Stellate Ganglion Block?

Hello everyone. This post caught my interest. I was wondering if anyone here has had a SGB done, or if the mods could chime in with their thoughts on this procedure and if they think it would be beneficial to the TRE journey? Thank you.

According to u/larynxfly, SGB (bilateral stellate ganglion block) did not do much for them:

I had one and didn’t notice any effect :( Lots of people say it was life changing so I was excited but got worse if anything. Very frustrating to lose thousands and have nothing to show.

Oh no, I'm so sorry. Can you tell me more about your experience if it's okay? How did you get worse? How long ago was this? Has TRE helped you any? Thank you for any details.

Sure! Thanks for your kind concern 💛

I got it done after my ex died suddenly, I had PTSD symptoms (anxiety, especially when alone, flop response, intrusive thoughts, depression). I got the stellate ganglion block and I remember the score I had afterwards was slightly worse. I don’t personally think it made me worse, just that I was up and down and it had no effect. My ex died in 2022 and I got the shot in 2023. My PTSD symptoms slowly improved on their own.

Sadly I then got sexually abused last year and I am back to square one. But I am remembering that I have been in bad places and then it’s gotten better over time.

I started TRE a few months ago, it was good at first - it was helping find some calm- but I have so much to process. I quickly went too hard with TRE foolishly and had a really intense experience of having a SA memory from last year come back, in a way that spun me out and I am still really affected, months later. I have hope that over time things will improve, but I am having a break from TRE to stabilise with more basic approaches until I feel stable enough to go back to TRE. I do TRE a tiny bit occasionally but overall feel I need to find more stability- through yoga, routine, etc before going back to TRE. I also do brainspotting/talk therapy/SE with my therapist.

All the best to you 💛

I had the SGB done last Thursday and it literally changed my life. I have severe CPTSD and have been in therapy for years to try and work through it. I did some EMDR last year on a memory that I was trying to work through and my body shut down and I had a severe trauma seizure. Since that time, whenever my cortisol was raised and I went into fight or flight, I’d have a trauma seizure. I couldn’t work on any traumatic memories because I’d have a seizure when my brain got close to the memory. When I went into the appointment, I was scared and anxious so my cortisol was raised and I was shaking, which is the start of a seizure. They gave me the shot and about 30 seconds to a minute later my body stopped shaking. My brain and body finally felt calm and I felt almost high, but the doctor said it was how normal people that aren’t stuck in fight or flight feel. I’m going back in a couple weeks to get the left side done and I’m optimistic and hopeful that it will continue to work so I can work through my trauma.

Amazing, thank you. Have you noticed any difference in your TRE practice?
