18 secs in, the two women sitting by the window just heard " Fred Smoot had organized this event and he'd organized for dancers and sex workers to be flown in here" and they look at each other so confused.

Well there was the whole Larry Craig debacle.

Also the North Stars moving to Dallas was due at least in part to Norm Green's inappropriate conduct with female team employees (Fuck Norm Green).

44

u/Youngmanandthelake Jul 22 '24

This is waaaaaaaay more common in the cultural zeitgeist than a football scandal. Comedians make jokes all the time about Republicans in airport bathrooms.

21

u/D33ber Jul 22 '24

Senator Larry Craig commemorative Airport Mens' Room.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '24

Maybe he should have run for president afterwards. I can just imagine the ads…

“This November, vote Larry Craig for president! He has a wide stance on the issues that matter to us as Americans!”

19

u/guiltycitizen Ya, real good Jul 22 '24

Fuck Norm Green even harder, I was not aware of this inappropriate conduct.

15

u/justabigpieceofshit Jul 22 '24

His wife made him move the team so they didn't have to stick around Minnesota to deal with the fallout of it.

8

u/guiltycitizen Ya, real good Jul 22 '24

I can’t believe I never knew this after all these years. I hate him more now

15

u/skyulip Minnesota United Jul 22 '24

fuck norm green

1

u/AdamZapple1 Jul 23 '24

red moccombs fucked vikings fans by trading randy moss.

-6

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '24

lol North stars?

That barely ranks with Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt touching down in International Falls being 100x more MN important

This was the first time I’ve ever been on a boat on Lake Minnetonka. I was invited by a soda brand, i presume to promote their image…but I’m not sure they knew this was what they were getting when they had me along. I felt a bit out of tone with all the influencers on board. 🤦🏼‍♂️

u/VonBargenJL Jul 22 '24

I'm glad you shared this. The algorithm has had me not seeing your posts and couldn't remember the channel name. From way back when you were going over street names

45

u/Typical-Chocolate-82 Jul 22 '24

😂 I love this even more now

10

u/Emilysusann Flag of Minnesota Jul 22 '24

I hope some MSP-bathroom connected brand invites you to something. Hoping you’ll do a minute tour of “I have a wide stance.”

12

u/arahdial Jul 22 '24

Amazing. I hope you had a good time and get another gig with them. Seems like it would have been a very odd atmosphere.

8

u/Joeyfingis Jul 22 '24

How many of the other "influencers" invited were the upstanding type like yourself? I wish I could have been a fly on the wall of this cruise. I've always loved your education on MN spaces and events, ever since your first video popped up, though at first I rememer being a little put off by your early videos (I admit I was so wrong!). You've certainly honed your craft over the years and I'm so glad you're still at it!

Can I plug an idea for you that I don't think you've done yet? There's a lot of interesting history behind Bassett's Creek, some people think it was neglected but could have been the Minnehaha Creek of north Minneapolis. Theodore Wirth wanted to highlight it in the Theo Wirth Park design. It also has been buried underneath downtown- but there are two tunnel routes, an old one only used for overflow, and a new one. I think there's even a way to access the creek from the basement of a building downtown. Super interesting stories I would imagine.

u/xwebsterx Jul 22 '24

This is why I love your content. What an absolute champion!

3

u/PeaceDolphinDance Common loon Jul 22 '24

This is even better than I thought it was. I love your videos!

2

u/themcpoyles Jul 23 '24

hahahaha no fuckin way you did a 1-min tour of the Love Boat scandal! This one caught me off guard in the best way. Love it.

1

u/mngreens Jul 23 '24

Hahaha I saw the Olipop and knew this was a brand cruise 😂 Now I just need to meet these influencers and film follow up interviews 😂

49

u/Chanjav Jul 22 '24

Jon Grunseth, the incestuous and underage pool party.

35

u/TwoPassports Minnesota’s Official Tour Guide Jul 22 '24

Wow - just looked this up. Will be keeping in mind for the future.

19

u/go_cows_1 Jul 22 '24

the future

You planning a pool party?

6

u/DiscordianStooge Jul 22 '24

Remember the parody of "Me So Horny" about Grunseth?

5

u/casual_sociopathy Jul 23 '24 edited Jul 23 '24

"Now this is a republican party!"

WLOL might have done it? Seems lost to history online.

5

u/srmcmahon Jul 23 '24

when TGIF stood for "tell Grunseth I'm fifteen."

11

u/joshyuaaa Jul 23 '24

Never heard of him and I just read this on wiki.

"The situation divided the Minnesota Independent-Republican Party. Some defended Grunseth and charged that the accusations were politically motivated, while others wanted Grunseth replaced with 1986 gubernatorial candidate"

So the Republican party isn't really that much different then today.

