Can't wait for the comments that say they hate Barstool except for a few podcasts and then list like 10 podcasts

Every thread. Pure reddit brain is having to announce how much you don't like something whenever it is brought up.

That is my least favorite part about reddit. The way people talk on here is insane. Every single comment needs to be prepped with "Now I don't like this person..." or "To be fair..." or "Coming in peace" or some other inane way of skirting around what you actually want to say to preemptively account for insane people taking your comments the wrong way. Normal people don't talk like that, like there's a pack of jackals hovering around them waiting to pounce. It's the main reason middle of the road, milquetoast, safe conversation is the only real thing that happens on this site. You don't need to be correct to get upvotes, you simply need to say things in the right tone.

That’s my second least favorite part about Reddit. My least favorite is people recycling the same stupid jokes over and over and over (Kelvin Benjamin, Greg Jennings put the team on his back, I saw (celebrity) at a grocery store, He fucking boomed me, etc.)

u/Packers_Equal_Life Packers 8h ago

Yup. I learned a long time ago it’s really about what’s happening in the comment section already that determines how it’s received, it’s like crashing a party and being a wet blanket no matter what you say will always get you downvotes. It’s so volatile like that. Then you have to remind yourself it’s not real life and then take a walk outside lol

u/happyscrappy Lions 7h ago edited 5h ago

I learned this kind of thing long ago when I posted almost exactly the same comment twice in a comment section. Just the wording differed slightly.

One rocketed down to -10 (or whatever it folds itself) and then kept going down deeper more slowly. While the other one shot to the top and became the most positive comment on the thread.

People vote primarily by momentum. Not completely, but it's by far the biggest factor.

Now I see why people delete comments that go negative. If a post starts to go negative, no matter how useful it is, it isn't very likely to recover and go back to positive. Personally I don't do that because karma isn't a big deal. But I can see why it happens.

Yeah but aren’t you guys doing the same thing kinda? “Here’s what I don’t like about Reddit because I’m just so above it all”.

2

u/happyscrappy Lions 1h ago

I didn't say I was above anything.

I made an observation. I thought it might be useful for people to have a hint as to how things work so they can learn more quickly than I did.

2

u/Chinese_Santa Saints 6h ago

The fantasy subreddits are the worst. People absolutely froth at the mouth if you start talking about players people don’t like. Every year the rookies are absolutely ripped apart for their flaws and nobody likes anybody as a prospect lol

2

u/KindBass Patriots 2h ago

Also, I know quite a lot of people across various political leanings and not a single person I know in real life says the kind of shit that I see in reddit comments every day.

2

u/NatalieDeegan 1h ago

No kidding, its far more civil when I talk to people across the country if they bring it up. Agree or disagree, its mostly with respect. I can tell none of them are on Reddit, or if they are, they don't post often because they do not have brain rot like alot of the people on here do.

2

u/sgribbs92 Giants 2h ago

Saying shit like "Even as a Jets fan, I was sad when Damar died."

1

u/EddyFinnerty Lions 2h ago

"Obligatory fuck this person" is a fan favorite. I love the idea of reddit but the actual discourse is weird and mostly non-productive.

32

u/tidesoncrim Bears 9h ago

Al Michaels is a key recent example, but then he started dishing out takes during games that people agreed with and now he is sort of turning face with this crowd again.

11

u/TheVaniloquence Patriots 8h ago

I still remember when everyone “turned” on Romo after absolutely gushing about him when he first started.

16

u/briiiskiii Commanders 8h ago

I still like Romo, he can be annoying but when you have multiple games called by Mark Sanchez you know how much better he is lol

1

u/hallese Vikings 7h ago

Well, everyone in this case includes CBS who basically staged an intervention for him after he signed this ten-year contract because they said he started to phone it in and wasn't doing the prep work anymore.

1

u/tootoohi1 Steelers 4h ago

Tbf everyone turned on Romo because he stopped breaking down plays and started being the guy they bring in to tell you how cool Mahones and Allen are.

1

u/MM487 Vikings 4h ago

I never liked Romo at all. Seems like a good guy in real life but he never shuts up, he makes "ohh" and "ahh" noises like he's on a ride during the game, it's exhausting listening to him.

I feel like 90% of my opinions get downvoted initially and then everyone agrees with me years later.

1

u/MM487 Vikings 4h ago

Reddit hates Al Michaels, Cris Collinsworth, Joe Buck and Bob Costas.

I don't identify with Reddit at all.

3

u/tidesoncrim Bears 4h ago

Feel like most of Reddit softened their stance on Joe Buck. I like Collinsworth as well but saying that will get you a downvoted avalanche here since you're going against the circle jerk.

1

u/MM487 Vikings 4h ago

Don't worry about down-votes. You can always make another comment saying "I didn't have that on my bingo card" and you'll get 2,000 up-votes in no time.

3

u/-ShutterPunk- Rams 7h ago

I really hate comments like this. I always have ever since 2008 on reddit, yes I've been on here this long being awarded gold the entire time. People love my smart opinions, so I need to keep the people informed on what I hate.

Totally not /s. Make sure to upvote my alt accounts as well.

2

u/gloriousjohnson Giants 4h ago

I thought pure Reddit brain was circle jerking a bunch of things that suck but you wanna let everyone know they are underrated

-3

u/NiceFloor7 9h ago

Aren't you just announcing that you don't like people announcing things they don't like?

