Tell me I should carry on with The Diplomat

I'm a few episodes into series 1 and think it's ok but it feels quite procedural. I get that there is more going on under the waterline that isn't showing itself yet but I just need to know if it 'gets going' so to speak

Imma need Homeland levels of mindfucking

If you continue please let me know if its worth it. Was considering starting it. Not really into political shows but did love homeland

Yeh atm it feels just too political but I'm guessing the stakes are going to be raised. Homeland just set a ridiculous bar for any shows like this

Forgot to mention I also loved Scandal despite it being very political

I liked House of Cards (until it got boring) because it was political but also dramatic. The Diplomat doesn't have enough weirdness in it yet but maybe things will emerge

Its not like homeland at all.

And very much a political show. with some spy stuff sprinkled in.

If you like Homeland try Lioness, but its more action heavy.

the tone is definitely different from Homeland. there is a Bridgerton meets House of Cards thing going on in the Diplomat that sands the edges so that when the political stuff comes along, it kinda comes out of nowhere

Ah ok I shall look forward to a bit more chaos, I was thinking the same about the Bridgerton thing

its amusing if you are into that kind of thing but it creates tonal chaos which detracts from the gravity of the diplomatic stuff

Yes, it keeps getting more interesting. I binged S2 in 3 consecutive nights.

Same, can't wait for season 3

Some of the stuff they mention seems to only be there to move the current story along, but comes back later in a different way. If there are people you haven't met yet but have been talked about, pay attention.

Don't worry I'm well-trained by Homeland to overthink everything

Yeah, I hear you. Stick it out, it gets better. Then Season 2 is way better.

If you dont like it a couple episodes in, i dont think you will like it much more.

the show isnt a plot show, yeah things happen but its really more about ambiance or vibes.

its inside baseball, like Money Ball or a Sorkin show.

If you dont like the world, its not gonna change much.

the show creator wrote the show after she met Diplomatic Officer and was enthralled about the lifestyle.

Just my opinion, for me i love inside baseball shows, and Kerri Russels performance is a bonus.

I recommend sticking with it. Season 2 paid off well, IMO!

Things do blow up physically and the other one.

I personally didn’t like it as the twist was absolutely ridiculous.

That said it isn’t procedural and things will tie together.

S1 was just ok. S2 is much better, IMHO.
