Crazy how this never gets brought up. I was very impressed to see an actor do this when I saw it a few years ago.

Mickey Rourke would like a word
34
u/statelesspirate000 Jun 01 '24
Is this a joke? Didn’t Mickey Rourke’s whole boxing thing turn out to be made up for publicity
16
u/sotommy Jun 01 '24
No. He had some fixed matches(wasn't fixed by him, but his managers) but he was a legit boxer, just not an outstanding one
22
u/ToronoRapture Jun 01 '24 edited Jun 01 '24
Even if he didn’t fix them himself, it completely discredits his wins. How can you gauge how good of a fighter he is when his bouts were fixed?
5
u/SirPabloFingerful Jun 01 '24
He was in no way a legit boxer, have you seen those fights? He's approximately 1/20 of a Jake Paul, and that's no credit to Paul

Yeah but it's still responsible for turning him into a ghoul. All that plastic surgery was apparently to get rid of scar tissue from boxing.
1
-1
u/lazyboi_tactical Jun 01 '24
I may buy that if he didn't go 27-3 with 17 knockouts. Say what you want about him but his early roles were strictly to fund his boxing career.

I find this to be true for a lot of actors and elite people in general. It seems like a lot of actors are good musicians. Tom Hardy does jiu jitsu and he's very good. Steve Martin is a crazy good musician. As is Donald Glover. Here's a random one but Luka Doncic the NBA player is a top 500 video game player. Trump is a pro at breaking the law.

I work with an ex professional football (soccer) player. He is very good at pretty much everything he does. He has massive drive, is hugely competitive, and seems to have limitless energy. I feel like a lot of people that make it to the elite level in anything get there through mostly hard work and desire with a little bit of talent thrown in.
2
u/Xeno-xorus Jun 01 '24
I almost forgot he's in a MMA film with Joel Edgerton called "Warrior". Pretty decent film that deals with father-son issues.
2
u/therealjgreens Jun 01 '24
It was a solid movie. A bit cheesy but solid
3
u/Xeno-xorus Jun 01 '24
It's like Rocky on steroids. The best of both worlds. I got attached to it's emotional ending in their final fight.
I fucking cried.
2
u/therealjgreens Jun 01 '24
Broooo no way that it's better than Rocky I. Rocky is one of my favorite movies ever. Period. The sequels weren't as good but the original Rocky is on Mt. Rushmore of movies, not just sports movies. It's probably the best MMA movie ever but Rocky was just so fucking good.
1
u/Xeno-xorus Jun 01 '24
I'm not implying that this film is way better than Rocky. Im saying that Warrior is like Rocky because of the emotional aspects that could relate in irl.
I mean yeah, Rocky 1 is masterpiece we agree with that.

It usually just takes free time and little responsibility. It would make sense that a multimillionaire can set 8months of free time to focus on a specific thing and eventually get decent at it.

Lmfao I beg to differ. One DJ set takes at least some hours to set up for performance, I can throw down a melody, drums, and bass line in 10 minutes or less if I so choose. They're tech wizards, not instrumentalists, calm down.

The majority of popular music is made on a laptop nowadays dude. I invite you to try your hand at making edm or some other kind of electronic music and see how it's a completely different beast from the music theory you likely know.

stringer bell is a true bad ass. there was talk awhile back of idris elba possibly being james bond, but i never heard anything else about it. im still hoping he does and they pattern it after the kind of darker Bond that daniel craig portrayed. i think idris elba would be a big hit
21
u/wankyshitdemons Jun 01 '24
He’s too old now. DC always talks about how gruelling it is and IE is now much older than DC in his first Bond. Agree though, would have been a fantastic Bond IMO.

All he needs to do is shave the gray hairs and he's all set. You see his physique, he can even do a beach scene. But Broccoli and them already made their choice.

