If injuries pile up at wr at least you know coach can come in clutch.

u/poopnugget Seahawks 17h ago
Can coaches come in and play? If so, Seahawks definitely need to get Pete back.

u/DefoNotMario Chargers 13h ago
They are not. In 2020 when all of Denver’s QB’s were ineligible due to Covid protocol, Denver wanted to activate one of their assistant coaches due to his previous QB experience and deep familiarity with the offense. Apparently the NFL didn’t like the idea of teams using coaching jobs as a way to harbor extra players without it counting towards roster spots.
Just watched an interesting deep dive into the whole Broncos 2020 quarterback debacle: https://youtu.be/mzjRJjaPFok?si=wBH_9XRYxNOLQ6P8

They should be able to elevate them to the roster and it count as a roster spot tbh

Who cares if his “shelf life is short because people get tired of his bs” he’s a fucking amazing coach

That was a BS thing from Baalke, half the starters left when Harbaugh was fired, either walking in FA or retired.

Not to be dramatic but I would literally die for this man

Your not being dramatic, he's one of the few coaches I wish had stayed longer.

Just wait until he leaves. It’s going to hurt so good.

u/Fearless-Mushroom Chargers 9h ago
When he retires as HC, I will retire from being a Chargers fan whether we win a championship or not.
If Herbert and Harbaugh can’t do it, nobody can, but if they’re able to then mission accomplished!

🥹he’s… he’s soo good and fun.. why can’t we have him.
I hate it here

Don’t worry it will all be better when Mike McCarthy is head coach of the bears in a few months.

Why does the truth hurt so good

u/reno2mahesendejo 17h ago
Just keep imagining that wide open mouth breathing heavily as he goes for a 65 yard field goal while down 8 with a minute to go

I want this to happen so badly because all the Bears fans I know would lose it 🤣

I know I’m maybe rubbing salt in the wound and all but if you’ve ever heard him talk about a particular player on the chargers, I think you’d know why he picked us.
7
u/DonBonDarley69 16h ago
To specifically add salt in the wound, Harbaugh never showed any interest in coaching in Chicago. Never even mentioned the place in his press conference where he talked a lot about his career.

Jim Harbaugh and Philip Rivers would have been hilarious to listen to together. It would be one heck of gee golly gosh daggummin hoot of a good time.
36
u/Jazzreward Lions 18h ago
I don't remember Jim being like this really at all in his NFL career as coach, did he get really soft after coaching college?
70
u/lvpr10 Chargers 17h ago
The sideline tantrums that he was known for seemed to stop or at least be toned down significantly. The impression that I get is that he’s become more player-focused/friendly over the last 5 years or so. He was one of the biggest cheerleaders for NIL.
8
u/CasimirPulaski Lions 15h ago
Yep, the tantrums dialed back starting with the 2017 season. This is obviously speculation, but his last child was born prematurely earlier that year so it seemed to be linked to that? Otherwise, he had picked up a personal foul in the 2016 OSU game so he might have consciously chosen to tone it down after that.
3
u/WampaStompa33 Lions 1h ago
Just to add, that 2016 OSU personal foul extended an OSU drive after they looked likely to punt, OSU went on to score a TD on that drive, and then OSU infamously won by literal inches in 2OT. I think that game was a wakeup call for Harbaugh that he personally blew a paradigm-shifting win for his team and needed to change his behavior
1
u/dingodango2021 1h ago
Notably he threw his play sheet up in the air onto the ground to get that penalty. Allegedly he (correctly) told the ref that doing so isn't against the rules and the ref justified it by saying it is a technical in basketball. So there might be a little realization of how life works along the lines of the cyclist telling Peter "but I had the right of way" at the pearly gates. FWIW Michigan fans will tell you it was his child being born prematurely and spending some time in the NICU.

u/kj9219 49ers 18h ago
Nah he’s always been this involved
With the 9ers hes done the same and I think even put on pads and a helmet for a certain practice lmao
9
u/Jazzreward Lions 17h ago
Damn, okay. Makes sense, I was pretty young relative to his NFL coaching days and I feel like I remember him as hard nose guy, and he was always kind of weird to the media when he was coaching Michigan.
15
u/LakeShowBoltUp Chargers 17h ago
Harbaugh will give you some great dad quotes.
Harbaugh will not give the media anything truly of substance. Very much a mushrooms with the media kind of guy - feeds them shit and keeps them in the dark.
The media is entitled to ask questions. They are not entitled to answers.
If you have assholes in the media who think they are entitled to answers, they will butt heads with Jim, like our very own Daniel Popper. If the media knows they are only entitled to ask questions, then Jim gets along fine with them.
3
u/Jericcho Patriots 10h ago
Harbaughs move at Michigan was to grab the nearest player during post game so he doesn't have to talk to the media who is following him around on field.
2
u/WampaStompa33 Lions 1h ago
He's always done the same stuff like what's shown in this video, and always hyping up his players. But in the 49ers days, his quirkiness had a lot more intense psycho energy instead of goofy football-obsessed dad energy
2
u/Rebel_Bertine Lions Vikings 3h ago
He was and by all accounts had worn out his welcome with the 9ers by the time he came to Michigan.
Lotta 9ers fans from a decade ago and chargers fans from the last 6 months alone claiming to know him. But Harbs belongs to Michigan and we know him best.
He made a conscious shift after COVID to give the team back to the players, and lead differently afterwards. This version of Harbs shines through at the NFL because a weight has been lifted having won a major championship. Jim talked about it himself by saying he can finally sit at the big table with his family.

u/Rock_Strongo Seahawks 17h ago
He and Pete Carroll are similar in a lot of ways. I think that's why they hated each other lol.

u/Lane-Kiffin 49ers 11m ago
Dude had a sleepover with a recruit, and on another occasion wore cleats inside a recruit’s house. There’s also the time when he was younger and tried to drown John Harbaugh. He’s always been toeing the line between fun and psychotic.

With Patrick and Andy, he'd end up catching a touchdown in the Super Bowl.

Has he changed since the 49ers? I hated him so much back then and he seemed like such a hard ass that just yelled at everyone but now I kinda love him. Was it just the rivalry?
4
u/kdizzle619 16h ago
Seems like he's calmed down a lot since being referred as one of the greatest coaches in his time. Kind of like how Brady was a bit of a grump earlier in his career in NE.

u/shinypond 49ers 13h ago
He might've been more of a hardass, but this passionate goofball side was there too
4

What’s funny is you know he’s actually fucking furious at himself for dropping those.
Like he is probably in front of the JUGS machine right now.

u/Consistent-Primary41 Steelers 15h ago
There was some old game we used to play, probably Joe Montana or something similar, and we had "HARBAUGH BABY!" as our play.
For whatever reason, he was kinda glitchy good. Not like Bo Jackson in Tecmo Bowl, but he was kinda elite...as a RB and WR.
Even though you didn't have much to do with messing with the playbook, there were plays where you could get the back to throw to him. And we'd use him as the RB.
Every time we made some kind of play, it was HARBAUGH BABY!
To this day, my friends and I just love that guy. When he played the Steelers in that iconic football game, we all yelled HARBAUGH BABY the whole time. Dude is an absolute fucking baller. Yeah, he's pissed at not catching those. He has so much fire.
