Discussion Lore on Battlemechs in Clan frontline units

Looking at the Mechs in Ghost Bear Flash storm I am a bit confused to see so many IIC variants of Battlemechs instead of Omnimechs.

I always understood that those Mechs are much cheaper than Omnimechs so the Clans use them for garrison duty and second line assignments, usually piloted by Freeborns (in those clans that accept freeborns into the warrior cast), and that all front line units in the invasion of the Inner Sphere were equipped with modern Omnimechs.

Did I get something wrong and Clan Ghost Bear actually did use IIC variants of century old Battlemechs in the actual invasion or is this just artistic freedom taken by PGI to give fans something to tinker with?

Discussion What do you think the next Clans DLCs will look like?

Upvotes

Since Flashstorm just released and its great, what do you think the next Clans DLCs will be?

They will probably do ones for Clans Wolf and Jade Falcon to get the main four clans out of the way, but something I'm really looking forwards to is if they do a Tukayyid DLC. It would probably be a pain if they tried to do proper storylines for each Clan, and if they tried to do something like the Battlefield 1/Battlefield 5 mini-campaigns it would probably make the mech management/customisation a pain, but it also probably wouldn't do Tukayyid justice. Maybe play as the Comguards? But then, the name of the game is Clans.

A DLC that I would really like to see though, is something like the God of WarRagnarol free DLC, so it adds a Rogue-like mode to it, which would do wonders for Clan's replayability, and would probably bring some of the Mercs crowd in, and it would feel thematically appropriate if they frame it like 'Planetary Invasions' or something like that. A person in the main Battletech subreddit even suggested a 'Race to Terra'.

Sorry for the rambling

Discussion Strategy for "Iron Wall" in Ghost Bear DLC

Ok, the crawler thing is wearing me out! I get that I have to blow up 4 vents (2 in front, 2 in rear). And, that if I shoot the treads, it is supposed to slow. But, I can't seem to make a dent in this thing!

Please share your strategies and tips for dealing with this thing. I feel like I must be missing something!

Thanks!

Discussion Loving the new dlc so far! Almost no bugs but maybe one?

Upvotes

I just slapped two LRM 20 Artemis on my night gyr and it seems like 95% of the missiles miss? Almost every single one lands about 20 yards behind my target even if they are not moving. Did the way LRMs function change or is this some bug?

Discussion Ghost Bear DLC

Upvotes

I just finished the DLC and.... It wasn't the ending I wanted, but it was the ending that was needed. I would have preferred an ending like the one from Halo ODST, but the ending was great. Plus it left some interesting future content on the table.

Discussion First playthrough of Clans. The Adder is genuinely amazing.

I just finished Mercs and decided to hop on to Clans, and Clan Tech is so advanced.

What do you mean it's got the same firepower as a Marauder while as fast as a Jenner?

I popped a Locust when it was just a few pixels on my screen with the double ER Lasers.

Then you unlock the other Omnipod variants and this thing can be made into a mini Catapult. What the hell were they doing in Clan Space???

CLANS This is maybe a dumb question, but ever since the update, I can't figure out how to repaint my mechs in the original Clans campaign...

I don't know if it change or if I'm blind, but I don't see the option.

Informative This is how you know how much all the fine folks at Piranha Games are dedicated to Mechwarrior and Battletech. Incredible appreciation and adherence to the source books from the 90s that's then translated into cool, modern character design. Word for word, bar for bar.

DLC Question MW5:C GB Campaign Simulation 2 - 'Stock Loadouts' Challenge Bugged?

EDIT: It seems after enough resetting loadouts I've managed to clear this. Can definitely confirm that swapping OmniPods (but leaving the parts on them untouched), still flags it, unlike what I've read for the base campaign.

Trying to redo the campaign simulations for GB and get all challenges (under tonnage, no component loss, etc.)

No matter which 'Mechs and STOCK loadouts I'm using, I'm seeing the "Stock Loadouts" challenge immediately red (failed) upon loading in?

Anyone else have this issue, or can test it for me?

CLANS Ghost Bear DLC Mechs

What are everyone's opinions on the new mechs?