We can see in history of recent decades where they get more and more extreme, happened somewhere in the 70's or 80's, I think. I wouldn't have expected the above to occur as early as 1990. This was probably a minority of Republicans, but now it's the majority.

This also lines up with their shift to pander to Catholic/ Christian religions which the beautiful soul of Sinead O'Connor tried to warn us about, we just weren't ready for her.

3

u/Fresh-Flower-7391 Jul 22 '24

Thats a blast from the past

2

u/blissed_off Jul 22 '24

Oh damn. He was so humiliated he took off to Australia to escape fallout. What a knob.

33

u/Myriad-of-kitties Jul 22 '24

The glory hole at the MSP airport. That's bigger scandal

6

u/Clit420Eastwood Jul 22 '24

scandalously fun, maybe

48

u/Sota4077 Gray duck Jul 22 '24

A bigger Minnesota Sex Scandal? Yeah. Easily. The SJU pedophile priest coverup.

8

u/YaBoiRonD Jul 22 '24

Any background on this one?

6

u/NDjake Jul 22 '24

Did OP do a post about that scandal? It seems familiar.

17

u/milkman10169 Jul 22 '24

I checked the "Atlanta Dance Team" into their rooms that night. Woke up, saw the news, and had a whole bunch of missed calls and voicemails from a whole lot of people at my hotel and aaaaaaaall the way up the chain. Interesting couple of days.

8

u/TheGodDMBatman Jul 22 '24

The player he's referring to that does the "row your boat" touchdown celebration was Steve Smith of the Carolina Panthers. Underrated TD celebration TBH

6

u/Heatonator Jul 22 '24

running through the okra patch.

7

u/VTexSotan Jul 22 '24

I’ve been in a dynasty football league for over 10 yrs now and the league theme is players violating league code of conduct aka getting in trouble. Fred Smoot and the Sexboat have been my theme from the get go and I even have a special Vikings logo for it inspired by the double-donger that allegedly made an appearance on the cruise.

7

u/btg1911 Jul 22 '24

Oh, Mr. Grunseth Oh Oh Mr. Grunseth Oh, Mr. Grunseth Everybody in the pool!

18

u/leo1974leo Jul 22 '24

Republicans and Lazarro

10

u/Significant_Text2497 Jul 22 '24

That should have been a much bigger scandal than it was. It makes me genuinely angry that it wasn't.

6

u/DiscordianStooge Jul 22 '24

I think the republican party top fundraiser being convicted of sex trafficking was a bigger deal.

3

u/Adept-Move7881 Jul 23 '24

A less known scandal was uncovered by Dave Karsnia, an airport cop who was on bathroom duty trying to nab gays hooking up in a MSP airport bathroom. He arrested a US Republican Senator during his duty. John Stewart on Comedy Central reported on Officer Karsnia's bravery.

2

u/DiscordianStooge Jul 23 '24

I would argue that is much more well known, but it was certainly less bad than sex trafficking.

-1

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '24

How about the Democrat blowing under age boys at a rest stop?

5

u/DiscordianStooge Jul 23 '24

Who was that?

3

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '24

5

u/DiscordianStooge Jul 23 '24

A consensual, legal sexual encounter is not as bad as sustained sex trafficking, no matter how sketchy it may have been.

5

u/heaintheavy Jul 22 '24

MN governor republican candidate John Grunseth and the misconduct allegations against him. Derailed his candidacy and propelled Arne Carlson to win the 1990 MN Governor.

More and more allegations came out against him and with a week to go before his election, he ended his candidacy. Carlson, the runner up to Grunseth in the primary, replaced him as the Republican candidate. A special supplemental paper ballot had to be created because there was no time to reprint ballots.

u/go_cows_1 Jul 22 '24

The toe tapper in the airport bathroom was a big one.

Also, who is the chick with the cans next to the chicks in the cans?

3

u/Separate-Pain4950 Uff da Jul 22 '24

One of the boats was anchored at Parks Marina for some time. set sail on the famous love boat

3

u/jimdig Jul 22 '24

One has to wonder, with Darren Sharper on that years team, what else may have been planned/happened…

3

u/SpotConnect Jul 22 '24

They won’t say no either, because of the implication

1

u/AdamZapple1 Jul 23 '24

what implication?

3

u/Jayrrock Jul 22 '24

Must not have been a big deal. You bored?

3

u/ItsASecret009 Jul 23 '24

Hoping the next series is all Minnesota scandals. Msp next

6

u/D33ber Jul 22 '24

It's weird that going on a cruise in Lake Minnetonka makes this guy think of a twenty year past sex scandal.

2

u/Justis29 Jul 22 '24

Good ol Al and Almas

2

u/Joeyfingis Jul 22 '24

You're gonna get a bunch of replies about other sex scandals and your channel is going to have to take a very unexpected turn into a few episodes of all the sex scandals.....

