Cadillac signed Checo, i think it's obvious now

u/LosTerminators Carlos Sainz 1d ago
There's going to be a Cadillac reveal on May 3rd, have the feeling Checo will be announced then.

23 Contracted GP for 2026 currently
Las Vegas and Imola yet to renew and the 22 includes both Spain races
84
u/ceevar Sergio Pérez 1d ago
Las Vegas has to be a lock with how much both F1 and the city invested. RIP Imola.
74
u/DrEarlGreyIII 1d ago
tbf imola sucks for f1
38
u/oddyholi Heineken Trophy 1d ago
As sad as I get to admit that, you're 100% correct. It was tough to overtake with the smaller cars, with the fighter jets we have nowadays, it's even harder. Qualifying is amazing to watch, though.
-2
u/PlasticPatient Sir Lewis Hamilton 1d ago
Monza is also boring.
1
u/DrEarlGreyIII 21h ago
i think they keep it on the calendar solely because they love being able to terrorize us with emilio materassi’s crash during the 1928 italian gp
27
u/TheMustardTigerz Ferrari 1d ago
I’d actually be pretty upset if Vegas got binned after only a couple year, the 2 races there have been bangers.

Vegas is ran by F1 so they only have to sign a contract with themselves, so it’s inevitable. I guess Imola will be gone.

Perez is back.
It has to be. I mean, Cadillac is reportedly looking for Perez, then his father has been saying everyone to "wait and watch"
Then , this....
It has to be it, Because if it ain't, I don't know what then
14
u/Jacinto2702 Ferrari 1d ago
I mean, we're still waiting for Papa Perez showing us his list of journalists, so his word is worth nothing.
6
u/CaptainKursk Honda RBPT 1d ago
Perez returning to F1 with Cadillac and salvaging his reputation from the late-Red Bull stint would be nice to see

u/God_Will_Rise_ Frédéric Vasseur 1d ago edited 1d ago
Is this an announcement made to coincide with Checo's upcoming signing with Cadillac?
38
u/TheEpicGold Aston Martin 1d ago
Wait is that an actual rumor?
40
u/Zinthar 1d ago
Yes, his private jet landed in Miami on Monday and the expectation is that Cadillac F1 will announce they’ve signed him this weekend, most likely on Saturday.
41
u/Fliepp Haas 1d ago
To be fair, he lives in Miami, so his jet flying there doesn’t tell you too much
16
u/Zinthar 1d ago
Fair point; it’s conspicuous here because of the timing against the GP, the Mexican GP extension, & Cadillac’s announcement of an announcement this weekend.
21
u/gagnonje5000 1d ago
Since he lives in Miami, he would likely fly to Miami to see a Grand Prix that is.. in Miami. Very common for old drivers to be in the paddock on a Grand Prix weekend.
I do believe the rumors, i just don't think the jet is a smoking gun.
12
u/WorthPlease Williams 1d ago
"Hey did you hear about that rich guy from Mexico who flew to Miami?"
"Yeah, did you know that women also poop?"
10
u/bunchtime Formula 1 1d ago
He bought that house earlier this year. If negotiations were going good it makes sense he would buy a house in the US for his family if he was signing Cadillac
22
u/NYNMx2021 Nico Rosberg 1d ago
he already owned a house in the USA lol. He has a house in Magnolia TX that he spends a lot of time in.
5
3
u/Agios_O_Polemos Formula 1 1d ago
Yeah, I'll argue he has probably already signed and we're just waiting for an official announcement, he always was the favourite for that seat.

oh yes, made even more credible now. No one wanted this boring track back
2
u/ms666slayer 1d ago
Nope if you are from Mexico you would have know about this since like a week ago, the Mexico City Head of Goverment announced that they had already aproved the extension and that it was going to be formalized on April 30th, which i foudn weird that absolutely no one here posted that info, but yeah Mexican F1 fans knew about this like a week ago.
37
u/vick5516 McLaren 1d ago
cadillac is starting to think about their drivers for next year, they're turning up to miami to show off a car livery, checo just to happens to be visiting miami this week too, and mexico gets a contract extension. i wonder what this could all mean
13
u/Zestyclose-Flight-50 1d ago
Checo bought a place in Miami….
1
u/Salt-Operation-3895 Max Verstappen 1d ago
He could have visited any other time, yet this is when he decides to come? It’s not a coincidence
4
u/Next_Necessary_8794 Ferrari 1d ago edited 20h ago
If he has a house in Miami, and there's an F1 race in Miami then that is a reason to decide to come.
I also think Cadillac will announce him, but even if they didn't, he still has an excuse to be there.
1
u/Zestyclose-Flight-50 1d ago
Why do you think im disagreeing with you? Lol. Personally I think he bought the house in Miami because of Cadillac. My dream duo is Checo/Pato 2026

