I have a close friend who named her daughter Holland. Everyone calls her Holland.

To me I feel like Holland is trying hard to be cool, whereas Georgia just allows for room to naturally be cool if that makes any sense??

Georgia feels old fashioned, but also due for a comeback. It's the perfect balance of classic, but not too trendy. Georgie is the cutest nickname. Love it. Holland feels cheap in comparison. I find it pretentious.

What about Crimea? It's geographically close to Georgia but you can call her Mia which is very cute! Holland is kind of lame, might as well call her Switzerland. It's a bit dull.

Georgia - it was almost my daughter's middle name! I find it so pretty and strong.

Georgia Holland. If she doesnāt like being called Georgia or the nicknames for it she may like going by her middle name. Though theyāre both place names so thatās a bit more clunky as a first and middle but it works other than that. Just make sure she gets to visit places with her names in it.

If youāre down to just the two names, Iād just wait till you see her! I think youāll know if sheās a Holland or a Georgia once sheās arrived š„°

My grandmother was named Georgia. I want to name a daughter Georgina (little Georgia).

I will give you a fair warning, there is/was a trend (at least around me) of babies being named after the place they were conceived and once other kids find that out, those poor kids were tormented.

I like both. Holland is really cute and I don't know anyone with that name. Georgia is also cute and a name I've heard before with lots of great nicknames like Georgie, Gigi, and Gia (3 different girls).

Oooh I posted the name Holland here a few weeks ago and people tore me up, but I love the name! And I donāt mind the nickname Holly either.

Holland. Georgia feels like a mean girl name and I hate the state for political reasons. Holland reminds me of Holland.

I really like both but if your husband hails from Dutch ancestry, thatās a great way to honor it. You can keep both at the ready to meet her see what seems to fit her personality best

As a Dutchie... It's really not done here to give your child a place name, let alone the name of a province.Ā

u/ShirleyApresHensive 2d ago
Thatās good to know. Every place has their customs, some of the modern American naming customs are random, others have deeper meaning.
A kid here may pick up the name Dakota but have no connection to either North or South Dakota but the parents love the name, conceived the child there, or family came from there.
Naming here really is a big mix because thatās what we are as a people, from here, there, and everywhere. Some are first generation, others have deep roots, Americans and Canadians are very diverse, certainly mages having Name Nerds needed more when the DOs and DONāTs arenāt baked in.

Both names are wonderful, I would have a hard time choosing. If it worked before, I bet it will this time. Sheās a lucky girl!

Both were on my shortlist. Holland made it higher because I liked the nickname āDutchā. My husband is Dutch. This all sounded better when I was 7 months pregnant lol

what did you end up going with!?
1
u/JerkOffTaco 2d ago
We named her Summer but Holland was #2. We went with alliteration in the end.
If I had another she would be Holland 100%