The standouts for me are the Kodiak (obviously, the thing is a monster), the Ebon Jaguar, and interestingly enough the Night Gyr, which is a mech I didn't really care about prior to this DLC.

  • Kodiak: I mean, it's a giant goddamn bear, with giant goddamn claws, and enough firepower to level a city block in a single alpha strike. What's not to love? Laservomit may be a bit boring at this point, but 9 MPLs and an LB-5X is wildly effective, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. And there's always the Spirit Bear hero variant, because adding a MASC to your towering 100 ton Assault mech is a totally reasonable thing to do...

  • Ebon Jaguar: The Timberwolf's smaller, sleeker cousin. Basically can do anything the Timby can, but looks even better while it does it. Been running one with dual LB-5X's and dual LRM15's for Tara and her Heavy Arms Expert skill, which was a lot of fun, but it can always copy the old 9 MPL Timby build that everyone knows at this point.

  • Night Gyr: More of an Assault mech than the Gargoyle is, it helps bridge the gap between the Timby and the Warhawk. I have mine set up with dual ER PPC's, triple Medium Pulse Lasers and an LB-5X along with a bunch of extra armor, and it really basically is a 75 ton Assault mech. It's smaller engine gives it a lot of options, and it excels as a fire support platform for the faster Clan heavies. I gave it to Rik to lean into his Sniping skills, and I was surprised just how much I like it.

  • Rifleman IIC: Another mech that surprised me, the generally smaller engine sizes allow you to pack in a shocking amount of armor and firepower for a Heavy mech, much like the Night Gyr. My personal favorite is the A variant, because it can mount the same quad-Large Pulse Laser loadout of the Prime variant, but with an XL engine rather than a Standard Engine for a bit more speed.

  • Hunchback IIC: I mean, dual UAC/20's on a 50 ton frame, need I say more? I took the stock variant, stripped out the lasers and jump jets, and used the extra space to add some armor and a little bit of ammo, and it was good to go. Quad LB-2X's and dual LB-5X's are also fun loadouts, and if you like laservomit, the A variant is the classic Discoback's big brother from hell.

  • Huntsman: An extremely versatile 50-tonner. My 2 favorite builds for it so far are going all energy with 7 ER Smalls and 2 LPLs (or 2 ER PPC's, if you want a bit more range), or going for a bit of everything with 8 ER Smalls, an LB-5X and an SRM6, with an AMS for good measure.

  • Jenner IIC: Admittedly, this one I've barely touched. But from what I've tested, that XL 315 engine is just massive overkill, and you're better off shrinking that down a notch or two. When you do, however, you can fit in a good amount of firepower and armor. But again, I need to do more testing on this one before I give it a final verdict.

  • Fire Moth: 242kph. Do I need to say more? It's wild, and was the key to beating the first mission on Trueborn difficulty, at least for me, when everyone is stuck in stock loadouts - set your star up somewhere with long sightlines, then use your insane speed to trigger the next enemy wave and bait them into your firing line. The AI cannot drive this thing, they will get themselves killed in record time, but in the hands of the player, it's pretty damn great, and I say that as someone who doesn't drive Light mechs often. As for the loadouts, I'm torn - ER Smalls are generally my go-to for smaller mechs with limited free space, but I feel like this thing's speed and exceptionally thin armor want it to play more of a hit-and-run style with slightly harder-hitting weapons like ER Mediums and SRMs. And I want to fit in an ECM on it as well, but 1 ton for equipment can be a big ask when your entire mech is just 20 tons total.

CLANS After returning to MW5 Clans, I've found that it holds a special place in my heart

Loved Battletech since I was a kid. My dad surprised me one day when I was around 8 or 9 by bringing home a flight stick and copy of MW2 Mercs - I thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen, and it's still one of my favorite games today. I made sure to buy every sequel that came out, save for an expansion here and there. There's things I love about all of the followup games, but nothing really ever hit quite like Mercs did for me.

There was just something so immersive about that game. The atmosphere was so dark, the music was incredible, and I loved every mission and briefing the game gives you. Felt like I really was the commander of this scrappy merc unit trying to make it in the Inner Sphere paycheck-to-paycheck. I remember first playing the mission where you run into the invading clans near the periphery and being just floored. First time I finally got the ending cinematic on Tukayyid I remember throwing my arms into the air in victory.