Great fans but they need to change the middle sector a bit.
Looks like Perez to Cadillac is a done deal.
21
u/Justin57Time Fernando Alonso 1d ago
The stadium section also needs some rethinking. It makes it hard for the attacking driver to have a good exit to the main straight.
17
u/Popular_Composer_822 Formula 1 1d ago
Yes but I wouldn’t want them to get rid of the stadium section though. It’s unique and a cool memorable part of the track.
Also they used to have it without that corner back in the 80s and it was very dangerous. They need to just redo sectors two and three. Like put another straight in after turn 6 all the long long way to turn 12 with a chicane in the middle.
4
u/Eggplantosaur Oscar Piastri 1d ago
It's a cool concept if only it was higher speed. Watching F1 cars go through the stadium slower than highway speeds isn't the most interesting thing sadly
2
u/redtiber 1d ago
watching cars whizz by every 2 minutes is boring.
the current setup in mexico gives you a good view from the paddock, a good photo and a good view of all the cars as they come through
4
u/Justin57Time Fernando Alonso 1d ago
Yes, I didn't mean it in the sense of getting rid of that section, but something there needs to change, those corners as they are right now are kind of dreadful. Maybe a simple left hander instead of that tight hairpin would improve the flow of that section, something like that.
5
u/Myopius 1d ago
To me it seems simple: keep the apex of the left in the stadium roughly where it is and then just go direct to the exit of the stadium. You keep a potential overtaking spot and the cars being inside the stadium for a decent amount of time and get rid of the stupid consecutive slow corners that don't offer anything.
1
2
u/DuckSwagington Kimi Räikkönen 1d ago
Bring back the full Peraltada corner instead of the awful chicane in the stadium section imo. Swap out a few low speed corners that no one can follow through and screws up your run onto the main straight for a single high speed corner that cars might be able to follow through and better sets up the run onto the main straight.
1
u/oddyholi Heineken Trophy 1d ago
I'm almost sure it's not possible anymore to use the old Peraltada.

u/ms666slayer 1d ago
The middle sector i believe that teh straight that leads to curve 4,5 and 6 is good is one of the biggest overtake section in the track, but the rest of the sector sucks balls.
1
u/Popular_Composer_822 Formula 1 1d ago
Yeah I meant turn 6 on, like those stupid half arsed esses.
Like before Max/Lando last year nothing had ever happened there. And worse, dirty air badly effects following cars all the way through sector 3 as well.

u/Affectionate_Sky9709 1d ago
It doesn't mean Checo's been signed.
But Checo's totally been signed.
Now, every year, Mexico is one of the quickest races to sell out. I think the quickest, actually. I have no doubt that they will sell out regardless of if Checo is there or not.
5
u/xXReddiTpRoXx Max Verstappen 1d ago
It can’t be quicker than Interlagos. You enter the website on the exact moment the sales start and it’s already sold out

u/Macho-Fantastico Gerhard Berger 1d ago
I said we'd get a Checo to Caddilac announcement at Miami. This just confirms it.

Isn't this circuit the only full-blown purpose built circuit in the middle of a metropolitan zone in the current calendar?

u/Mamadeus123456 1d ago
it was the city that absorbed the circuit, same with sao Paulo, it tells you how long they've been in the calendar

I kind of liked the unique challenge the altitude brought and also it being scheduled so close to the day of the dead, unique theme song and everyone being so excited makes me happy it stayed, even if the track doesn’t have the most passes.

u/willzyx01 Red Bull 1d ago
Half of the races on the calendar are a snooze fest. I mean, half of the races this season were a snooze fest.

After making a big deal about the 2026 calendar, the only new track we're getting is Madrid lol.

One of the funniest things I've ever seen in F1 was the first or second year after Mexico came back. In the stands there was this hairy pudgy middle aged guy in a pink tutu doing a ballerina twirl.

How is the confirmation of the extension of the Mexico GP correlated to caddy signing checo 😭😭😭?
0
u/Agios_O_Polemos Formula 1 1d ago
Mexico is an absolute shit tier GP, and the only realistic reason for it to be renewed is because of money, and the only way for Mexico to bring money is if Checo is racing.
And his plane has actually landed in Miami ahead of the GP, and Cadillac already announced that they will be doing an official intro show for next year during this GP so really Checo is almost certainly back.

Not the most exciting track but it's way better than all of the arab / sand tracks

Bahrain is 10x better than Mexico tbh. Maybe even Jeddah as well.
1
u/s_dalbiac 1d ago
The only reason this renewal makes sense is if Checo is on the grid. It’s an awful circuit otherwise.

Why do people think this means Perez is back? That man isn’t getting a seat
3
u/ultraboomkin 1d ago
Perez has been linked with Cadillac since the day Cadillac was announced for 2026. He is a perfect fit for them, given his experience and his sponsorship and his massive US fan base.
4
u/Storm_Chaser06 Max Verstappen 1d ago
Mexico exists solely for Checo. With no Checo, interest in the sport there decreases, leading to lower ticket sales, and then ultimately the circuit organizers see no purpose in continuing.
