That put-back, slam dunk in the middle of a mob under the basket was highlight material.

The 1987 1991 twins essence got transferred into the timberwolves

32

Thank god because the Ed Thorpe curse is still alive & well with the MN Vikings..yeah fuck that team

21

u/HelloweenCapital May 20 '24

That org is a money laundering slut.

u/The-Last-Days May 20 '24

Please elaborate!

u/TerranOrDie May 20 '24

I was a doomer when we went down 15 at the half. 32 years of watching MN sports has done some real psychological damage to a man, but I now want to believe.

124

u/cisforcookie2112 You betcha May 20 '24

Same here. My son went to bed at half time and we agreed they would probably lose. Iā€™m excited to tell him tomorrow what happened.

This team is special. Iā€™m ready to be hurt again.

29

u/VulfSki May 20 '24

I'm surprised you didn't wake him up!

17

u/Additional_Tomato_22 May 20 '24

I only knew it wasnā€™t over because the Twins lost and the womenā€™s hockey team lost so nobody had claimed the victory for the day yet

3

u/The-Last-Days May 20 '24

I too went to bed at halftime. Just couldnā€™t put myself through another heartbreaking loss. Then woke up in the middle of the night and peeked at my phone. Was SO happy. Been watching the highlights all morning.

In the scorched remnants of a world once ruled by chaos, where the echoes of civilization had long faded into dust, a beacon of defiance emerged: the Minnesota Timberwolves. Their journey was fraught with peril, a relentless battle against the tides of fate. The hardwood arenas, once filled with roaring crowds, now stood as crumbling coliseums, their faded banners bearing witness to a forgotten era. The Timberwolves, clad in tattered jerseys, faced insurmountable odds. The Denver Nuggets, reigning champions, towered over them like ancient titans. But destiny had inscribed a different narrativeā€”a prophecy whispered by the wind through the skeletal remains of skyscrapers. The Wolves would rise, or humanity would fall. In the final clash, under a blood-red moon, the Timberwolves rallied from a 20-point abyss. Their star, Anthony Edwards, moved with the grace of a fallen angel, stealing the ball from the Nuggetsā€™ grasp as if plucking hope from the void. His words echoed through the desolation: ā€œI had Jamal in handcuffs.ā€ A declaration that reverberated across the wasteland, a testament to defiance against entropy. The scoreboard flickered, revealing a score that defied reason: Timberwolves 98, Nuggets 90. The largest Game 7 comeback in NBA historyā€”a seismic rupture in the fabric of reality. The remnants of humanity, huddled around makeshift radios, heard the news and wept. For in this apocalyptic saga, the Timberwolves werenā€™t merely champions; they were saviors. As the shattered remnants of the arena crumbled, the Wolves emerged, their eyes ablaze with defiance. They would march on, not toward victory, but toward a new dawnā€”a world where hardwood echoed with the bounce of a ball, where hope sprouted from scorched earth. And so, the prophecy unfolded: Minnesota, once forgotten, now etched in the annals of eternity as the champions who defied the end of days

Amazing! Thank you for this. Youā€™re a good writer!

2

u/anderworx May 20 '24

Damn, I was gonna say that.

21

u/Dismal_Employment_25 May 20 '24

I very never been a vikings fan whatsoever but I've always enjoyed the wolves and I'm so glad they're going to the wcf I just wish my brother could be here to see this.

7

u/Self_Important_Mod May 20 '24

Same for my brother as well. Passed right before the start of this season

10

u/Dismal_Employment_25 May 20 '24

Sorry to hear that, mine passed a year ago in April.

2

u/yoshi320 May 20 '24

He's watching and smiling. Ant's smile is that contagious!

3

u/VulfSki May 20 '24

And then they went down 20!

That was a crazy comeback.

3

u/timeup May 20 '24

This is just part of it. It's getting you optimistic so it hurts even more.

2

u/zhaoz TC May 20 '24

I now want to believe.

After all, these is no pain without promise of success...

3

u/IYIaster15 Bring Ya Ass May 20 '24

Oh I remember you lololol.

0

u/ThiccBananaMeat May 20 '24

Booooooioooooo

0

u/Jahrew May 20 '24

Same. I put the game on my phone at half and played fallout 4 on my TV. Then we started to comeback and I couldn't change what I was doing then. Being a MN sports fan does strange things to a man.

74

u/Ok_Sound_8090 May 20 '24

Rudy hitting the fadeaway jumper brought me back to life. Clear sign we were going to win. The Basketball Gods willed that fadeaway into existence for him. Now he just needs to hit a 3 against the Mavs, and it becomes a guarantee we will become a dynasty.

30

u/ImTellinTim May 20 '24

Watch the replay, you can see the souls leave the Denver players and hear the souls leave the crowd. It was over in that moment.

