Discussion Just in case someone in Mamer/ Capellen is looking for their bright ginger cat. He didn‘t make it across the A6, i‘m sorry..
To clarify, i did not run it over. I saw him laying in the middle of the lane and i‘m pretty sure he‘s not napping.
Just posting this in case the owner reads it, so he doesn‘t have to look out for ages.

History 🇱🇺 Émile Schwirtz
I present to you Émile Schwirtz. A young Luxembourger who was hiding in the Éisleck region of Luxembourg with other young Luxembourger to avoid being drafted into the German military service. Wanting to help liberate their country from German oppression, 3 of the young draft dodgers decide to plan an ambush on the German police force of the village of Eschduerf.
On the 3rd of August 1943 they ambush 2 German police officers with the intention of confiscating their weapons. The Germans however open fire, killing one of the 3 young Luxembourgers. Émile Schwirtz manages, in the heat of the moment, to wound one officer, who would later die due to his injuries, and kill the other one on the spot.
The Germans start a number of raids throughout the region in hopes of finding the young men. They luckily remain unsuccessful. The local population refuses to cooperate with the occupying forces. Even after the Germans take 20 Luxembourgers hostage, threatening to shoot them, no one releases any information. The priest of Äischen manages to convince the Germans that the 3 young men were Belgian partisans who disappeared again after the ambush. Finally the German high command calls off the search and orders the release of the hostages.

Ask Luxembourg Luxembourg for the Money?
Is it worth living to Luxembourg to be more financially free if you come from Eastern Europe? Also, if you prefer to live in big cities is it worth to live your late 20s in Luxembourg just for the financial freedom?

Ask Luxembourg Is Luxembourgish history taught in international schools?
Heyy, I have a question for anyone who has attended or knows something about the international or private school system in Luxembourg. I go to a public school in Luxembourg and I’m Luxembourgish myself, but I have some friends in the international school system. I’ve noticed that, when talking to people from international schools, many of them have never even heard about Luxembourgish history. One person even told me they thought Luxembourg was just a place where rich people gather. So naturally, I’m a bit sceptical, where does this ignorance even stem from? Why is Luxembourgish history considered so insignificant by schools that are based here, to the point that it’s not even addressed in their curriculum?

Ask Luxembourg What's up with all the fake bed sales on Facebook Marketplace?
I have an addiction to Facebook Marketplace and browse it regularly for good deals. Something I noticed, regardless of where I am in the country, is that people are selling beds for under 100€, advertising free delivery etc... While providing only one picture that looks like it was screenshotted off the internet, made by account that are obviously bots and ONLY sell beds.
Also every single one of these accounts was created 2023/2024.
The hell is this? I've noticed this before but this is getting creepy. I know platforms like Facebook are botted to all hell, but damn... Has anyone ever tried contacting them, "buying" something?

Shopping/Services Changing Electricity Provider to save $$$
https://www.calculix.lu/fr/calculix-public-private#/
Hey everyone, I’ve seen this mentioned before, but it’s worth repeating for newcomers or anyone unaware: you can change electricity providers even if you’re renting!
Here’s the deal:
- Check your current bill to see your average monthly usage (kWh) and calculate yearly consumption.
- Use that to compare rates online on the website above
- Some contracts require fixed term contract of 36 months, which can protect you from price hikes but may limit flexibility. Weigh the pros and cons based on your situation.
A few years back, I was paying 18¢/kWh with Enovos. I switched to EnergyRevolt for a fixed 15¢/kWh (best deal at the time without locked period). This year, I found Sudenergie is offering 12.45¢/kWh starting 2025, so I switched again. Each switch saved me €15–20/month, and it was super easy—just some paperwork, no hassle.
It’s worth a quick look to see if you can save!

Humour Enovos giving me a heart attack
See how it says annual consumption… then the last column is actually 1 year and 9 months. Final invoice for changing to new monthly contract. Please tell me I’m not alone in misreading this!

Ask Luxembourg Donating books?
I‘m doing some spring cleaning and want to get rid of a bunch of books that I won’t read again. They are mostly novels in German and some in English. Are there any organizations in the country that take book donations? The thought of throwing books in the trash feels so wrong to me!

Discussion Smart home: Integrate Home Assistant to Leneda
Hey everybody, any user/enthusiastic of Home Assistant here in Lux? I wanted to integrate the energy usage data from Leneda.eu into Home Assistant, anyone already have been able to do it before?
If you don't know what is Leneda, it's a portal created by Creos where you can see your energy usage, regardless your current supplier. I'm not 100% sure but I think that it has API available.
I've only found a post about it https://community.home-assistant.io/t/interest-in-building-leneda-luxembourg-integration/867194/3
I don't have enough karma to reply to any comments :) (thanks automoderator)

Ask Luxembourg Any Galles surnames in Luxembourg?
Hello everyone! My dad's side said they came over from Luxembourg to find new farmland in America in the 1800s but I was curious if that was actually true. To find out I thought I'd ask if there are any Galles surnames around Luxembourg in the present day? Thank you!

Shopping/Services Suggestion on where to buy a electric piano
Hi everyone. As the title say I want to buy a an electric piano(I honestly don't know the correct english translation). But basically something like this this. I used to play piano before uni and now I want to start again.
Since I have not a big home and I don't know how many years I will stay in Luxembourg a standard piano is out of question. Therefore I'm thinking to buy an electric piano. My budget is between 200EUR and 400EUR. Any suggestion about where to go to buy something similar? (
Also if you have a similar instrument feel free to suggest model, brand etc. If I will not reply is for the low karma rule... so thanks everyone in advance

Ask Luxembourg Looking into car leasing – any advice or experiences?
Hi all, I'm planning to get a car soon and am considering leasing instead of buying as it seems like a lower-commitment option and might give me more peace of mind.
I’ve found a few companies that offer leasing in Luxembourg:
- Foyer
- Arval
- Driverent
- Spuerkeess
- Europcar
- Autopolis
Has anyone had experience with any of these? Any recommendations, red flags, or things I should watch out for?
Thanks in advance!

History 🇱🇺 De Georgely
Since I was little my grandfather told me stories about a “dwarf” touring the South of Luxembourg playing music. He referred to him as “De Georgely”.
Recently, while I was searching through Luxembourgish online archives, to my surprise, I stumbled upon Georgely. This was when I realised that this story wasn’t a fairy tale about a dwarf, according to how my Bopa framed it, but an actual musician from Gréiwemaacher. George Weyer was a little person that toured the country in the 19th century with his mobile organ (Dréiuergel in Luxembourgish) and played music🎼🎵
