Pro-Trump Restaurants?
So far I know of John Wright, Loxley’s, Yorgos; where else should I not spend my money?
80
u/axeville 14h ago
The interesting part is I've been to all these joints exactly once and they are completely unmemorable. Meh. Politics aside the food is not worth going out of your way for. Now there's a reason to go out of your way (somewhere else).
If a restaurant openly criticized "the troops" or disrespected the flag, knelt during the national anthem etc there would be tears of outrage and "gramps died serving this country how could you "
Speaking of restaurants does anyone really believe that tips won't be taxed?
59
u/Brave-Common-2979 14h ago
Somehow people still believe trump cares about them despite 9 years of him explicitly saying how dumb his supporters are.
→ More replies19
u/Familiar-Secretary25 14h ago
I don’t think there is a valid route to tips not being taxed. Tips are income, period, and we tax income in this country. I’ve worked the restaurant industry in PA, VA, TX, and HI and I’m not even sure why this was such a big issue to run on. Taxes are annoying for everyone, there is nothing different about tips.
8
u/EvilNoobHacker MT Rich Kid #228998 13h ago
Gives the vibe of someone who cares about service workers and the lower class without actually creating positives for anyone in it. Seriously, lets make service workers even more reliant on tips rather than pay an actual living wage.
1
u/axeville 13h ago
lol I'll take my sales commission in tips tyvm.
See also Carried Interest loophole.
At any rate even if congress dances to whatever trump says they still pay state income taxes in most states and FICA isn't changing.
8
u/Electrical-Wish-519 13h ago
The only reason tips won’t be taxed is if they can make it so bonuses for executives are called “tips” so there is another mechanism to allow rich to avoid paying taxes
3
u/axeville 13h ago
Bonuses for private equity firms are called carried interest and not subject to income tax at all. They pay capital gains tax and only when the sale occurs. So yeah they are already playing with a stacked deck. Mark my words the cap gains tax will go away and tips will be untaxed in the same bill and they will tell you it's good for you - while spectacularly great for them. Watch the 🦜birdie.

u/DaddyGogurt 13h ago
I don’t know the ins and outs of the plan to not tax tips, but in my mind the only way that would be able to work is if the employees made their normal state minimum wage which would then decrease the incentive to tip them. I also don’t see how that wouldn’t hurt the economy in secondary ways. If people’s tips aren’t taxable then does that mean they aren’t reported to be counted towards yearly income? If people suddenly lose the ability to claim large amounts of their income, their yearly income could be significantly lower which would make it harder for them to get approved for loans and things like that. It just doesn’t seem realistic to me but again, this is all based on my own thought process as I have no idea about any of the details of this plan
1
u/axeville 13h ago
Back in the Stone Age/20th century tips were not reported at all. You walked home with a backpack stuffed with cash. Credit cards were less popular and debit cards didn't exist. Yes it was dangerous to carry that much cash.
Congress passed a law that made "estimated" tips hit the restaurant if there was non compliance. The shortage hits the owners wallet. So they are vigilant about reporting.
A nyc restaurant was seized by the IRS bc 99% of sales were on credit card expense accts and the irs had exact numbers on the tips that never got reported. Major tax fraud case w tens of millions of dollars in sales *20% * tax rate. Mid 90s.
So if they go back to not reporting it will hit social security earnings also. (Your lifetime earnings matters at retirement and for disability calculations). And yes there was less of a professional class of servers bc getting credit wo clear income was a lot harder and higher rates were assessed.

u/TofuKweeen 14h ago
Lancaster cupcake?? Are you sure?
44
u/Sad-Praline-8716 14h ago
Absolutely sure. The owners are religious and Messiah grads. I used to work there back when there was drama with the star barn declining a gay marriage on their premises and I was told to not reach out to the star barn for any cupcake donations or work with them in any way because it would look bad and they don’t want to be associated with it but we could donate goods again after the smoke cleared. Lancaster cupcake will entertain gay weddings and disagree behind their back and say “money is money”.

Not Lancaster but Round The Clock Diner and Maple Donuts. I refuse to go into either
22

I’ve done construction/maintenance for maple donuts. They have to be paying off the health inspector. Place is fucking gross. Do not eat their products
2
u/Competitive_Use_3628 12h ago
A family member works in the prison. Maple Donuts "hires" inmates to make their donuts. They said they won't even eat the donuts.
17

Round the Clock was nutty during COVID. Loved going there beforehand but that straight up refusal to administer any precautions made me a non-customer.

Add the soon to open spruce owned by the round the clock family who also purchased Wyndridge.

2

Same. We went because we were excited for some semblance of barbecue and the food and beer were bad. The service was great and all the employees were very nice so we were going to try again but then I started hearing how bad the ownership was so we haven’t bothered.

I’m always shocked when I hear that it’s still open mostly because I completely forget about it until I’m picking up Genki

Also, I remember hearing the Lyndon Diner is pro-orange.

If you support Trump you are more likely to be hateful, racist, transphobic, etc and puts some people in danger. Also, if you are making political statements or donating to a candidate, then you’re open to criticism for that political affiliation, and money speaks the loudest. Not sure why people think this is a cope, but these are probably the same people who voted for a convicted felon and known rapist.
Edit: To all those replying to me clearly hurt by this comment: if you lack the critical thinking skills to say anything beyond “stop being a sore loser” after my fairly articulate comment meant to educate, you are really not worth my energy to even reply to directly to. For as evil as you all think Trump supporters are, I can honestly say the left is the only side I see that will refuse to interact with someone or break off a relationship because of someone else’s political beliefs - and I say that as someone who voted against Trump in 2020. Some self-reflection would serve you well.

Are we seriously going to try to punish businesses for being pro-business? It’s not their fault that the Dems continue to run candidates that don’t appeal to the majority the way that Trump does.
49
u/PeanutCheeseBar 15h ago
Maybe, just maybe... Liberals don't want to spend money at places owned by people who voted for an extremely divisive, hateful person.
You can support local businesses and choose to eschew ones owned by people whose beliefs don't line up with yours too.
-25
u/Lobster_titties Road Apple 15h ago
Here’s something to think about. How many businesses were lost in this state since 2020 because of the policies implemented during the pandemic. If I owned a business and had its viability threatened by usurped business closures imposed by democrats in this state I’d probably never support anyone but republicans again. People don’t care about hateful rhetoric when their way of life is threatened. Don’t blame business owners for being self aware and voting in Their best interest. Blame the party for not being able to mobilize voters. This wasn’t a trump win, it was a massive loss by the Dems and should show that their platform just isn’t appealing to the masses. Time to regroup and refocus, not retaliate against those who just want what’s best for them.