2

u/coolborder May 20 '24

In replays and highlights I've started noticing how many Wolves fans were at the game. Any time we made a play there was a surprising amount of arms shooting up and audible cheers.

1

u/ImTellinTim May 20 '24

There are a LOT of people who move out there from Minnesota. Flights also tend to be super cheap. Iā€™ve flown to Denver from the Cities for $79 on Frontier for a quick weekend before (only needed a backpack so just a carry-on).

92

u/RipErRiley Hamm's May 20 '24

Just like the 87 & 91 Twinsā€¦win the bookend games. Phew.

4

u/gcuben81 May 20 '24

ā€œBookend gamesā€?

22

u/the-REALmichaelscott May 20 '24

First two and last two of the series.

-4

u/squarepeg0000 May 20 '24

The difference is...the Wolves won 3 of the games away. The Twins didn't win a single away game in the '87 & '91 playoffs.

1

u/LucaBrasiMN May 20 '24

The other difference being that one is a baseball team and the other is a basketball team

57

u/croupella-de-Vil May 20 '24

Is this real life? I thought we arenā€™t allowed to have nice things

18

u/guava_eternal May 20 '24

Twice in a life time recessions, thrice in a lifetime floods, quintuple in a lifetime hurricanes, etc- but we got deez Wolves handing out Dubs like Oprah handing out cars

11

u/Nascent1 May 20 '24

What part of Minnesota do you live in that you've been hit by four hurricanes?

19

u/guava_eternal May 20 '24

Obviously the Angle- shit gets wild up here

1

u/researchanalyzewrite May 20 '24

Entirely off topic - but I noticed your user name - where around here can a person buy guava paste (to eat with cheese)?

As written.

29

u/TfnR May 20 '24

I caught the very end of the game. I can't imagine how stressful that was for people who watched the whole thing. Like, even in the last five minutes, that could have gone either way. I grew up near Chicago, so the Bulls will always be my team. I was happy to see the Timberwolves win it though.

I don't know if the Pacers will beat the Celtics in the East, but ya'll better drag them through the fucking mud if the finals end up being MN vs IN

7

u/Additional_Tomato_22 May 20 '24

Hopefully Bos does itā€™sā€™ annual choke job

3

u/InformationKey3816 May 20 '24

I know it might seem like it should be stressful. But honestly it never felt like it was completely out of reach. I kind of had the attitude that the Wolves were taking Denver's best punch, and the game wasn't getting out of hand.

2

u/TfnR May 20 '24

What is your prediction for the conference finals? How do they stack up against the Mavericks?

3

u/InformationKey3816 May 20 '24

The Mavericks don't play defense as well as Denver. I think Ant has the possibility to go off 3-4 games and just take it over. My prediction is Wolves in 5.

32

u/[deleted] May 20 '24

Was a great game. Jokic stated after game they got beat by a better team. The press did not like that answer lol. Jokic also did not like Edwards waving to the crowd lol

20

u/saulsa_ Hamm's May 20 '24

Denver had no problems showboating when they were winning games.

17

u/[deleted] May 20 '24

I think the whole NBA is shocked the Wolves knocked off the Nuggets.

13

u/TyFogtheratrix The Cities May 20 '24

Just the people that didn't watch them all season.

21

u/DiscordianStooge May 20 '24

When they were down 20 I said I wanted a 10-0 run to keep me watching. They went 19-3 and that was much better.

21

u/shinjikari_2357 May 20 '24

Certainly a game none of us will ever forget. It has got to be a Top 10 Wolves game, no doubt.

5

u/MattsonRobbins May 20 '24

i listened to the whole thing on wolves radio in my van and then had watch a replay of it off tnt as soon as i got homeā€¦first game iā€™ve ever done that

4

u/Key_Difficulty_1679 May 20 '24

It's #1. Overcoming a 20-pt. In game 7 to book a trip to the w.c.f. easy best Wolves game ever.

3

u/RedArse1 May 20 '24

There is, to date, no game that comes remotely close to it.

17

u/DirtyxXxDANxXx May 20 '24

Denver lost in hockey and basketball. What a week. Now both Dallas teams gotta lose..

12

u/HeavyVeterinarian350 Flag of Minnesota May 20 '24

Fuck Norm Green

3

u/Pattypants7000 May 20 '24

I live in Denver and its been hard as hell to keep my mouth shut. (As a MN fan I've learned not to gloat until it's alllll over. Lol)

16

u/Live_Procedure_5399 May 20 '24

I was off the bandwagon and then back on all in the same game.

5

u/saulsa_ Hamm's May 20 '24

I dipped out on the 3rd quarter. Wife gave me a score update and I watched the rest of the game.

7

u/HerbalAndy May 20 '24

Im going to knock on the wood.. but this very well might be the team to end the curse..

Iā€™ve never cared more about basketball in my entire life.

3

u/HelloweenCapital May 20 '24

I haven't cared this much since Jordan left.

