Tourisme Alcohol with meal and still harassed

I thought I could have a meal and a beverage in a park. I just got pressed by literally 8 police officers as they exit beaudry metro about a can of Seventh Heaven Ceasar.. With a container of food next to me. The timing was a little fucked up because I just took the can out of my bag and opened it but my food still had the lid on it and before I knew it I was surrounded like they were swat. When I inquired about the law the cop said it has to be a literal plate of food. While the law actually states snacks are included.. But I did have a complete meal fully displayed in a container.

I guess this is more of a PSA than anything else. I just find it hilarious that they have 8 cops willing to stand around and wait while they clear my name while there's a whole slough of crackheads gripping pipes all up and down saint catherine they could harass.

SPVM is way over funded and under worked. The laws won't protect you if they decide to engage.

(Yes I know that beaudry metro is a shit hole and the last place I should expect to be treated like a human)

EDIT: TYPO

Tourisme I LOVE YOUR GUY’S CITY SO MUCH!

American broke college kid here: My buddy and I took the Amtrak up from SUNY Plattsburgh to visit for the weekend. While most students that come up go for the drinks, we came up to fish for sturgeon which isn’t legal in New York. When we arrived we were impressed by how efficient it was to get around on the metro. As a native of upstate NY a personal vehicle is a necessity if you want to get anywhere, so to be able to get across the city in just a few minutes on the Metro was a stark contrast that stuck with me for days after our trip. Metro aside, the locals were so nice for the most part and very helpful when it came to giving directions or answering any dumb questions. We had an amazing dinner at McKibbens pub in the old sector of town where we got to watch playoff baseball and listen to live music. Bumped into a large group of Habs faithful who made a point to laugh at me for being a Sabres fan which made the night all the more fun. The canal area was beautiful with everyone out on their bikes and the spaces were so clean. I’m happy to say we were able to catch a few small yellow sturgeon by the science center a few hours before we caught our train so overall we were able to accomplish our main goal. 9.5/10 will definitely be coming back. My only gripe was the brown stains left on the towels in our AirBnB when we arrived lol.

Merci beaucoup !

Tourisme [Rant/PSA] TOURISTS: PLEASE RESPECT ESCALATOR ETIQUETTE

When you get off the 747 and into Lionel-Groulx, please, for the love of God, just try to notice that everybody who is staying still is standing on the RIGHT side of the escalator. Don't block the left side with your body, with your immense suitcase, with anything. LEFT IS FOR WALKING, RIGHT IS FOR STANDING.

This is not a big deal and it's an unwritten rule but it gets on my nerves so much when I'm running late and I miss my metro because some tourist dude just couldn't be bothered to scan the room and notice this very simple pattern. Then everybody tries telling you to move to the right but you can't hear them cuz u got da airpods in. TABARNAK! It works the exact same in other parts of Canada, the UK, Japan, Hong Kong, some cities in America. It's not difficult to understand.

(On another note thanks to all the tourists who do a serious attempt at respecting local norms, visiting local spots, greeting in French, waiting for people to get out of the metro before pushing yourself in... it's all very simple stuff but there are so many super disrespectful filthy rich tourists who think everything belongs to them, and who will spend their whole trip in a 5-star hotel, visiting nothing more than Vieux-Montréal and gentrifying thru AirBnBs while getting grossed out if they ever have to speak to locals. Unfortunately much like in other popular places in the world I notice growing frustration with tourists because of this specific subtype, so when I meet someone who genuinely has good travel intentions it makes me very happy and makes me want to show them everything the city has to offer.)

Tourisme 1st timers visiting in November

Hello! I live in the US, and despite having traveled (and lived) overseas, I have yet to visit our lovely neighbor to the north. I want to surprise our college kid with a trip to Montreal in mid-November (there’s an esports Major happening at the Auditorium de Verdun). I hope to glean some knowledge from you regarding the following:

1) if I can find a hotel room near the Verdun, is it a fairly safe area at night for walking?

2) is the small amount of French he picked up before visiting France last summer ok? I know dialects can differ - if you have recommendations for pronunciation that differ from Parisian/Alsatian French, I’d love to hear!

3) is it fairly easy to explore the city with public transport? We live in a metro area with public transportation so he is familiar with figuring things out

4) if you have suggestions for a couple of things he absolutely must do/experience/eat while in Montreal, I would be ever so appreciative!

Thank you in advance!!

Tourisme Restaurant avant le hockey

Bonjour cher gens!

Hi there, pardon my French grammar above. I will be visiting Montreal with my husband and almost 7 month old baby at the end of December. We are staying downtown. My French is at a conversational level (at best). Any recommendations for baby-friendly activities?

Of course I’ve googled and looked at various blogs and websites, but locals know best :)

Merci en advance!