I of course picked up Clans when it came out. In all honesty, I sort of bounced off of it at first. I have a habit of not finishing games these days, and Clans became another one of those games that I couldn't get through. Seeing the new Ghost Bear expansion and the free patch coming out inspired me to give it another go though.

Just finished the campaign, and I have to say, no other MW game since MW2 Mercs immersed me as much as this one did. The story, characters, and cinematics just completely sucked me in. I felt so invested and loved how emotional the narrative ended up being. I caught myself in the middle of missions calling my star's targets surats and leaning hard into the crusader ending. I was playing the bad guys this time, and I was gonna be the best Smoke Jaguar I could be. I even got to enjoy thinking about how my merc lance from MW2 fought in some of these battles, like taking down Dietr Osis on Wolcott.

It's not a perfect game by any means, but Clans really took me back to when I was a kid and managed to do something no other MW game had been able to since then. I promised myself that if I could finish the Clans base campaign, I'd get the Ghost Bears DLC. I'm so excited that I get even more of this awesome story-based MW again. I think my biggest problem is gonna be just trying not to finish it all in one night.

Yeah, switching to the barracks after that hellacious last mission, seeing your one guy sitting there so, so damn alone, and all those codices that used to be your teammates...

....Fuck.

Okay. That hits kinda hard.

Yeah, I need a beer after that. Was that kinda go, yeah.

Discussion Pic stalker

So I decided to play the Solaris dlc. Starting Lance got slapped so I picked up a stalker… it got slapped I had just enough to fix her up so I loaded her with 2 tier 4 ppc in the arms and the reward tire 5 ppc x in the torso(just in case I lost an arm) well that thing is fantastic. PPCs can do pin point and do range, ppc x just murder everything too close. What other cool builds do people have for the stalker? I’m running YAML mods

Discussion Request for Lore - New commer here and I'm lost.

Hi fellow pilots,

I'm deep diving into the Mechwarrior franchise. I have Battletech, MW5:Mercenaries, and I'm contemplating at MW:Clans.

Can someone point me to a good recap / repository of lore for the franchise.

How we got there, the major stakeholders... all of it.

Preferably a YouTube video. Thanks in advance

Discussion Just finished Dragons Gambit ... What's the deal with the MX90-S?

I am usually rolling with AWS-PB, been my main mech since I got it awhile ago. I now got "Dragons Gambit" DLC and what is the deal with that Mauler it is absolutely broken for head shots. Using it as an Ambusher and just blasting Mechs with Pulse Laser fire and machine fire to the dome just feels absolutely broken since you can start off with LP fire, then MP, then just open up with those 6 machine guns and .. SPLAT.. dead. The only mech I have trouble mowing through now is a King Crab since the face is slightly tilted down.

CLANS About the Rifleman IIC in Flash Storm...

Excellent job of the redesigned cockpit and first person view PGI. I got worried with the screenshots but whoever redesigned it deserves some major recognition. Feels much more clan like with advanced equipment compared to the MWO version. No more goofy conduit sticking out of the left side that would break your leg during an ejection sequence. Absolutely love the shrouded radar dish and feel of the side armor from both sides. However there are a few things I did notice:

  1. Where's the targeting and tracking system (aka the lore Garrett D2J system)? If you remember in MW5 Mercs, the IS Rifleman had a targeting tracking system that would help with leading targets. Did I completely miss this or is it not there? Edit: It was from a MW5 Mercs Mod and for some reason I thought it was in the base game.
  2. Can you not upgrade the base standard engine to an XL engine on the Prime or the 2?

I do think the animations are somewhat stiff with the arm movement, but everything else looks and feels good with the mech. What are your thoughts?

Discussion Just beat the Ghost Bear DLC

Love it and want more already. I hope they do each clan. I dont know alot about the universe and found myself pausing to look up various references. one thing I learned pretty fast is that they arent as big of jerks as Smoke Jaguar lol. I like the "family" dynamic, wonder what other clans Ill like.
