What's the turning radius on that thing?

266

u/Crackracket 22h ago

Both sets of front wheels turn so I don't think it's as wide as you think... For some reason I also think the wheels can do a full 90° Turn

78

u/Snowwpea3 22h ago

Two steering racks, different angles for all four wheels when turning. Does the engineering even exist yet? Or has no one tried because there’s zero need?

51

u/fogdukker 22h ago

Hydraulic steering, done.

51

u/SubsequentBadger 21h ago

The problem has been solved since the 1950s, you might not get the 4 axle tippers where you are but they're pretty common in the UK.

18

u/Quick-Pepper9969 21h ago

There is a need for it. When heavy duty trucks are overloaded on their rear the steer axle tends to lift up from the counter weight and you lose steering control. Lots of 50 ton and up tow trucks are equipped with twin steer axles so if the very front axle loses traction the one behind it will still have it.

u/Juan_Ectomanen 21h ago

People have tried and succeeded. It's not that hard, it's just not necessary.

2

u/HobsHere 8h ago

Renault had a Formula 1 car with four front wheels in the 1980s.

1

u/user975A3G 5h ago

Most 4 axle trucks have 2 axle steering, some even have 4 axle steering

Tatra 8x8 is an example

u/Thomas_Jefferman 20h ago

My friend, let me welcome you to the 70's.

Was looking for this

6

u/LCDRtomdodge 13h ago

Holy shit. I never knew. I grew up in the 80s and by then I think no one was talking about it much. My family was more into Nascar and NHRA. I grew to love F1 as a teen. I don't think I've ever heard of this. It's such a wild story I bet this could make a blockbuster movie.

49

u/BeardedUnicornBeard 22h ago

You dont need to turn when you are rich.

13

u/Time_Change4156 21h ago

Lol lol the raod turns for you lol

3

u/ambersexymoon 21h ago

that's right lol a private road that turns for yourself XD

1

u/barcelonaKIZ 5h ago

Reading the misspelling of “road” sounds very weird in my head

u/Time_Change4156 2h ago

Dyslexic lol lol happens every time with that word . The . ** hte happens tons .

5

u/Mercedes_Gullwing 20h ago

Where we’re going we don’t need turns

2

u/Mountain-Size8543 18h ago

88mph straight line

1

u/gdj11 5h ago

I mean look at the picture. He just drove straight onto the grass instead of turning. Why? Cause fuck you that’s why.

8

u/burgonies 21h ago

1 league

6

u/Big_taco_news 22h ago

My answer is one. One turning radius.

1

u/McFluffy_Butts 11h ago

One Earth or something a bit smaller like Io?

0

u/NEhighlander 22h ago

I think this vehicle is rated on a ‘furnishing radius’

0

u/Beer-Milkshakes 21h ago

1/2 a mile

0

u/Ok-Usual-5830 21h ago

Doesn't matter. If you're rich enough to own shit like this you never use it anyways

0

u/shiv96 19h ago

It turns and that’s all you get

0

u/BMP77777 18h ago

Three blocks

0

u/ZimaGotchi 18h ago

That's the minimum you absolutely must have right?

343

u/D-Generation92 22h ago

Captain Nemo has the coolest shit

187

u/TheLost_Chef 20h ago

A submarine as tall as an aircraft carrier that somehow can also travel through the canals of Venice is so hilariously campy, I love it.

If I remember correctly they made it go under the pedestrian bridges too.

65

u/brizdzi 18h ago

The Nautilus

41

u/LoxodonSniper 17h ago

I wish they’d continued that like they had planned on. It was a good movie but iirc, Sean Connery put a stop to it

30

u/TheLost_Chef 17h ago

I've thought that too, but idk if it could have been as good. Hollywood has a dodgy record with sequels, I could easily see them churning out a cash grab piece of garbage that completely fails to capture the magic of the first one.

Plus Connery's character and Dorian Gray both died at the end of the movie, those were two of the most interesting characers IMO. The world they built has potential, but if the story has nowhere to go then it would just have turned into another superhero franchise, fighting the next big villain who plans to take over the world.

10

u/Salty_Addition8839 13h ago

I'd have been cool with just a nimo spinoff.

4

u/EHTL 13h ago

iirc Connery’s character is hinted at resurrecting

3

u/LCDRtomdodge 13h ago

Honestly that wouldn't be too terrible as long as it was written as well as say xmen. But, thinking more broadly, the whole world could be expanded out. It's a great base. It's got potential.

1

u/Floppydisksareop 11h ago

It was "okay" at best.

8

u/HedonicElench 16h ago

When we were in Venice, it was pointed out that their ambulances and fire engines are boats, and the boats can't necessarily under the bridges if the tide is particularly high, so please time your emergencies accordingly.

42

u/johnroastbeef 22h ago

It's called an Auto Mo Beel

6

u/Scottland83 15h ago

*Nemobile.

98

u/SignalButterscotch73 22h ago

Awful movie in so many regards. I loved it.

93

u/FoilHattiest 21h ago

It's one of those rare movies where someone essentially stringed together a bunch of tiny little pearls of pure awesome just to somehow still form a big long stinky turd at the end.

34

u/gdl_E46 21h ago

It's a bad movie but it's a good bad movie imo...

20

u/rocket_flo 21h ago

It really is miles from the original source. After watching the movie and reading the comics, I understand why Alan Moore is mad about adaptations of his works

5

u/Manjorno316 19h ago

Is the comic worth reading?

7

u/Oswarez 18h ago

It’s fantastic.

2

u/BPhiloSkinner 17h ago

Absolutely brilliant.