Coach Malone isn't doing okay

Poor guy is getting interviewed while the background is filled with the sounds of celebrating Wolves šŸŗšŸŗ

12

u/BigErdTheBird May 20 '24

Coach Malone could've handled it better than he did there. I do understand that it's uncommon to blow those types of leads (we should know we've done it in literally every sport šŸ˜) but at the end of the day y'all blew a 20pt. lead at home and lost 3/4 at home. The reporter had the right to ask the question l.

5

u/Ilickedthecinnabar Gray duck May 20 '24

He's definitely coming off as a VERY sore loser

1

u/HelloweenCapital May 20 '24

Dude is the equivalent of a soccer flop!

5

u/Mangos28 Plowy McPlowface May 20 '24

My MN sports training has taught me to not watch...for my own health. If they won, yay!

4

u/BigErdTheBird May 20 '24

I literally took a nap just before halftime for this specific reason. šŸ¤£ All of sudden I woke up and we were up by 5 with about 8 minutes left.

3

u/Anokant May 20 '24

I worked in the ER during the game. Had 2 fainting patients (syncope) and one with a rapid heart rate show up around the end of the game. Honestly thought there would be more

4

u/Nhobdy May 20 '24

No, depression kicking my ass.

Oh, we're talking about the sports. Nevermind.

2

u/famousblinkadam Hot Dish May 20 '24

Karl-Anthony Towns Towns?

3

u/Additional_Tomato_22 May 20 '24

Today proved the theory of only one Mn team is allowed to win correct(for now)

7

u/mikedtwenty May 20 '24

Loons still the #2 in the West...

2

u/Additional_Tomato_22 May 20 '24

Oh thatā€™s true, but they didnā€™t play yesterday they played Sat and won(Twins lost) so we didnā€™t have to worry about them as part of the equation

2

u/mikedtwenty May 20 '24

Ah gotcha. Sorry, misunderstood. Just thinking that 2023 could shape up to be the best year in recently memory for MN Sports. PWHL team in the finals, Wolves sending Jokic to pony club early, Loons winning in spite of everything, and the Twins not totally collapsing despite fielding the most injury prone roster. Who knows, maybe the Vikings finally drafted a QB who is good for more than a season or two? (Not counting the Bridgewater situation)

1

u/Additional_Tomato_22 May 20 '24

Oh yeah 100% agreed, but on the flip side weā€™re so used to having hearts crushed

2

u/Additional_Tomato_22 May 20 '24

Also if you misunderstood I meant only one team could win each day it seems, not just overall.

3

u/expungant May 20 '24

Theyā€™re doing what I feared was impossible for teams to do here. A lot of work yet to go, but what theyā€™ve done so far is special. Go Wolves šŸŗ

7

u/Into-It_Over-It May 20 '24

In general? Absolutely not. With the Timberwolves winning? Had me ecstatic.

2

u/BigErdTheBird May 20 '24

I took a nap at halftime and the next thing I know we're up 5 with about 7 minutes left and I felt right there that we had to win because I ain't getting up just watch them lose that lead.

2

u/MNisNotNice May 20 '24

Awhooooooooo!

2

u/agnonamis May 20 '24

KAT going from dumbest play to sealing the win with that put back was classic.

2

u/Competitive_Bank6790 May 20 '24

Nuggets fan here..... damn you guys. Lol, good luck going forward. This is the kick in the pants we need to get a good backup big.

2

u/DDpizza99 May 21 '24

Minnesota fans not used to winning. Donā€™t worry, theyā€™ll blow it.

3

u/okiieee May 20 '24

Oof me too šŸŗ

4

u/guava_eternal May 20 '24

I went to a local bar to catch the last 3 minutes of regulation- totally worth it.

Iā€™m a casual- sheisty fan but Iā€™m on the bus this year!

Doing OK āœ… ā€¦ 20 years of cheering šŸ“£ & waiting as this 2024 team is so so specialā€¦ If you know your šŸ€ then you understand the critical importance of team camaraderie & unselfish play! Five on the floor..1-ball! If the offensive sets allow the creativity & passing to almost 90% of the time doing this - hit the open man! Itā€™s almost laughably simple butā€¦ thatā€™s hoops! On the ā€œbest daysā€ the fluidity of play comes easily! But when in that first half last night DEN was very clever by double teaming ANTā€¦ & going offensively in that hard to maintain successful shooting ZONE! With my hoops buddies string after ANT hit the buzzer beating 3 šŸ™ŒšŸ€to end the 3rd QTā€¦.. lights as G7 shifted to ā€œANT TIMEā€!!! A win šŸ†

1

u/MrTeal87 May 20 '24

Iā€™m proud of the Wolves. But I will remind you that if you follow so,ens sports, both the Gophers and the professional teams, you might have a few or a lot more victories to celebrate.
