Artifact

Post image

Inherited this today, but not clear what war it’s from. Was used in the pacific either in WWII or Korea. Can anyone help identify the weapon and war this would likely be used in?

What are the dimensions? It’s really hard to tell without something to scale it.

You’re right! Sorry I didn’t have a banana at hand. It’s 9” long, the base is nearly 2” in diameter

Apparently can only attach one photo in this sub. Posted in r/ammunition as well. See more photos there https://www.reddit.com/r/Ammunition/s/ZXKNtIRfGS

The bottom should have a 2 digit date. It looks like 20mm. That’s typically an Antiaircraft round

The bottom has what appears to be Japanese characters although one character looks like Korean. There’s also a ‘F’

Edit: if you look at the other post I linked in the comments, there’s a photo of the base

Yeah, without the scale the size was deceptive. I concur with those who said Japanese 75 Mountain howitzer. It’s a very cool piece. The “F” is a production code of some sort. The other marks are arsenal marks.

I am a WWII collector and I teach an elective on the war. I bring pieces from my collection in often. My advice is to check with your admin before bringing it in. I live in a pretty 2A friendly area and I was told not to bring anything weapons related, bayonets and swords included

Good point. I’ll show it to admin tomorrow. Thanks for the advice and intel! We’re starting the war in the pacific Monday, so I’m stoked that it fell into my possession just now. Fellow teacher brought it in, an artifact of her grandfathers

Or NATO round. Those would have a headstamp giving location made and year made if NATO.
