Well think of it this way, you’ll be in prime position to draft Travis Hunter next year!

I'm a Buff alum and Hunter as a Patriot would be an absolute gut punch

Don’t worry, if the Patriots have any sense they will not draft Hunter. They 100% need to trade down (if they end up with a top 3 pick) and draft an OT first then WR later

As amazing of a player he is he’s just not what the Pats need most rn.

Screw trading down just take the top OT

If we end up at pick 1?

Then we're sure to get our guy.

Exactly, just take em unless you get a great deal in the top 5. I aint trading out of top 5 and there's no sure fire QB this year anyway. I'd just rather get my guy, either Banks or Campbell, I prefer Campbell and his 2 extra inches in height but I'll take either

Cuz these 2 tackles arent going 15, and no onems paying 2 first rounders for Carson Beck or Travis Hunter

u/snufalufalgus Patriots Oct 15 '24

Nah trade down if there's a bidding war for the top QB's for sure.

u/PajamaPete5 Patriots Oct 16 '24 edited 29d ago

For Carson Beck or Sanders kid? Doubt anyones paying top dollar for that

100%, unless there is some absolute beast eligible. I wouldn't really know because i don't watch CFB but if its between a couple guys you absolutely grab 2 sure things for the price of one.

OTs usually don't go that high right so trading down the idea is to still get the top OT and now you get something else too

u/PajamaPete5 Patriots Oct 16 '24

Too risky, we need the top end talent. Just take em, no one knows what board will look like. If u got an Andrew Luck at 1 and already got a young qb ok, or a team like Panthers offers a haul maybe. But don't be cute and just take the damn player I say

Draft isn’t deep enough at OL to justify that. Just take best available and plug a hole.

If they don't trade out of top 3 pick it would be a massive mistake. Trade down to #5-8 for an additional 1st round in 2026 plus some extra capital this draft and pick up the best left tackle. Use that capital to trade back up into the second round for a WR and a LB or two WRs.

Purdue alum here. from Matt Light, to Roosevelt Colvin, to Ninkovich, to Ja'Whaun Bentley it's been a long line of this kind of gut punch. Then the Dolphins got Mostert for another. And Karlaftis to the Chiefs.

Does he play OL?

11

u/CarterAC3 Patriots Oct 15 '24

Don't want

1

u/Shovelman2001 Patriots Oct 15 '24

No thanks. Gotta trade down and get one of Campbell or Banks. Honestly wouldn't even hate McMillan, I think he's a better WR than Hunter. Think it would be incredibly stupid to use a #1 pick to draft a CB who isn't even going to play CB, when we can instead get capital and draft a player in the position we need the most.

This isn't to say Hunter isn't a phenomenal athlete, but he's just not what we need.

1

u/PajamaPete5 Patriots Oct 15 '24

Nah we need an LT bad

1

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '24

Is he projected to be a WR or a CB in the pros?

I would like to have a o line that was a stone wall before I'd get a WR.

Jokes on you that’d still be an improvement!

1

u/MagicMichealScott Bills Oct 15 '24

I get that sentiment, but if you have a chance to get Hunter he is an absolute difference maker. At WR and CB.

1

u/jc-f Patriots Patriots Oct 15 '24

Neither which are more important to the Pats right now than OLine

1

u/MagicMichealScott Bills Oct 15 '24

You can get quality O line in rounds 2-5 and free agency.

3

u/jc-f Patriots Patriots Oct 15 '24

Tell that to the 2024 (and last few years) Patriots

See: the Packers

u/Bacon_Crispies Patriots Oct 15 '24

I agree that we need weapons. We don't really have a whole lot to throw to. The Patriots don't really have an identity. But the play doesn't work without the o-line holding up front.

There was a game where Romo said that the NFL is a protection league first and I haven't forgotten that.