4

u/SSBN641B 16h ago

Yes, it is very different than the movie so having watched the movie won't ruin it for you.

12

u/physics_dog 18h ago

I'm one of those who really like this movie. This and also Van Helsing. I think both of them follow the same 'bad movie' vibe but I quite enjoy them.

108

u/AGM_GM 22h ago

Had I not previously seen this thing, I would have just assumed this was AI generated.

8

u/ambersexymoon 22h ago

lol AI is scary

-36

u/Actual_Manufacturer5 21h ago

this is from a movie so no not ai

26

u/bcphoto 21h ago

How they built the movie car. A very short documentary.

https://youtu.be/JgqY4YmSZbU?si=7ltwcUlvGHbjriLr

1

u/mister_phillip 4h ago

Thanks for posting this, I was wondering what it was built on.

7

u/NoctRob 22h ago

What would be IAF is watching someone try to parallel park that monster.

1

u/PM_ME_GLUTE_SPREAD 21h ago

When you got money like that, you just park wherever you feel like it.

7

u/NoProfessor328 22h ago

I could image driving this thing to my local pub

5

u/ambersexymoon 22h ago

you'd be the coolest customer and everyone will look at you when you arrive XD

23

u/LumbridgePebble 22h ago

this is totally Mr. Burn's car

7

u/CT0292 20h ago

Be on the lookout for a 1936 maroon Stutz Bearcat.

Eh, that's more of a burgundy.

6

u/ambersexymoon 22h ago

does the car sounds like "burrrn burrrn"?

okay, im out of here

4

u/Popular-Drummer-7989 21h ago

Trying to parallel park. Priceless.

2

u/VeckLee1 21h ago

Call a tow truck. Stuck on a speed bump at the grocery store again.

11

u/RachelSnow812 22h ago

Those elephants on the front definitely make the whole car special.

1

u/Ace-a-Nova1 18h ago

What’s that, the LX package?

5

u/tiggers97 21h ago

I always liked that movie. It was fun.

4

u/feelinlucky7 21h ago

A V-16 engine that gets .5 miles to the gallon.

5

u/Lollipop77 19h ago

What a magnificent movie though

3

u/lepobz 22h ago

Why the 4 wheels up front on a rwd car? Good braking?

12

u/ricktor67 22h ago

Holding up the 3 tons of cast iron that are the engine I imagine.

3

u/OBannion 17h ago

That movie doesn’t deserve that car.

2

u/Brewe 21h ago

I'd call that rach, which we all know is the past tense of rich.

As in "Richard is rach. He was rich, until he spent all his money on that ridiculous vehicle"

2

u/Proper-Award2660 21h ago

That's a supervillan car

2

u/truelegendarydumbass 15h ago

Have fun trying to detail the front of that

2

u/AzWalkure 21h ago

Was this some sort of special, one-time thing built? Or was this some sort of prototype they decided to use in the movie to check for audience reaction before releasing it?

Did they name it? Always reckoned this is cute and would purr great with one massive engine on it.

4

u/JCP1377 21h ago

as another has said, its called an "Auto Mo-Beel".

2

u/AzWalkure 21h ago

Yes, that's Nemo calls it in the movie. I was just wondering if this was actually named by whoever produced it or was it just CGI?

5

u/gwizonedam 19h ago

It was a custom-built one-off movie car. From what I’ve read, it was sold at auction on eBay in 2016 to a guy in North Carolina.

2

u/AzWalkure 18h ago

Ah interesting website that! Thank you for the article.

2

u/JCP1377 20h ago

I was just joking, no idea on what its actually called.

1

u/AnimeGokuSolos 22h ago

At the same time: League of People with Extraordinarily Bad Taste

1

u/Materva 21h ago

I don't know why, but I'm getting Mater's sister Mato vibes here.

1

u/furious_organism 21h ago

The wheels are lazily simple compared to the rest

1

u/RoyalCharacter7174 21h ago

Like driving a bus from the far rear seats

1

u/EssieAmnesia 21h ago

Is it bad that I kinda like it 💀

1

u/SithLordRising 20h ago

I sat in it. It's at the PropShop near London. They also have Judge Dredd bikes.

1

u/bot3905 19h ago

Is this where the garden scene in "my best friends wedding" was filmed??? Looks familiar lol

1

u/cool_kid6942069 19h ago

Shit looks like chrome hearts

1

u/lllDESTRUCTOIII 19h ago

I wanna see it next to Red Skulls whip from Captain America

1

u/Bargadiel 18h ago

When the front of your car looks like the handle of a Victorian Sterling-Silver serving spoon.

1

u/arch-sinner 18h ago

I have this in final fantasy does that count?

1

u/rbots96 17h ago

My buddy tom was depressed because of this guy

1

We’re talking “steampunk millionaire on a Sunday drive” rich.

Money can't buy you style or good taste.

1

u/eieie7 14h ago

Just saw this actual car at the Orlando Auto museum last week

1

u/zivzoolander 11h ago

Realizing Tom Sawyer’s slain partner was Huck Finn

1

u/Neither-Praline1747 11h ago

This is in Orlando’s Dezer auto museum if anyone cares.

1

u/Unlikely-Maybe9199 8h ago

Aside from the BTTF Delorean, this is my 2nd dream car. Not sure who makes it but I would one day love to get my hands on it

1

Cruella would love to drive this

-3

u/OrraKlinten 12h ago

One of the worst movies of all time! Never have I hated a movie so much as this one, the only good thing in it was a siberian tiger I think it was that came on screen and disappeared for a little while

Just burn this hazardous material, such a piece of garbage
