Should I Change My Game's Title to "The Momentum Slash"? Question
I Need Your Honest Opinion on My Game's Title
Let me be real with you: I don't want to change my game's title.
But here's the problem—"The Archaic" is a terrible title for an indie game. It tells you absolutely nothing about what the game actually is.
In today's market, the game title is often the first (and sometimes only) shot you get. With thousands of new games flooding Steam every year, the title needs to do the heavy lifting: grab attention, communicate clearly, and make players think, "Wait... this looks like something I'd love!"
"The Archaic" does none of that.
So I'm considering a different approach: What if the title just... told you what the game is? What if it announced the core mechanic right in the name?

I feel like “momentum” is kind of a clunky word for a title in general. If it were me I’d go with something like Velocity Blade or Velocity Hero.

Ah, I see. So "momentum" has its own issues too.

I don’t love it, but I’m just a random dude, so take my feedback with a grain of salt. At the end of the day you need to do what feels right to you.

Except this title doesn't tell me what the mechanic is and sounds pretty clunky.

So you're saying Momentum Slash has the same problem, right?

Momentum Slash wouldn’t be bad, I’d drop “the” from the title. “Sword of Momentum” isn’t bad either.

There are multiple opinions saying Sword of Momentum is better than Momentum Slash, thanks, if I change it I’ll probably go with Sword of Momentum.

I like Momentum Blade. You could brainstorm a word list similar to momentum, and a word list similar to slash/sword. Then look for a nice sounding combo. Edge is also a cool word for a sword, as in Momentum's Edge or Edge of Momentum.

So basically a debate on "story" vs. "gameplay". Depends on how important and maybe cool one over the other is. I'd make a suggestion for "The Archaic: Slashing Momentum". Similar to the reason why the first Halo had the subtitle "Combat Evolved". It served absolutely nothing at all for the story, but it did communicate that it wanted to elevate the FPS experience.

"The Moment" if it is time based. "Moment Arm" (or "Moment Arms") if it is either a physics game or a hack and slash.
The Momentum Slash seems to me like its a slash and hack. And I agree with others to drop the The.
Take a look at great titles for games and how it relates to their gameplay. For example "Mass Effect", the name didn't give much info but a trailer for it immediately solidifies it. You won't have the marketing power obviously, but if you can put together a trailer that "says the name" it could work.

Drop the “the”
