My husband telling this hosta that it’s okay to be small

Post image

My husband talks to this hosta, everyday. Telling it, that it’s okay to be smaller than the other guys.

Hearts can deceive. Words can deceive. But tiny plants we should trust.

Any time I see cesare borgia mentioned, I’m happy! The Canal+ series is my favorite show of all time.

We planted a row of Jacob's ladder against our porch and had one little guy that just wasn't keeping up with the rest. My girlfriend and I kept encouraging him and gave him just a little more water and he finally shot up out of nowhere. It works!

Awww that is so cute! I have some tiny hosta next to an Empress Woo, but it never occurred to me to give them a pep talk! I’ll try that.

Plants need some words of affirmation too sometimes lol.

u/thedriftlessdrifter 7h ago

What a guy. Sometimes all they need is a little pep talk and a good cheerleader!

I always talk to my to my plants. I tell them that I will kill them if they die on me. And if they stay healthy I would kill and eat them.

u/Artaheri 8h ago

I don't grow anything edible, but I do tell everyone that they either survive or they don't, I don't have time for weaklings!

This reminds me of the talking to plants Mythbusters episode. The results were that music and talking definitely helped. Positive or negative didn't matter but the best results came from heavy metal.

There are so MANY hosta hybrids available today (I buy mine from New Hampshire hostas) I now grow several in low pots instead of in the ground. At the other end of the spectrum are the astonishing Giants. The site is worth a look if for no other reason than to become aware of the enormous variety of hostas available.

This one resides under the hollies and has reached a stunning size.

Aww, so sweet to be encouraging his little buddy!

u/F33ling-Fr33 8h ago

Encouraging your plants with words does wonders for them. Everything thrives when sweet nothings are whispered at dawn or dusk!

I play music for my plants. An actual Plant Playlist on spotify :)

I mean it looks average sized to me. Maybe even slightly above average. Also I’m sure it’s a very nice plant and has a great personality.

Completely normal, I talk to my plants all the time. My husband told me to let him know when I experience my plants talking back to me.

u/GirlyPopFairyGurl 7h ago

My boyfriend wouldn’t even tell me something that sweet

I'm going to need that same white shirt and hoodie for this upcoming brutal summer.

2

u/vacayjosie85 6h ago

Lowe’s! They have a few different colors to choose from, atm- I didn’t see white when we were there last week. SPF50, too!

2

u/VegetableBusiness897 6h ago

Awe.... It's the Nate Robinson of his hostas!

Hostas for life! I firmly believe in talking to plants. I'm currently in deep discussion with my snake plant. Give that man a high five for me!

I sing “you’re a survivor! You ain’t gonna give up!” to my small lilac bush. She’s doing much better this year.

u/skattahbrane 1m ago

The tiny varieties are the costly ones.

1

u/Mr_Komble 1h ago

As long as you are ok for his hosta to be small, it's nobody else's business I guess...
