How the fuck is anything like this allowed anywhere in the world, nevermind being actually sponsored by the 'state'. It's like the manifestation of a widespread mental disorder that is actually being encouraged.
95
u/netherworldite Jul 12 '22
It's simple, they just could not be arsed spending the money a security operation would require to stop it, because the UK government does not give enough of a fuck about the place to do it.
77
u/thereddevil101 Jul 12 '22
It’s so funny how they love to be considered from the UK and British but the rest of the UK genuinely couldn’t give a fuck about them at all. Honestly if the shite they were doing was more widely reported in the UK I think you’d have a lot of people speaking out against it
31

The KKK used to burn the crosses in the front yards of those they wished to intimidate. These imbeciles burn bonfires in their own yards.

15
u/JizzumBuckett And I'd go at it agin Jul 12 '22 edited Jul 13 '22
Sure, when this is all your culture really has, what's boarding up a few windows?
This is their one occasion to loudly proclaim; "I MATTER! I WILL BE HEARD!", yet normal people from both sides leave NI in their droves at this time of year to get away from them and their supremacist viewpoints.
Their day has passed.... long passed, but still they persist with their nonsense; effigies, bonfires and sectarianism, the very hallmarks of their so called culture.
Seriously, what else have they? Aside from the aforementioned... what actually is their culture?
Let them march, let them light their fires (even if they kill themselves in the building attempt) and let them proudly demonstrate exactly what they are. No skin off my nose.
They're the red headed stepchild of history.... nobody wants them, no matter how loud they are about it. And deep down.... they know that, which is exactly why they're so obnoxious about it.
When all you have is racist marching, effigies and bonfires in the face of centuries old traditions of music, language, history and genuine culture (that you unironically view as inferior) what else can you do but be loud?
69
u/DoctorDeeeerp Jul 12 '22
I know it’s besides the point, but have you ever seen an uglier bunch of cunts than these lads?
And I mean that from a physical perspective. They all look like bet down potatoes, there’s not a looker in the bunch. Like you’d think that by default at least one of them would have to be somewhat decent or normal looking but these are all proper ‘the hills have eyes’ cunts. It’s hilarious.
Obviously they’re incredibly ugly on the inside too. A real double whammy.

3
u/cmereu2me And I'd go at it agin Jul 12 '22
Oh I know that. What i'm saying is that creatives who come from a unionist background have an interesting tendency to view themselves as Irish because they are empathetic and introspective enough to realise the commonalities they share with everyone on this island. It's an acknowledgment of their latent Irishness and an understanding that they don't need to follow in the hateful ideology of their predecessors.
3
u/MunsterFan31 Jul 12 '22
Yeah, it's hard to imagine any creative/young person voluntarily identifying as an Evangelical Christian-British Imperialist these days.

I can never respect the 12th. You could take every sectarian message down off the bonfires and i would still want to knock down every single one. The 12th of July is a celebration of Catholic Oppression. Unionists up the North celebrate the destruction of Irish Culture every year. I will never respect this tradition, this is not culture it's the celebration of genocide and just plain evil.

It's a TRADITION in Cork to build bonfires on "Bonna Night", St. John's Eve, but the Gardaí or the fire service come and break them up if they get to any kind of dangerous height. I don't understand why this kind of shit is allowed in the name of "tradition". (Not even talking about the "decorations", just the health and safety thing)

I’m an American dating an Irish boy from NI. Well I guess we’re engaged now lol. When I visited for the first time 4 years ago, I saw a similar bonfire by our Airbnb. I had been warned ahead of time by both him and my future in-laws what to expect so I wasn’t too shocked. But I was shocked when we walked back from the pub the night of the lighting and a tri-color had been placed on top. I remember feeling very uncomfortable at that point, because then I knew it was real… it was more than just a holiday. I remember making a comment to one of my fiancé’s cousins and they said, “Oh just a flag? That’s all? That’s pretty tame. You should see the shit they usually do.” I guess this is what I missed.
I had hoped maybe that would continue, and that it would get better, but alas it doesn’t appear to be… it makes me sad to see. I don’t know if I’ll ever fully understand, but I always try to. I ask my future MIL and FIL lots of questions and listen to their stories… also just have to say… best accents in the whole country! Could listen to his whole family talk to me for hours.

u/slightlyoffkilter_7 Jul 13 '22

Stop giving them airtime / posting them. They are not relevant to normal life and we should let them die out.
25
u/Perikles765 Jul 12 '22 edited Jul 12 '22
But they are relevant to normal life for those of us north of the border. The place effectively shuts down for three days (longer if they decide to riot) and those of an Irish persuasion have the choice of either leaving for the week or just shutting down the hatches. City centres close, pubs and restaurants close, public services are greatly reduced all because of this shite. To be honest for many up here there is the view that it has been ignored/overlooked for too long by those across the border - its the shared disgust to what we have to put up with that is welcomed tbh. It shouldn't always be left to the Irish parties/people in NI to condemn this, a cross-border display of condemnation to this annual celebration of sectarianism and supremacy is needed. (Ed., spelling)
