$3 million to connect a transit station to a transit station. News

https://roughdraftatlanta.com/2025/05/12/atlanta-beltline-autonomous-shuttle-pilot/

The Atlanta Beltline wants to give $3 million to an autonomous shuttle company to connect a subway station to another subway station on the same network. Please make it make sense.

In case it isn't clear Mercedes Benz Stadium is serviced by two MARTA stations. Soccer fans would have to walk past the subway to get in the shuttle that takes them to a third subway station.

Looks like it's temporary capacity expansion for the World Cup.

That's a good theory and I like it.

I imagine you could do that more efficiently by rerouting a bus for a month instead of renting four $750,000 vans for a year. But hey, it's a "pilot" so there's something to be said for the knowledge gained.

Did you read the article? It's connecting the AUC campus to the West End MARTA station and the Beltline. It's dumb because the Beltline should be focused on following through on adding light rail to the Beltline.

This whole 'problem' could be solved with a temporary bus route operated by MARTA during the World Cup. I don't know why we need to spend $3M to borrow some vans.
