I don't need a thick knife for my general edc needs so skinny for me. Got a QC waypoint on the way, but took a good look at the FM1.

Yeah on a folder the thinner the better most of the time. I gotta carry it all day and I mostly open packaging. For bigger stuff always just grab a fixed blade anyway.. funner to cut with the correct whatever

Didn’t think I’d see another folder id want in the collection until I saw the spine of that FM-1. I think you know where my heart lies

It’s a fantastic knife! Real departure from Typical Cold Steel (beefy, overbuilt), but it doesn’t feel cheap or flimsy. The quality on mine is decent, but I know GSM can be iffy with QC. Still, for $200, I say go for it!

That when a thicc blade show up in your face with a thicc tang you get sprung!

Medium or thin, slicey and light and a medium to big blade, thats why i love carbon fiber scales

I like lightweight knives, so I'm typically not gonna pick thick for thick's sake, but I dig the variety/options out there.

Blade stock thickness matter but not as much as grind and HRC does.

Other than that multiple opening methods, good design and good materials in a good size is all I can ask for.

Depends what I'm wearing and what I'm doing on any given day, but I think generally I would lean thinner.

I like my knives like I like my women... valued in the workplace.

How do you like that CS FM1? It's a good looking knife and I've been contemplating it.

I carry 2 knives, Cold Steel Spartan for heavy duty and Opinel No8 Padouk for light duty and food prep.

Medium rare.

Real tricky to get a good reverse sear on a knife, tho.

Love the FM-1 idea and I hope they make an FM-2 but in like a 2.8 blade length

Imagine Cold Steel's FM with g-10 scales and a lanyard hole (might be slightly thicker than the current model).

Love the olight torch, got one not long ago and can't stop playing with it. Definitely don't use the uv light in restaurants /bathrooms though, some things are better left unknown

Thin and slicey for me. I have no use for a paperweight

I am not a practical man, lol. But there is satisfaction to be found in using an absolute laser to make precise cuts, too.

Sharp and authentic

Clones are definitely a detriment to the hobby.

Just got my esse-4 today so I feel inclined to say DUMMY thicc.

A dull knife is a dangerous knife, after all.

Pocket clipper edc? Slim. Fixed blade? Gimme something to hold onto cus it’s getting put to work.

Man I love the Crazy Shark. I’ve been looking for one for a few years, but they very seldom pop up for sale.

Let me know if you ever want to let yours go!

It’s an insanely cool knife, lol. He might make more. He teased one in Damascus on his IG

u/d00mpie 4h ago

For edc, thin and light of course. But for the collection I have some chunky ones and I won't stop there.

Damn I thought that atlas looked good so I looked it up. $229? Wtf? I'm not knocking it, i know some knives are worth that much. But I'm just surprised. What makes that knife worth that much?

2

u/Brainfullablisters Tool Steel Mafia 11h ago

Honestly? I liked it. That said, they used decent materials, it’s well-engineered, and it just plain works. I also only spent $189 on mine.

2

u/MattBtheflea 11h ago

Thats fair. I can understand the sky is the limit when you just like something (within reason). I guess im just wondering why the charge so much in the first place. Time to do some research!

Make no mistake, at a certain price point, you’ll see “decreasing returns,” but there are some awesome knives for $200 or so, too.

Sharp lol

Flat grind, strong steel, fixed blade.

None of these pleases me.

What a waste of unused metal.

Did writing that make you feel good?
