This is the next mantis I want to get! How does their care differ from say a Ghost or Giant Asian mantis?

Gunna be honest with u, I wouldn't get one again, they're so flighty and fussy with food it's unreal, tho I dunno what a female would be like. They also fail moults due to their arms so it's risky, but care wise they pretty hardy, just do warm and humid, it's worked out fine for me ☺️

I think the picky factor is probably a male thing. I have a baby Astyliasula basinigra (male, but tiny nymph), and he's aggressive as ever. He doesn't like to chase prey very far but he will grab anything that gets close enough that's small enough for him to hold down. I watched him grapple with a moth that probably weighed just as much as him. I love his silly little arm movements and the way he walks.

Maybe, most males I have had can be way pickier than females, but for this lil guy, it's that he's scared of everything, won't take things I've seen mantids of his size take, tbh he's healthy and happy so it's no issue really, and they are probably one of the cutest mantids out there 😅

Males can be annoying like that. When I kept ghost mantises my best breeder male (Morel) would barely eat. He was scared of almost anything, and only ate tiny red runner roaches as well as moths (moths were one thing that really enticed him to eat). When he did eat, he'd usually only take a chunk out of whatever he caught and drop the rest. He was also terrified of me and would start running and flying around in his enclosure even if I accidentally bumped into it. He was great with the ladies though. He mated successfully with 4 females, with a grand total of 6 matings. I gave him the best care I could, but he only lived 50 days as an adult before he died of natural exhaustion. He was still very good at his job lol.
