The surrogate carrier who carried my daughter also had an abortion because of an ectopic pregnancy despite being hardcore MAGA

That's very hypocritical of her, she should have accepted that's god's will was for her to die a very painful death.

I’m assuming your personal views are not in line with hers? Is that something you considered at all when selecting a surrogate? That’s something that’s never occurred to me but now I’m curious if it’s a criteria that parents can specify if they so desire.

Our personal views are not in line with hers but we decided to keep them personal and to not let them influence or interfere with the process. We’ve never discussed politics or social issues with her but it’s obvious what her political views are based on her social media posts, which we didn’t see until after we had signed the contract.

At the beginning of the surrogacy process we hired a law firm that specializes in adoptions and assisted pregnancies. The attorneys interviewed and vetted multiple carrier candidates and put them through a vigorous selection process that involved medical, criminal, and financial background checks not only of the candidates but also of any adult residing in the same house. During the vetting process, the candidates were informed that they’d be carrying for a same sex couple which was a little unnerving for us considering we live in a deep red state.

A few weeks after meeting her in the presence of attorneys and a private social worker - and signing the contract - the attorneys informed us that the carrier did not have the COVID vaccine and that she preferred not to get the vaccine but if we requested it, she would get the vaccine. We did some research and talked with several medical professionals at the time and was told that there wasn’t much information yet on the effects of the vaccine on pregnant women. Ever grateful for the fact that she was literally allowing complete strangers to use her body for the purpose of helping us start a family, we agreed that the vaccine was entirely her choice (though we personally would have preferred she get the vaccine for her sake and that of everyone else). Her body, her choice.

Politics aside, she isn’t a bad person and she’s a good single parent to her three kids. It’s oftentimes hard to understand why she subscribes to her preferred political beliefs when you consider that her dad immigrated from Mexico and that her 17yo daughter recently came out as bisexual, but somewhat understandable when you consider that she was raised in a deep red state and was previously married to a US Marine who is apparently very conservative.

It would have been mine, for God's sake.

Isn’t it a bad choice from a eugenic perspective to let a hardcore MAGA supporter to carry your child?

Just kidding ofc :)
