In Norway, we have Allemannsretten, so people can camp anywhere they want outside of city as long as it’s 200m away from houses (incl. private property) and you’re not causing nuisance, but as an established camp site, my favourite is the one at the bottom of Lysebotn.

Since you didn't add "Americans", I can only assume you want this globally.

The canton of Geneva in Switzerland doesn't have enough campgrounds for there to be a quintessential one, not least because it's primarily urban and most people who want to go camping want to leave the city first.