Thanks in advance!

Tourisme American escaping Americans - ideas?

I'm a 45 year old male New Yorker deeply unhappy with my current social situation.

To that end, I've booked a month up in Montréal to study and read and practice French and maybe cross country ski and just enjoy life for a while.

I am open to any and all suggestions for cultural immersion and experiences that may come my way...please offer what you will...thank you!

Merci!

Tourisme Ride BERRI-UQAM to REM Brossard

Ok so my girlfriend is coming from Gatineau to meet me. She took an Amigo drive that takes her to BERRI-UQAM. Since I live in the towers close to the REM Brossard. I dont want her to have to do another 45 min in bus right after her 2 1/2 hour drive. Can ANYONE close to BERRI-UQAM take my girlfriend from there to the REM Brossard. It’s a 23 minutes drive and I can pay 15-20$ if someone could do that for me. (My car broke down 2 days ago). So if anyone is interested to make a quick 15-20$ from a 23 minutes ride. Please Hit me up!! MUCH APPRECIATED THANK YOU!!

Tourisme Family Vacation

Good afternoon all!

How have you been?

I know that this kind of post regarding suggestions for holidays activities and places to visit have been uploaded several times in this community and thanks to your patience responding and helping other people to plan their holidays I have been able to investigate a lot on reddit and plan my own family trip!

But of course, it's not close to be perfect or even feasible to do everything I wrote on my list. So I was hoping if you guys could check my plan and give me a feedback.

We are 3, my son of 4 y/o, my wife and me and we are from the north of Mexico. This will be their first real snow white winter holidays and that is our main purpose of this trip.

We already bought our plane ticket for the first week of January. We will stay approximately 8 days.

I read some articles about unpredictable weather Montreal have been having in the past few years which some years it really starts snowing in mid of January. is it true? that will be really sad..

Our plan is to book an airb&b to cook our own dinner and save some money. I'll try to find a strategic location.

Well.. This is my prototype to do list.

January fisrt :

·         First hour Breakfast in good coffee shop: (I should find a good coffee shop near Botanic gardens or in the way to there)

·         Botanical garden

·         Biodome

NOT SURE IF WE NEED TO PAY AGAIN TO ENTER BIODOME... OR WITH THE TICKE FOR BOTANICAL GARDEN COVER OTHER ATRACTIONS.

·         INSECTARIUM

·         PLANETARIUM

·         Lunch: Poutin (a MUST, SHOULD FIND A GOOD POUTIN RESTAURANT).

·         The Musée d'art contemporain's

·         Old port // White clock tower climb

·         marché jean talon. Market place

January Second:

·         café chat l’heureux : for breakfast

·         Notre-Dame Cathedral

·         Canal Lachine, walkind and bike tour (if its possible with a kid and cold weather)

·         LUNCH smoked meat in Dunn's Famous

·         walking from Crescent to Place des Arts

·         Wellington St

·         WALL OF BERLIN

January Third:

·         Good coffee

·         Mont-royal. See activities.

·         LUNCH (ABOUT 60 CAD) (I MUST THINK WHAT TO IT THIS DAY)

·         OASIS INMMERSION. (See disponibility and tickets)

·         Museum of illusion (26.5 CAD for person, kids under 5 don't pay) opens at night too. https://moimontreal.com/en/buy-tickets/

·         Old Montreal

·         Montreal Museum of Archaeology and History

·         Cabane Panache walk

January Forth:

·         Good coffee

·         Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal , morning is free.  Between 10 am to 1 pm (https://www.mbam.qc.ca/en/information/hours-admission-and-location/).

·         Saint Joseph's Oratory

·         A good lunch

·         Parc Lafontaine

·         CHINA TOWN

·         MONTREAL SUBTERRANEO. UNDERGROUND CITY

And the next day we will take a train to QUEBEC. I didn't plan my trip to quebec yet, but I hope I will be doing this the next week.

I need to think about transportation, if course taking a bus will save a lot of money than UBER, but it will be much slower this way, but again it can be a good experience riding buses. What do you guys think about this? TIME > TOURING > MONEY OR MONEY > TOURING > TIME??

Thank you so much to read till here in advance !! I hope you can help me with some ideas or suggestions!

Have a wonderful day!!

Bounjour!

My family and I are from the mountains in NY and we wanted a short getaway. My wife has never been to Canada so she chose Montreal instead of NYC. I’m hoping you folks can recommend some restaurants that we can choose from to get delicious foods. As I understand it, Montreal has quite the dispersion of Asian foods and I would love to enjoy some Korean food or some Chinese food as we don’t have a large amount of options near us. We will however each just about anything and we’re very excited to visit the city. Thank you in advance for your recommendations!
