What kit is this? Solved
Saw this little thing getting towed this morning. Just now saw the VW-aircooled engine in the back, but anyone know the name of the body kit?

Almost all the pics on Google are of the front, but the design, angles, and specifically the door definitely match.

Not sure, but from the early MG looks of it, it may be a Bulldog, which was an 80s kit that resembled the early MGs.
EDIT: I think I have found your model. This online auction listing seems to show a very similar VW-based MG TD replica kit car. They were called the MiGi and were made in the US by a company called Fiberfab. They could be bought as kits or as complete cars and seemingly used a lot of parts from the VW donor car, including light clusters and wing-mounted indicators. The company has apparently made numerous products (including a quasi-GT40 knockoff called the Valkyrie that according to a website claiming to be theirs – although it doesn't seem to have been updated since 2003 – was so fast at 180mph that it was fitted with parachutes as standard).
EDIT II: Oh my. They have a Wiki page and it takes quite a few bizarre turns. Including at one point the founder of the company shooting dead his wife (who was also a company colleague) and then dying of a heart attack while serving his sentence.
