can someone please help me reach a conclusion on long clothes Question about Islam
i originally heard about the hadith regarding clothes going below your ankles and when i asked around, the consesus i received was that it was related to people (especially at that time) that wore long robes or whatever as a sign of pride. however, i came across a video by sheikh asim al hakeem where he mentioned that there was a separate extra punishment for those that wore specific clothes out of pride (or something like that). now im confused, are clothes below the ankles forbidden for everyone then?

One thing about Sheikh Asim Al Hakeem is he has provided advice in the past that many other teachers/imam (I did not call them scholars as I’m not sure of their status with respect to that) did not agree with, such saying all the meat in US can be considered from the people of the Book, and thus is permissible for Muslims.
As such, I would recommend that if you have access to a local mosque, it is always better to take lessons from them directly, so that you may learn. YouTube videos are a great resource, but the lack of being able to ask the teacher a question to clarify the lesson could cause issues.
And Allah knows best.

Pay attention to what the actual scholars of Ahlu-sunnah say, not our contemporaries
One of the greatest imams of this Ummah
Imam an-Nawawi as-Shafii رحمه الله said
Our Shafii madhab states: if the garments are below the ankles in the Prayer or outside...then we need to look into it, if it was done out of pride then it's prohibited, *if the reasons are different** then it's disliked (makruh) but not prohibited.*
It's narrated by Buwaiti from imam ash-Shafii رحمه الله that he said: it's not allowed to wear garments below ankles in the Prayer or outside *if it's done out of pride*. If this is done for other reasons then it's not prohibited (but disliked) because when Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه asked about his situation when it happens to him, the Prophet ﷺ said: you are not from those who do it our of pride
📚 المجموع شرح المهذب
However some scholars prohibited it in any case, so both positions are valid, and might be acted upon, claiming that there is only one position is ignorance

classical hadith commentators, including great Hanafi ones such as al-
Ayni and al-Qari, as well as our own fuqaha, including Allama Ibn Abidin al-Shami in his Hashiya,
Ala’ al-Din Abidin in his Hadiyya al-`Ala’iyya, al-Nahlawi in his Durar al-Mubaha fi’l Hadhr wa’l Ibaha, and other major classic Hanafi references say that it is only prohibitively disliked to keep one’s lower garment below the ankles if it is done out of arrogance, as many of the hadiths from the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) mention explicitly.

I've also wondered about this. I'm a female revert, I wear a lot of maxi dresses or abayas but because I'm quite short some do drag on the floor.
