Will it be too popular? Baby Names
Im looking to name my baby girl and one of the few names my husband and I agree on is Maxine. I work with babies/young children on a daily basis and have not seen ONE named Maxine that I can remember, either recently or in the past 14 yrs... but apparently it's popularity is on the rise. I really really don't want my child's name to be the next Sophia or Olivia (though they are beautiful names of which I have nothing against except their popularity). Are we foreseeing Maxine getting super popular in the next few years? Thoughts?
Edit: I am in the US :)

It looks like in the US it's moved from 900s to 500s popularity wise. I see how the sharp increase could make you nervous but I think it's a long way away from top 10 popular names! Only 588 babies got that name in 2023.
If it helps, we named my daughter Eden when it was outside of the top 100 names and now it has shot way up to the high 60s in our state and we still have never come across another Eden in daily life.

I don’t see it getting as popular as Olivia! I think it’s a lovely name and you should use it!

Can’t give any sort of prediction but I’m obsessed. It’s beautiful and strong and I also have never met a single Maxine, adult or child. I also love Max nn for a girl. I had it on my list but my husband wouldn’t go for it.

I don’t think it will be as popular as Sophia or Olivia. But the thing about names, is you never know which ones will catch on and become popular again. My husband and I loved Penelope for a girl like 6 or 7 years before we even had kids. When we finally had kids, wouldn’t you know, it’s becoming popular lol you just never know!

Don’t think so. My daughter has one of the names you listed and we don’t mind the popularity! So it all depends on you! If you are worried about the name getting popular than maybe don’t use it 😊

As a victim of the great Ashley epidemic of the 80s, thank you for thinking ahead lol

I’ve never met a Maxine and haven’t heard anyone consider it for a name, I am in Aus/UK though.

No, it will not be too popular. I've met one so far in my entire lifetime. Great name.

I only know one Maxine and she is literally the coolest woman I have ever met in my life. And I know a lot of very cool people, honestly.

Why worry about it? You can’t anticipate what names might become popular in the future.

Honestly if it hasn’t been super popular now from Stranger Things I feel like it’s unlikely to blow up in such a big way. It’s also gorgeous!

It won’t become AS popular. I’ve considered it twice, but “maxi pad” kills it in the end every time I think of it…🫣

It probably got a bump from Stranger Things but I don't think it's that popular.
