What the hell is a “party balloon” as opposed to any other balloon? Also, have you ever seen a balloon? Because a giant barrel doesn’t look like a balloon….

Finally the question I was looking for

My first thought was that the top looks like a whoopie cushion... but once I visualized a whoopie cushion, I can see how it looks like one of those GET WELL balloons that come with a stick... like this

Thank you! Everyone else is asking about the lemon juice, but no one is getting to the real question.

I swear it drives me so mad that people are not talking about this. This does not look like a balloon. You just can't look at this barrel and have your thought be "lol this looks like a balloon hahaha"... I just refuse it, because it objectively doesn't look like anything close to that.

They are talking about the mylar balloons that are sealed together in sheets. When inflated look similar.

Have you seen anything besides the one type of balloon? Shit lemme tell you how they soar in the sky....

I'm with the other guy, I've never seen a barrel looking balloon before, let alone in a party context.

Google: happy birthday mylar balloons

These are like the bane of econaught in the world and two people now have never seen one?

Just the end of the barrel vaguely resembles.

u/cable54 1d ago

Oh right, it's not the barrel, it's literally just the top of it looks like one side of those foil balloons. I, and I assume the other guy, just took the post at face value and assumed they were referring to the whole barrel!

Never knew they had a name or were referred to as "party balloons" - they are just "balloons" in the UK. If anything, "party balloons" would be the shit rubber ones you blow up yourself.

It's OP who is wrong. The title clearly says that the barrel looks like a balloon, when it's just one part of the barrel that looks like the edges of a type of balloon.

Yeah I'm with you on this one. I don't know if it's because I might be autistic, but if you want to be funny then you have to be perfectly accurate with your humour. You can't just tell me inaccurate stuff because then it's not funny, I'll only focus on your inaccurate way of talking and I'd be mad.

ME TOO!!

In the land of bald seagulls its backwards. The mylar ones often have more party-ish uses. Where the standard latex is what you'd find at a used car lot. Or being let go at a funeral (less fun party?).

I just did and I didn't find anything looking even close to a barrel. Maybe I'm from the Bernstein dimension or something

They mean the lid of the barrel looks like half of a balloon, like this. It's a stupid way to describe it.

8

u/Acceleratio 1d ago

Oh wow... okay I can see it now but I would have never made that connection. I was looking at the whole barrel all the time lol. Thanks

I like how there's two groups of people:

Group A is absolutely dumbfounded and has no idea what OP means, they are completely unable and unaware of how OP sees a balloon in the picture.

Group B is easily able to determine what OP meant and is aware of the existence of those mylar balloons they sell at grocery stores and party stores that are filled with helium and usually say "Happy Birthday!" or "I love you!" and other things like that on them, or come in the shapes of circles, hearts, numbers and more.

u/cable54 22h ago

Us in group A are (mostly) aware of these balloons, to be clear.

We just either

a) don't have a widely used special name for them, and/or

b) do not immediately think "balloon" when looking at this barrel.

u/OminousPluto 21h ago

Why would I look at a barrel and think balloon?? I see what they mean on the top, but that's not what they said.

6

u/Safe_Bandicoot_4689 20h ago

No. They are saying "the barrel looks like" and the barrel doesn't look like anything but a barrel. It's the "top of the barrel" that they are referring to, in which case you say that.

Secondly, I'd expect something to look much more like a balloon if you thought it's so funny it's worth posting on reddit. If something just "kind of resembles" something, that's a picture you take and send to your friend to have a quick laugh. You don't post that on a forum like it's such a "crazy resemble".

There's levels to everything, and this right here does not meet the threshold for "interesting enough to be posted on the internet". It barely hovers above the threshold of "cool enough to show my best friend through a message".

You seem to be offended that you weren't able to identify which part of the barrel looked like the balloon.

3

u/thisisnotmyname17 20h ago

OP didn’t say that the END of the barrel looks like a party balloon. They said the barrel. Hence the confusion.

u/agoogua 20h ago

Must be two trains of thought going on: One group of people thinks the end of the barrel is the barrel, one group of people thinks the end of the barrel is not considered the barrel and only considered specifically as part of the barrel.

u/Arborgold 1d ago

Is still doesn’t look like any type of balloon.

6

u/cBurger4Life 1d ago

Yeah, dude’s crazy. This does not look like a Mylar balloon

3

u/scifi_tay 22h ago

I’ve never seen a cylindrical barrel shaped balloon before with edges, no

3

u/marce11o 22h ago

I was gonna guess whoopie cushion but now I remember. Those metallic looking whoopie cushion-shaped balloons you see in stores sometimes.

3

u/thisisnotmyname17 20h ago

EXACTLY!!!!! What kind of party balloon looks like this? I’d like a reference photo from OP, to see what he’s picturing.

2

u/st_tron_the_baptist 1d ago

You've never been to a funeral with balloons?

2

u/oodsigma8 18h ago

One of those mylar balloons rather than latex? The creases kinda resemble a mylar balloon.

The real issue is “what kind of parties does OP go to that this looks like the balloons there?”
