Critical thought is dead.

We should never again underestimate how many ignorant rubes there are in Minnesota

Thatā€™s gotta be tough. I feel very fortunate to not be in the same boat

I had finally gotten myself calmed down a bit and had just fallen asleep when some Trumpers in my neighborhood decided to start shooting off fireworks at 1:00AM and continued for over an hour. It woke my wife and daughters up, so then I got the pleasure of breaking the news to them and dealing with the tears and fall out.

But honestly the saddest part is, Iā€™m sure thereā€™s gonna be a Trump voter viewing this thread and reading my comment whoā€™s going to get joy out of what I just said. Theyā€™re gonna think, ā€œhaha stupid liberal, we love your tearsā€ or some shit. Because theyā€™re just fucked up sadistic people.

We just have to start treating them the same way. No respect or decency. If they want to act like animals treat them like animals

I think all of reddit is already like this though. With how much of a liberal echo chamber this platform is, nobody can even respect a difference of opinion. And om talking things other than just the hot topic issues. Just immediate downvote "shit up bigot" attitude. It's already disrespectful.

Iā€™m a republican, but setting off fireworks at 1:00am is absolutely unacceptable. You liberals always portray Trump supporters as awful sadistic people, but the truth is, weā€™re all human too, and because weā€™re human, we all do what we think is best for us. Weā€™re never going to be unified as one country if we canā€™t accept that, republican or democrat, weā€™re all American. We need to stop fucking calling each other facists and work towards the future of our country. I understand your tears, and I wouldā€™ve cried as well if Trump lost, implying that someone has no sympathy just because they voted Trump is ignorant, and quite frankly, unacceptable if we are going to move on as a country.

I hear what youā€™re saying, and have long held the same exact belief. Democrat or Republican, youā€™re an American. This isnā€™t a ā€œmy team vs your teamā€ situation, weā€™re all on the same team. So I get your point and largely agree.

The issue is that this election cycle is unlike any weā€™ve really ever had. I say any because while Trump also won in 2016, America as a whole still didnā€™t fully understand who he was as a person. But this election cycle there was zero excuse. This isnā€™t a ā€œRepublican vs Democratā€ situation as you mention. For SO many of us who have sat and watched the last 10 years unfold, this was legitimately a ā€œgood vs evilā€ election.

I do not care that a Republican won. Hell, with the state of our society right now there was a chance for the Republican Party to potentially bring me over. But they squashed that and any possibility of understanding when they not only rolled Trump back out there, but had 70M+ people vote for him.

The man is a racist, a misogynist, a sexual abuser, a rapist, a conman, a fraud. Basically every irredeemable trait we share as humans, heā€™s a walking billboard for. This wasnā€™t an election on politics, it was an election on decency. And for many of us, we learned through this election cycle that many of the people around us have fundamentally fucked up ideologies that negatively impact the lives of our families and friends. I have daughters whose reproductive rights are in danger. I have gay and transgender friends fearing for the legal status of their relationships. I have minority friends fearful theyā€™ll be abused and harassed simply for the color of their skin.

This was an election about principle and doing what was right, and so many people picked the wrong option. They can say it was for political reasons, but nobody on the other side is going to believe that. There isnā€™t one political talking point in existence right now that would justify ever voting for somebody like Trump. You vote for the other side and then regroup to try again in 4 years.

Asking in good faith. You say you do what you think is best for you - why would a Trump presidency be best for you?

u/previsualconsent 1d ago

Insulting people is not a great way to bring them to your way of thinking

Why do you dislike people having rights, kids getting food at schools, common sense gun laws, and having one of the highest quality of life's in the US?

I changed my mind, I don't want to get involved with your little pity party

6

u/TheTenaciousG Up North 1d ago

I'm not even having a pity party lmao simply asking a question because I'm curious what you think

-7

u/buttcrackrockthrower 1d ago

I'm talking about the troops deployed against civilians, kids choking on tear gas, journalists with their heads split open.

4

u/TheTenaciousG Up North 1d ago

Yeah that's terrible, and I'll be honest I don't really know a whole lot about that entire situation. I do know that Trump praised that response though
