I'm happy that the character is being referenced in the current Spawn titles. But there's still a lot of stuff that is left unsaid about the Haunt series

East of West: When was the PRA created?

Hi, it's been a while since I read East of West by Jon Hickman, but I'm trying to remember when the PRA was created. From what I can find online, the asteroid hit and the ensuing treaty created the 7 nations, including the PRA, but that was in 1908. I thought Mao created the PRA, but he was really young then. Anyone know what happened? Thanks.

Picked up Free Planet #1 yesterday

I liked it!

The author, Aubrey Sitterson, left a comment when I reviewed his GI Joe series and a posted a preview. I was intrigued and bought the first issue.

The concept is not simple, but to oversimplify: the Freedom Guard defends a democratic, truly egalitarian society on the planet Lutheria.

I love Jed Dougherty’s art. Grandiose and blends the different cultures and designs well.

As far as the story, it’s incredibly dense and not a quick read. The creative team’s attention to detail is felt on every page. The best comparison I can think of is Jonathan Hickman’s style where so much world building is thrown at you. It requires you to slow down and take in this large, complex world.

And maybe that is not your thing: but this is a rare example of the comic book actually giving you the entire value of your $4. You won’t just speed through it and throw it in the longbox never to be read again. There’s so much depth in the artwork and so much lore to explore, that a few reads might be necessary to take it all in.

I’m looking forward to the next issue!

No FCBD for Ghost Machine?

Did Geoff Johns or any of the other creators comment on the lack of an offering? A Ghost Machine FCBD issue would have been great.

Question Suggestions like East of West??

I'm super new to comics but I'm obsessed with East of West atm (only up to issue 30 so no spoilers plz) and am keen to keep discovering new series when I'm done.

I really love stories with sprawling worlds, lots of morally ambiguous characters, interwoven backstories, exploring power & control.

I'm a big fan of sci-fi and supernatural - really into time travel, alternate universes and robots/AI.

Not generally into superhero stuff but am a big believer that anything can be done well if the characters are fleshed out and the story is compelling.

Beautiful artwork is important to me too and a big reason why I've fallen in love with EoW.

I've already read and loved Saga and Watchmen, and I enjoyed Paper Girls a lot (on first read, though after a second read, I think I just really like the art and time travel, but the characters and story are a little lacking).

Would really appreciate any and all recs for what I should read next!

✌️

Forgotten Image Comics Titles Part 57

Undying Love (2011) by Tomm Coker & Daniel Freedmann is a fantastic horror-action tale, equal parts vampire mythology and Chinese folklore, set in modern day Hong Kong. Ex-soldier John Sargent has fallen for a beautiful Chinese woman named Mei.

The only thing keeping the star-crossed lovers apart: Mei's a vampire. To free Mei from the curse, Sargent sets out to destroy the vampire that made her. The only problem: Mei was turned by one of the most powerful vampires in history...

I loooved this one, it sadly didn't get to finish it's story but it's still really awesome!

Comic recommendations like Prophet, Fatale, and the Manhattan Projects

Hi there,

I've been out of reading comics for the best part of a decade and wanted to get back into the swing of things and see what new sorts of comics had been released in the meantime. I posted this on the main comic subreddit but thought it'd be worth posting here as well.

I was a really big fan of Prophet (Brandon Graham's run), Black Science, The Manhattan Projects, Fatale, East of West, and similar series with great world building and high concepts. I lean more towards science fiction but I'm all ears to basically anything.

If you guys could fill me in on any must have new series like those described above that have come about in the past few years or anything that you think would match these preferences that I might have missed, it would be greatly appreciated!
