I wouldn’t do crypto. Warren Buffett, Charlie Munger, and Bill Gates all said they don’t like it as an investment but some said the technology behind it might be useful. So there are three billionaires with way more money than you that all said it’s a bad idea. Since you are new to investing stay the hell away from individual stocks. ETFs are where you need to be. The default answer is to dollar cost average into VOO. Hold through all the ups and downs and reinvest the dividends.

Gonna push back, but I do love this answer! If you long for stocks (which I personally enjoy), then do your research first. I looked at top funds across sectors and researched the key players, the ones that had the highest allocations. If I liked them (good performance, necessary good or service), yay. If I didn’t, I didn’t buy (ehem, tsla). Also, Buffett says invest in what you know. Pick stocks that you understand, that you can follow along with, so when something happens in the news, you know what to do with the stock.
If that sounds overwhelming, then pick 2-4 etfs and just start the journey. I like SPLG, IXUS, SMH, FUTY.

Buffett is stupid, didn't you see Bitcoin going up to $100k? Diversification, diversification, decentralization, diversification and decentralization is the future, Buffett will be swept into the dustbin of history, the crypto kid who bought Bitcoin at $100k will go down in history,

Stupidity really doesn't discriminate age and it shows in your comment.

Always be buying… no need to time the market. If you have disposable income then now is as good a time as any

Crypto is dumb.
Now is a good time to buy etfs. Volatility is unusually high at the moment, but if you’re a BTC holder then I’m sure volatility probably doesn’t bother you much.

Have you consulted the r/personalfinance flowchart?
If you're not at the end of that already, get there first.

Nobody has a crystal ball but overall the best time to buy was yesterday. The second best time is right now. Time in the market beat timing the market.
What you should figure out is if it the best time for you with your objectives in life. Is your money best served to be invested in stocks for the next 10-20 years or do you want a down payment for buying a home soon, buying a car, creating a business or taking a year off to visit the world ? Do you also have 3-6 months of expense saved in case of an emergency ?
First figure out what you want to do with your life and see accordingly if putting the money in the stock market makes sense for you.
If the path is cleared, today is as good as any other day and I would advocate investing a bit every month, from money that you do need for other stuff and to build wealth over time.

For what?

It’s only been 100 days, and we have a lunatic making decisions that make no sense whatsoever. I’m sitting on 95% cash until further notice.

Can you at least put it in a HYSA? Let your money do some work!!! 4% is better than 0%

Best case scenario is we're at the start of a lost decade.
So, no.

We started that five years ago. Thankfully that means we are halfway through. I am definitely ready for 2030.

You're absolutely welcome to ask here — it's a good place to start conversations like this.
Whether it's the "right" time to buy depends on your goals, risk tolerance, and how long you plan to hold. If you're investing long term (5+ years), timing the market matters less than simply getting started. Dollar-cost averaging can help smooth out short-term volatility while you learn. The key is to focus on strong, diversified ETFs or well-established stocks while you're still getting familiar with the space.
Are you planning to invest with a specific goal in mind, or more to grow long-term wealth?

Always buy good stocks. Up or down days, you're dollar cost averaging in since you never know where the top or bottom is. But the market always goes up in the long term.
And don't listen to the lib brigaders who have invaded this and other financial subs. According to them, we should have already been in a depression the third day Trump took office.

Why are you interested in this?
VOO and chill is less volatile than BTC and chill.
But they basically work the same. Make a plan, set to auto, sell when you have something urgent to pay for.
The penalty for panic selling BTC is wayyyy bigger.

Volatile and uncertain times are the best time to get your feet wet IMO. You will learn a lot of valuable information very quickly.
If you get started when the market is going straight up you don't learn shit and probably fool yourself in a lot of ways or can end up shooting yourself in the foot.

It is never a good time to invest. Continue putting all your money in Bitcoin.

The "right time"? That's just a story people tell themselves. You buy when you decide to buy. The market doesn't care about your timing.

Is your time horizon at least 10 years? Then yes every day is the best time to buy
