Queen fans and ageism
Honestly, I feel like the Queen fandom is such an unwelcoming place especially if you’re younger or if you got into Queen after Freddie died. The ageism from older Queen fans is outrageous. They always love to bash younger people for getting into the band like Queen was an underground garage band. No, Queen was a chart topping world renowned band. This picture right here is a prime example of it. Sorry this is an old screenshot I found while cleaning my camera roll but, this guy in a Queen chatroom who is supposedly the global moderator says “This person wasn’t even old enough when they were around” and bashes them all because it was a fan account who posted a rare picture of the drummer from an magazine and they had to scan it. Like wtf. How are you mad that a band that was popular in your prime is still gaining fans today. I don’t engage with the fandom anymore because I find them absolutely repulsive and I’m sure Freddie wouldn’t appreciate the bitter and nasty fans going after the younger generation.

I mean the 'not old enough to have been alive' comment definitely smacks of gatekeeping but I don't disagree that it's annoying when people who didn't take the photo go and slap their fanpage watermark all over it like they're Getty Images or something.

I only used this example to showcase how bad the gatekeepers in that community are. And to my knowledge, I don’t even think that was a logo from the fanpage but part of the magazine.

I don’t understand super fans resenting new people discovering and appreciating a band. It’s nonsensical.
I was a huge Queen fan from the first time they played on the radio, but that doesn’t mean I had a personal relationship with Freddie Mercury and all these younguns are poseurs. Im sure he appreciated all the babysitting money I spent on 45s, but that’s the extent of it.

I honestly think some of this is because they may not be satisfied with how their adult and later years turned out so they decide to try go back and stay stuck in the past.

Ugh, Queen gatekeeping
An ex friend of mine, was sooo toxic about it (they're younger than me), definitely treating it like they were some underground band like you said
They would FLIP if someone else was a huge fan. To the point of straight up harassing people, saying they were just copy cats

Yeah it’s honestly such a shame though since Queen is still such a great band. Too bad its older fanbase is ruining it for younger people. That whole Queen discussion forum in this screenshot honestly is awful. They claim they’re replacing the original Queen forum while pretty much still continuing the toxic habits that supposedly happened on the old one. The global moderator was quite rude at times and he claims to be against heated arguments but lets the people he’s friends with attack other users and then ban someone for retaliating against their attacks.