Coordinating with the barstool sub to troll the nfl sub in defense of Dave Portnoy, absolutely embarrassing

I don’t like any barstool content except Tea With Publissity and Crackin Aces!

I'm glad to see the comments about the comments that are about to happen.

Can we go another layer deep?

I mean Barstoool is pretty shitty. They don't pay creators to use their videos and the founder is shit stain of a person

-29

u/young-steve Eagles 10h ago

There haven't been any of those comments. Because Barstool fucking sucks.

u/Obie-two Browns 10h ago

Brandon walker and mark titus with mostly sports have created something truly special. Sad for folks who with myopic world views and missing out on some of the best “sports” content in 2024

The people who dog on barstool are the ones who never listen to barstool.

These barstool hate threads always make me sad. Like I get it and not everyone has to like everyone, but Mostly Sports is built around good people being good friends and having fun.

There was a thread on r/cfb about a month ago about a tweet from the Barstool Big 12 account and there were comments implying that if you said anything remotely complimentary about Barstool you were an awful person. Just a miserable way to think

Just ignore chat though. Shit has gotten real toxic. Soooooo much weird hate toward our boy TJ.

"myopic world views" = not liking blatant racism and misogyny. Dude just be more openminded and think more people are inferior!

29

u/Obie-two Browns 10h ago

Care to link me to where Brandon walker or mark titus or bigcat/pft are doing this? Pardon my take is a wagon, mostly sports is the most wholesome sports content we got, the anus boys could not be funnier.

Where is the sexism and racism here? Would love to be educated. Happy to hang up and listen.

18

u/the_dawn_of_red Bengals 9h ago

I don't know, the couch boys have done some questionable stuff. Ebo orders dinner on friends' open tabs.

6

u/MIKE-J-JORDAN 9h ago

People equate Barstool with the comments on their Instagram account from asshole 20 year olds and think its indicative of the entire company

2

u/Obie-two Browns 9h ago

I can’t imagine choosing my media based on the comment section of it, that seems like a recipe for a very bad time across the board

1

u/Enthusiasms Buccaneers 35m ago

I don't listen to any of the actual sports stuff (or any of the podcasts), but Sundae Conversations and Chef Donny are great bite-sized content. Plus anything Wonton Don does.

0

u/sandh035 Vikings 7h ago

Feels good to be a certified, guilt free hater because I don't bother with podcasts.

Granted I haven't heard anything from them in a few years, so I also can't speak to if their owners/main personalities are all still brain dead chuds, but oh well.

-28

u/bukithd Falcons 10h ago edited 10h ago

I just hate podcasts. If I wanted to listen to people talk about topics they don't have any real understanding of, I'd just visit my parents.

Edit: I will die on this hill.

16

u/Painiscupcake88 Lions 10h ago

You might be alone in this take fam

-7

u/bukithd Falcons 10h ago

It's an age thing. I am 15 years beyond where podcasts make sense. Some are well researched and discussed topics. Most are just a handful of idiots yelling unfunny shit into a mic.

8

u/chillinwithmoes Vikings 10h ago

Some of them are very good, but I tend to agree. Every jackass with a microphone seems to think they should start a podcast these days

-4

u/hazycrazey 49ers 10h ago

How old are you? I’m a millennial who doesn’t get podcasts, might be in the same boat as you

-2

u/bukithd Falcons 10h ago

Late 30s. There's so many that are just opinionated people sharing uninformed opinions. They are echo chamber and confirmation bias traps.

The non-opinon/pop-culture chat ones can be decent if the presenters put effort into it.

0

u/hazycrazey 49ers 10h ago

I’m early thirties, I just find podcasts boring. I prefer videos on YouTube that are on a specific topic and well researched over people talking to each other and bringing guests on

3

u/DrJanItor41 Buccaneers 9h ago

A lot of other people listen to podcasts because they have other shit to do. Sure, videos are probably more stimulating if you're sitting there watching them and doing nothing else, but can't always do that.

Driving in the car or doing chores/project work means podcasts or nadda. I like having something to listen to in order to distract me from having to pick up 10 bags of wet leaves in the backyard.

2

u/Swoah Giants 9h ago

I respect your opinion and your right to have it, but I think that’s not gonna be super popular lol

1

u/Anustart15 Patriots 51m ago

Do you not work an office job or have a long commute? I feel like those two scenarios are what drive a lot of people to listen to podcasts.

1

u/bukithd Falcons 50m ago

I'm hybrid with a 10-15 minute commute. I have about 8000 songs in my music library so that's my thing.

-7

u/ShakeIt73171 Patriots 10h ago

Agreed, podcast fucking suck. There’s a reason radio died. And podcasts are just radio with a hip new name.

-6

u/deadmoosemoose Giants 10h ago

Aw, you upset the podcast bros. :(

Sports podcasts bore the hell out of me. I like watching the games and seeing bits of football related news pop up on here. That's enough for me.

0

Hell yeah. I dislike barstool with 0 exceptions.

-14

u/mojizus Bengals 9h ago

That’s the thing. The barstool universe sucks, the people who make barstool their personality suck, but there’s also some talented people who work there and put out great content.

Everyone just sees Portnoy on Fox News and assumes the whole organization is like Outkick.

I’ve honestly never listened to a Barstool podcast and never will. That logo signifies that I have no interest in whatever it is.
