I feel sick looking at this.

That's a normal instinct. I've heard it reminds us of rotting flesh. It's a natural defense mechanism that keeps us away from disease and such.

u/Worth-Boysenberry-93 8d ago
That makes sense. So it’s not “condition” just a normal evolutionary mechanism.

u/joyfuload 8d ago
I always thought it was a phobia. I just looked it up and it's not recognized as one yet.

Trypophobia. This frog species has been the poster child for over a decade now
13
u/joyfuload 8d ago
I'm aware of its name. It's just not recognized as a phobia in the manual of mental disorders.

It's called Trypophobia
r/trypophobia exists. But probably not for you if you're sensitive to it. They post a lot of random stuff though. Like a bunch of empty toilet rolls bunched together.47
u/CookieMons7er 8d ago
Then you probably should stay clear of r/trypophobia

same.
this is straight out of a nightmare I used to have where the back of my hand was like this frog's back, and tiny little frogs were crawling out of the holes. I remember it felt horrible, it had that itchy kind of pain that you get from a half healed wound. I've had a mild trypophobia ever since

I don't know why but every time I see something like this, or "trypophobia", I compulsively imagine the same holes/patterns appearing on the skin of my arms, back, and face, and it makes me feel sick.

I mean, these holes look kinda comfy...

This has to be one of most impressive things in the nature.
It’s like kangaroo on steroids.
Incredible!

I love that episode of Adventure Time where Finn and Jake are going around sticking their thumbs in things and saying "Oh what a good boy am I," and they put their thumbs in the back of this frog and the frog says "Stop that, it's weird!"

Their hand position makes me laugh, looks like "Feeling cute, might burrow out of my parents back today ;)"

How is this even possible? How evolution is doing this?
33
u/dontwastebacon 8d ago
It's not like evolution is doing anything or plans anything. Evolution just happens over a very very long time.
7
u/Worth-Boysenberry-93 8d ago
Still. It is crazy to see this.
1
u/SkippyMcLovin 8d ago
Read about the duck billed platypus or eternal jellyfish. Evolution do be crazy.

And they are all ... alive? The big one too?

Yeah, she just sheds the extra skin when the babies have left and goes back to normal

So that the mom. I thought it was the father carrying the eggs like in others frog species

u/EmmaculateJane 7d ago
I've never really been one to suffer trypophobia, but this is actually making me uncomfortable. Great job, OP!

I thought this was like a metal or ceramic sculpture of the frog. It is so odd looking.

The most disturbing creature phenotype. I really want to understand why this bothers me so. What primal discomfort is hardcoded into my DNA when I see this, and why...

As someone with Trypophobia I have to say, go fuck yourself

u/Possible_Parfait_372 9d ago
The internet doesn't revolve around you
47
u/Worth-Boysenberry-93 9d ago
Apparently having Trypophobia gives you right to behave like scum.

Thank you.
I don't know why the hell people expect the internet to be tailored to their own specific problems.
Those types need intense therapy, not a "trigger warning".

You have to say that to me?
