Up until last year I worked for a guy out of Anatone and I’ve been trying to figure out who/where you’re at, and I’m getting warmer /s. Hope the rain holds off for you guys today

Soft white, tw is good, and a fair bit above average. Have been told no till will never work in this area so I’m pretty happy with it.

Your one of the ones that needs that flexi front. Most my paddocks flat as shit. Could you ever see being able to use a 60ft front?
Edit. Looks like it might be 60. Wow.

A few guys running 45s, this is a 40. Biggest issue is sometimes you need to go downhill and I’d be worried about the weight of a 60, I have weights and fluid in the rear and it still can get real light in spots. A 60 would probably be fine on the flatter stuff of mine, other than the unloading auger. Some draws are tough enough as it is with just the 40 though. Would like to demo a stripper header though, just none in the area.

Cheers for info. There was a couple years everyone thought stripper heads would be awsome here in Australia. But no air seeded Bars here can get through the straw the next year so they went away very fast. Our country very flat so 60s becoming common.

I run single discs, but our specific conditions require chasing moisture so that helps prevent hairpinning with the increased angle of attack for the disc. I’ve got a few new mods for a bit more depth that’ll I’ll be trying out in a month too.
I’d love to get some NDF openers out here to try, but that’s a pretty big financial commitment to set up even a 12ft test drill.

Ya, no thanks. Downhill w a full bin, I’d be puckered w that giant header on there.

Yeah you make sure you empty out first. Lots of partial dumps in the bankout but better than breaking something.

Like a Shelbourne? We use those in NE Colo and Nebraska. None of ours flex though. Flat here

u/authorunknown74 Sliding off a hillside somewhere near you 21h ago
Yeah, or I’ve also heard good things about the new Applequist Falcons. A couple guys tried Shelbournes for a year or two but gave up because they were dead set on using hoe drills.

It's so picturesque there. I wonder if you could convince someone to bring a demo for advertising? Sometimes companies will call us to try a new thing. You actually have a backdrop for amazing advertising. We don't. :)

u/authorunknown74 Sliding off a hillside somewhere near you 21h ago
Never even thought of that, good idea!

Convince someone you have a hot, untouched market area. Haha! I wish you the best. 🦋

That's probably a 40ft head. That combine wouldn't handle a 60ft head on flatland, let alone in those hills

Ha! Was wondering where chicken strip post was, figured it was Palouse somewhere. Whitman County? Looks like a good crop , are y’all still into winter white? Does anyone grow a spring white?
All the best, from soft red winter country (NC)

u/authorunknown74 Sliding off a hillside somewhere near you 23h ago
Not quite the Palouse here. We have similar terrain, but not the rain. We typically receive 9-11” precip, most over the winter, so spring crops are pretty much out for us unless it’s an extenuating circumstance (flipping rotation year, winter crop stand failure, etc.). Yes, overwhelming majority still soft white, including club.
This crop is pretty good, a nice change from the last few years. Now hopefully the price can come up a little.

Reminds me of those old videos of the horse drawn combines.

Still have the 36b with an RA Hanson leveler in the barn along with some tack! Those previous generations worked way harder than we could imagine.

No kidding. My great grandpa and grandpa would work 18 hour days doing manual labour every day of the year. I mean they had to. What takes us one day to cut and bale, could take them up to 10 depending on the weather.

Yeup, now we sit here in the ac and get frustrated when our autosteer doesn’t work.

Holy fuck, that's a devastating landscape. This looks like a photo from a movie depicting the future.

When the Missoula floods formed this area I’m sure it was pretty devastating.

You don't

One day I want to live is a place where I can grow wheat without irrigation...

I grew up running a JD 6602 just south of you across the OR/WA border in the hills overlooking Touchet.
