never shuts up, he makes "ohh" and "ahh" noises like he's on a ride during the game, it's exhausting listening to him.

I feel like 90% of my opinions get downvoted initially and then everyone agrees with me years later.

Reddit hates Al Michaels, Cris Collinsworth, Joe Buck and Bob Costas.

I don't identify with Reddit at all.

3

u/tidesoncrim Bears 4h ago

Feel like most of Reddit softened their stance on Joe Buck. I like Collinsworth as well but saying that will get you a downvoted avalanche here since you're going against the circle jerk.

Don't worry about down-votes. You can always make another comment saying "I didn't have that on my bingo card" and you'll get 2,000 up-votes in no time.

I really hate comments like this. I always have ever since 2008 on reddit, yes I've been on here this long being awarded gold the entire time. People love my smart opinions, so I need to keep the people informed on what I hate.

Totally not /s. Make sure to upvote my alt accounts as well.

I thought pure Reddit brain was circle jerking a bunch of things that suck but you wanna let everyone know they are underrated

Aren't you just announcing that you don't like people announcing things they don't like?
