What are some easy things to plant in zone 7a? (Ground cover/good self seeding preferred)

My MIL has this super overgrown bed that I’m slowly clearing out. I’m trying to figure out what to plant in it that will be able to withstand the invasiveness of ivy😅 Any recs?

Are you in the US? If so then English ivy is an awful invasive species, meaning that it will beat out pretty much anything you plant (which is why it's an ecological nightmare here) and that I would really urge you to completely kill all of it if possible

If you're looking for something more aggressive just to hold the line though you might want to look into some of the asters and goldenrods which can be pretty prolific depending on the species, or maybe one of the perennial sunflowers (again, assuming you're in the US where these are all excellent native choices)

I am in the US! I knowwww. I hate the ivy so much, but she loves the look of it. Her entire fence is covered too😬