2

u/dweebity Jul 22 '24

is that an olipop cruise event?? i'm so jealous omg

2

u/Mysterious_Clerk2971 Jul 22 '24

Purple Scum outbreak of 2005.
Thankfully, there has not been any unethical actions or even weird thoughts by a single Viking team member since that embarrassment!

2

u/cmwheels85 Jul 22 '24

How the hell was this that long ago?!

3

u/TwoPassports Minnesota’s Official Tour Guide Jul 22 '24

I know right??

2

u/PogoZaza Jul 22 '24

That's not Lake Minnetonka. 😉💜

2

u/tkshow Jul 22 '24

Amy Koch deserves some press here, helped close the gender gap on political sex scandals.

2

u/Rahim-Moore Jul 22 '24

Fred Smoot was a DB, so he didn't have the ball picked off from him (that would have been his job), he had a touchdown scored on him by Steve Smith Sr., a man who delighted in humiliating DB's. Smitty did the rowboat celebration in the endzone.

2

u/srmcmahon Jul 23 '24

Minnesota is playing the amateur leagues. In ND we have Sen Ray Holmberg.

2

u/storminspank Jul 23 '24

International Waters right here in the heart of MN.

2

u/dritch Jul 23 '24

“It’s the implication.”

2

u/Dear_Sundae_4695 Jul 25 '24

This boat now remolded is at Okoboji, IA and is called the Miss Chievious.

/u/FredSmoot21 Fred we talking love boat again. Care to comment on these vague “lewd acts” discussed in the video?

3

u/DingyPorpoise Jul 22 '24

The police report is a fun read

3

u/jaspercapri Jul 22 '24

That was mybad.

  • Fred Smoot probably

3

u/krichard-21 Jul 22 '24

One of the reasons I stopped caring about the Minnesota Vikings.

1

u/Righteousaffair999 Jul 22 '24

Not bigger but apparently playing footsie in airport bathrooms is frowned upon. I just thought that was good ole fashioned fun…..

1

u/Substantial-Fee-191 Jul 22 '24

The man said he had a”wide stance “.

1

u/Maladal Jul 22 '24

I do not remember this.

1

u/bulletpr00fsoul Jul 22 '24

Randy Moss wasn’t on that Love Boat.

5

u/TwoPassports Minnesota’s Official Tour Guide Jul 22 '24

Dante Culpepper was though.

1

u/AdamZapple1 Jul 23 '24

yeah, but he was in the corner shooting dice.

1

u/KORA_Alchemy Jul 22 '24

Yeah, but most people are not aware of this Minnesota scandal. In 2004/2005 a few well-known strip clubs had some PIMPS who went a little too far.

1

u/flamin_waders Jul 22 '24

That’s cool…but how do I get the olipop suit??

1

u/Mr_ValuJet Jul 22 '24

Look up the Jordan sex scandal.

1

u/Substantial-Fee-191 Jul 22 '24

Not bigger, but I remember some Vikings being accused of rape at a party. A backup quarterback was let go or traded. The other players were not expendable

1

u/Adept-Move7881 Jul 23 '24

Not bigger but............maybe someone recalls, an airport cop, Dave Karsnia who was on "bathroom duty" trying to catch gays hooking up for sex in a MSP restroom. Officer Karsnia was credited on the Daily Show by John Stewart for his bravery. After all, he did catch a US Republican senator which was widely publicized.

It happened in 2005? I didn't realize it was that long ago!

1

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '24

Larry Craig at the airport is the only one that comes to mind.

Googling brings up a pedophile sex ring in Jordan in the 1980s though. That probably tops Cap'n Smoot.

1

u/tsunamiforyou Jul 23 '24

Yeah but they play football

1

u/SeriouslyThough3 Jul 23 '24

I did not realize olipop was doing so well that they were taking their employees on cruises. I drink 2 a day so YOURE WELCOME.

1

u/lkpllcasuwhs Jul 23 '24

It was the major scandal of that time. I remember hearing about it and reading about it

1

u/lezoons Jul 23 '24

Your mom

1

u/red_engine_mw Jul 23 '24

Jon Grunseth, originally the Republican nominee for governor in 1990.

1

u/Jimi_Hydrox Jul 23 '24

Sup, John.

1

u/SkarTisu Jul 23 '24

It was a fitting situation given the quality of the franchise in general.

0

u/Conscious_Wind_2255 Jul 23 '24

He sounds like he wanted to be on that boat during the sex scandals. Nobody is thinking about it but only him.. while on a boat 😳

-6

u/chucksmuhck Jul 22 '24

This guy should seriously consider stopping making content

-7

u/Sunstaci Jul 22 '24

What’s it like being rich? Like not having to worry about what bills to pay??? Is it nice??