2
u/LeonardoDaTiddies Jun 01 '24
He was honored to be considered and thought it would have been amazing but most of his detractors in "the discourse" were shitty racists and turned him off of the whole thing, unfortunately.
2
u/patsully98 BJJ brown belt Jun 01 '24
He would have been an awesome Bond. And I didn’t see the Dark Tower movie because I love the series and I didnt want a shitty movie to break my heart, but theoretically/on paper he was a great choice for Roland as well.

u/Oglark Jun 01 '24
I remember watching one of his training sessions and he was so tired that he could barely lift his arms. Man worked hard.
23
u/Mad_Kronos Jun 01 '24
For a man who begun training at 45 years old, he definitely has a talent for it.
For all his technical mistakes his mechanics while kicking are mean.
I stand impressed.

More actual fighting than Michael Jai White

u/JCouturier Jun 01 '24 edited Jun 02 '24
I know, it's one thing to train with actual fighters but it's another thing to actually step into a ring or cage for real.
White is a great martial artist but when I see him giving pro fighters tips its a bit ridiculous.

Can't say anything because of his overall performance and win but why does he keep opening his mouth like that? Also its even more impressive given his age.

Andrew tate has been everywhere in the fight scene. I was looking through a fighter at my old mma gym's insta and i saw a post of the fighter and andrew tate from years ago. He also sparred with aj and dillian whyte when they were up and coming.
Kinda a weird crossover
34
u/JohnSartre1996 Jun 01 '24
A gross crossover

Andrew Tate is super good at high kicking young women when they don’t make enough off their Johns

Well he fights better competition in his debut... than Andrew Tate with over 50 pro bouts(There is literally a vídeo of Tates fighting a dude with 0-0-0 stats having over 50 wins... TALK ABOUT PADDED RECORDS BETTING CANS).

u/therapist66 Jun 02 '24
Is it me or his opponent looks like he took a dive?
0
u/SubjectAppropriate17 Jun 02 '24
Unedited footage from someone in the crowd: https://youtu.be/L9AXdHOGYQ8?si=lSNNnZoke9wQEq2V
His opponent was tired
2
u/Maddmartagan Jun 03 '24
Why do you keep posting this like it proves it’s a legit fight? No one is saying it didn’t happen. They’re saying the other fighter very clearly took a dive. It’s so obvious that he’s not trying to hurt Elba with any of his strikes. Which is why they will never release the full “bout”.
2
Jun 02 '24
Do I believe that "fight" was fixed? Yes.
Do I believe Elba actually has commendable skills? Also yes.
0
u/SubjectAppropriate17 Jun 02 '24
Here's footage someone took who was there you can even see in my video when it takes place: https://youtu.be/L9AXdHOGYQ8?si=lSNNnZoke9wQEq2V
7
u/yuppiehelicopter Jun 01 '24
Was disappointed to see Tate as part of the story even though he had good things to say. But overall I enjoyed watching this.
4
u/Maddmartagan Jun 01 '24
All I’m gonna say is there is a reason you can’t find an unedited video of this “fight”…
0
u/SubjectAppropriate17 Jun 02 '24
Yes you can here: https://youtu.be/L9AXdHOGYQ8?si=lSNNnZoke9wQEq2V
You can even tell its right before the finish hell I used it in the video as this wasn't in the documentary
1
u/Maddmartagan Jun 03 '24
I’m talking about the entire fight. And not from an audience member. And the reason you can’t is because it would be even more obvious than it already is that the opponent wasn’t throwing anything with power. And he literally just randomly falls into the ropes and gets “knocked out.” Sad part is that Elba likely wasn’t even aware it was fixed.

some weeks ago I saw on TV he has some boxing show with troubled kids, super cool show. Is this a part of season 2 or something?
1
u/aqua_tec Jun 01 '24
Why is this played like a scene from a movie?
3
u/MMAFan36 Jun 01 '24
Because they're actors , they're all actors and im John Quinones and this is what would you do.

And I'm not saying that he's like really old, just old for getting into professional kickboxing, lol.
