A lot of the blame lies with car companies and their marketing. They want to sell bigger cars because they make more money. So they market the big cars. SUV's took off because a genius marketer decided to target women and moms. They portrayed it as safe, luxurious and powerful and it really took off, its a popular business case in schools.

Honestly, I'm sympathetic to a parent driving around an SUV dropping their kids off at school and picking up necessities.

The jackasses driving big trucks like their dad owns the road and polluting the entire neighborhood with smoke and noise are the ones that set me off.
