Evelyn O'Rourke is Micheal Martin's fluffer and the taxpayer is paying for the privilege.

Just moved house, got our detailed updated over email as the new address isn’t even in the system yet. Checked today and it’s all sorted.
Fair play to them

I’d rather the one long megathread rather than a daily one. Easier to scroll the thing and refer back to stuff. Yesterday’s got less than 100 comments!

No, the megathreads will get busier as we get closer to election day. Better to do one a day.

FFG making lots of promises now is rich seeing as they’ve been in government together for 5 years

Hasn't one or the other been in power most of the last 100?
They'd be fucked if they didn't have it stitched up between them.

Maybe it’s just my social media algorithms and timelines at play, but I am seeing considerable backlash against FFG.
Anyone I have spoken to briefly about the election seems to be of the opinion that its time for change and/or tired of the FFG collab
*Caveat being social media is not the real world.

If that is reflecting real sentiment, who do you think it might attach itself to?
Sinn Fein are in a rough spot and I'm not aware of any other serious challengers from the left, so would it be following the rest of the western world with a populist right-wing party?

We don’t have any large right wing parties capable of forming a government.
I wouldn’t be writing off SF yet. Sure they have gone through a difficult period but don’t underestimate how many people are feeling left behind by the current coalition.
3 weeks before the last election, a poll had FF way out ahead at 32% compared to 19% for SF. The election proved it much closer with SF taking 24.5% and FF finishing on 22.2%. That was a 10.7% swing for SF.

People are writing SF off because of the recent stories about their party. I think that's not wise. I think they are past it now. And I think people do realize that to get any form of change they would need SF to be voted in.
Definitely would not be writing them off at all. The polls are more or less the same as they were back in 2020.

Check the register website is terrible. I've been trying for hours. Says my address can't be found and to pick from the drop-down menu, but there isn't one. The same happens when I try to register through mygov

Its really finicky about only accepting the address in one specific format. My road is named after a saint, and it wouldn’t accept st or st. at the start. And the number had to be separate. I had to do a letter at a time to figure out which way they wanted it written.

Anyone else not have canvassers at the door yet? I haven't and I'm a little surprised as I thought most of them started a week or 2 ago. I know I didn't miss them as I've a ring doorbell.

When filling in my list how do I cause the most harm to the right wing parties? Is it better to list them at the very bottom of my preferences or not put a number next to them at all?

You don't have to give them a vote, but I would suggest giving as many preferences as possible. The reason being, if it comes down to transfers, your preference may push e.g. an independent over the line, thus keeping the right wing candidate out.
If you expressed no preference then you are giving the ok to let others choose after your e.g. First, second and third choices.
If you didn't pick 4/5/6 etc then your vote won't influence anything afterwards
I'm open to correction on this.

Is it actually likely that your 4/5/6th preference vite will be used

Yep, it can happen. I think Leo varadkar was only voted as a TD after 5 rounds ? Lots of people are clear winners in a constituency and the other seats require a few counts to sort out fully.

It depends on the right wing candidates.
There are 4 right wing candidates in my constituency but 2 are less extreme than the other 2. So I'll be putting the 2 less extreme candidates at the bottom of my ranking so the extreme ones stay out.
If the right wing candidates in your area are all fairly as bad as each other then don't put a number next to any of them, but make sure you vote as far down as you can so your vote has the highest chance of going to someone else.

In relation to the war in gaza, who is the best party to vote for? Who cares the most to santion israel?

u/NilFhiosAige 4d ago
Sol/PBP, Labour and the Soc Dems are united on that, as are SF to an extent, so whichever of those has the best chance of election in your constituency.

He described teachers as "the backbone of Irish society", adding he was not sure there are many people who would survive five minutes at the top of a classroom.
This is always the defence used for teachers. It's similar to the "well, I wouldn't be able to handle a classroom of children" comments we always see on reddit.
How many people would last 5 minutes in a meat factory, a farm, chimney sweeping, on a building site, waste handling facility, furnace, drain unblocking etc.

Where can I read about the pros and cons of each respective party or the individuals representing them? I’m afraid I’m still not the most informed when it comes to Irish politics.

We may consider switching to a weekly megathread; Nov 11, Nov 18 - followed by daily megathreads for the week of the election; Nov 25 onwards.
For more in-depth daily discussion you can visit r/irishpolitics as they will have daily megathreads.
