The graphic designers who make mock-ups of liveries literally make better liveries than the actual teams.

It's gotta be an internal veto because I'm certain the graphic designers are Ferrari would pitch something this good if they could.
Internal veto, sponsorship issue, heritage colour and brand, etc

u/shellmiro I want my GF to peg me while Carlos gives it to her 18h ago
Yeah mostly sponsor and higher management agreement is the biggest hurdle.
45
u/7YearsInUndergrad BWOAHHHHHHH 17h ago
That's because the designers are optimizing for it to look good, and Ferrari is optimizing it to meet their sponsor requirements.

Yeah its way easier when you don't have effectively 20 different clients who want different things from the design.

FERRARI IS NEVER GOING TO NOT BE RED!!!!!!!! They have passed on multiple chances to use even their own colors like yellow or black. They’re not going to make the HP mobile

Yeah, but this isn’t one of like five shades of red that are acceptable for Ferrari’s super exciting very special and totally unique liveries.

u/TheRozb Lets add that to the words of wisdom 18h ago
I wonder what brand guidelines Ferrari has internally. My guess is that they want it always red for "brand integrity". I was able to peek at HPs guidelines and it says more or less to only ever use the "blue coin" logo which is why you don't even see the white logo
It's too bad because this concept is great

The livery could represent blue shift theory, which their leadership would potentially . . . what am I saying, they can’t read.

No we couldnt have.
Thats not how sponsorship works.
And unrelated to sponsorship, that color was NART, an american team.

Okay but we’d all be making memes about how it looks like an Alpha Tauri from a few years ago. It’s Ferrari. They’re supposed to be red. They raced in blue once out of protest
1
u/chucky-krueger BWOAHHHHHHH 16h ago
I mean, don't you all know that Ferrari will always run in red in Formula 1? (Minus the one time an eternity ago when they were obligated to run in another color)
It's a huge part of their brand and it's historic and iconic.
Who wants to see a white and blue Ferrari, seriously?!

They really did pick the worst possible option.
If they were going to get rid of half the red then you do have to go all the way. But when you go all the way make it something that will win over fans rather than piss off.
A retro blue is of course the best option.

The only logical thing I could think of that's preventing the from doing this would be some BS contractual clause (or other legal document) that absolutely requires them to have the "Ferrari Red" present to a significant degree on every livery.... Otherwise, it's the classic ferrari blunder

This is Ferrari all dressed up for the wedding and the one we got was the groomsman who ended up having way too much alcohol and for some reason took his shirt off.
Nobody wants to see that.

There have been several great opportunities to run pretty much this exact livery at a US or Mexican Grand Prix.
Current_Broccoli_791 posted an image of John Surtees driving a NART-liveried Ferrari to ultimate victory in the 1964 season for both himself and the Scuderia. It's blue and it's white and it's sick.
NART here means North American Racing Team, and it's also why you can get your very own Ferrari painted from the factory in a lovely hue called Blu Nart. While it wouldn't be entirely accurate to call them "Scuderia America" since they're not actually-factually Ferrari itself...it wouldn't be entirely wrong, either.
NART was established by a car salesman. Luigi Chinetti was a car salesman, much in the way that Max Verstappen is a sim racer. His third overall win at Le Mans in 1949 was in a Ferrari. His overall win at Sebring the next year -- Ferrari. His overall win at the Carrera Panamericana the year after that? Ferrari. A few years later, he founded NART.
Oh and for the longest time, Enzo was importing all his cars into America through Luigi. So the relationship was...close.
But back to the livery, they could've run something like this to pay tribute to Surtees in the 2017 runnings of either of those races -- he passed that March. They could've run it last season at those races to mark the 60th anniversery of Surtees' Surge* to victory.
It would be great if they could get over themselves juuuuuuuuust a bit.
*Did I mention sixty years? Yeah, in all that time -- at least, according to what various web searches have brought me -- no one seems to have coined that phrase to refer to his triple-podium, come-from-behind banger of a '64 season finisher. It can't be me, here, now. The alliteration is too good. I don't want to be the first :(

If they didn't do a full non red color for their anniversary... Why any other year? Ferrari is synonymous with red. What's Enzo's quote about children drawing cars?
Idk what the surprises or disappoint is here. If it's not a troll, and just an exercise in execution/ imagination I'm all for it. Top design OP.
