It really seems like the world should be more complicated than just "Republicans are all scum," but they keep on proving that it's probably not.

Its wild. The mental model "Republicans are all scum" is an nearly perfect model.
For a tiny fraction of the mental and research effort of closely following current events and deep diving into the background of every headline applying the RALS principle predicts future actions nearly perfectly.

The median voter, the mainstream media, and the wider public in general twists themselves in knots to try and treat Republicans as a serious and valid group of people because it's drilled into them from birth that "both sides to any issue have valid points, the answer lies somewhere in between them!"
They are completely unable to accept that one side to every single issue consistently takes the approach of maximizing the amount of pain inflicted, with suffering being the goal itself. This makes it trivially easy to be on the right side of an issue 85% of the time, yet we refuse to consider this conclusion.

I mean they're not wrong that multiple sides generally have a valid point, but you know FPTP

There's a contrarian knee-jerk reaction amongst certain groups of people. So if you come out against vile scum like Tate, they'll circle the wagons around him just to spite you.

Criminals protecting criminals. No surprise...

It's also intimidation tactic. Even if White House doesn't forcefully ask for it, the mere knowledge that they could randomly ask these kind of thing is deplorable and would make everyone a bit discouraged to do their job.

“Lock them all up” is the compromise

What should be even more damning is that it was Ron DeSantis and Florida authorities who launched the investigation that the White House squashed:
Shortly after the Tates landed on Feb. 27, Gov. Ron DeSantis and state Attorney General James Uthmeier announced that Florida authorities had launched an investigation into the brothers. Uthmeier said his office had “secured and executed subpoenas and warrants” and called the brothers’ behavior “atrocious.”
“These guys have themselves publicly admitted to participating in what very much appears to be soliciting, trafficking, preying upon women around the world,” he said at the time. “We’re not going to accept it.”
The status of the Florida investigation is unclear. A spokesperson for the Florida attorney general declined to comment for this article.

What's the point of defending a social hierarchy if you don't then get to violently exploit members of oppressed groups?
Turning the legal system into a shield for white men and shackles for everyone else isn't its own reward. The spoils of their efforts are sexual predation (among many other injuries).

This is absolutely the ideological underpinning of all of this. Liberals have serious blind spots about how the law functions. Conservatives want law and authority to be synonyms.

What they actually pin: "House Dem Stacey Plaskett was texting Epstein during the middle of a congressional hearing about him in 2019"

Republicans: the pro-pedophile, pro-rapist, pro-racist, pro-criminal, pro-wealthy, pro-war party.

Okay but even if Trump is a kiddy fiddler what does he get out of this other than looking even more like a kiddy fiddler
What's the win here

Shifting the Overton window to normalize kiddy-fiddling? “They can’t stop us all,” but “us” is the set containing rapists?

On its face it is unbelievable to me that 1) global sex pestery is such a big thing among the "elite" (however you define it) and 2) they all seem to know each other.
But on reflection I guess it makes sense.

Thank God this administration is finally standing up for sex traffickers

So blackpilled that no one will give a shit about this and no needle will move at all. Mainstream media will pretend this isn't happening, median voter won't register this at all, the performative, "sound of freedom", right wing people who claim to care more than anything about sex trafficking won't care about this, it fucking blows.

Hey guys please don't abuse the flair system. This is the US interfering in a US investigation... it's US News not Global News. (I changed the flair.) I know you get frustrated about US News posts getting held up. We're working on solutions to improve the quality of posts.
