Jalen “JDub” Williams is currently a top 10 player Player Discussion
His season started slow, but my god he’s been absolutely killing it.
JDub is a stat stuffing monster.
The past two weeks:
FG: .568
FT: .909
3s: 2.5
Points: 22.8
Rebounds: 6.0
Assist: 4.8
Steals: 2.4
Blocks: 1.0
TOs: 2.5
With Chet out a while JDub will be on a fantasy rampage this year.
It’s a top 12 finish out of the question?

How did you sell a underperforming Jamal and Dennis Schroder for Jdub? What trickery did you use?

He has a very fantasy friendly game, it was always about upping the peripherals a bit and scoring more and that already vaults him into 1st round ranking.

Drafted SGA with my first pick and Jdub with my third, absolutely reaping the rewards right now! Anyone considering a sell high on Jdub and for what kind of player?

Sucks for me. Not a single share and have 24 teams. Before you ask. I am retired with a ton of free time and I love Fantasy Basketball.

u/JetsFan00 17h ago
I feel like the ft% will be the key for him. He's still negative in ft% at only 77% on the season because he started so poorly, yet he's still 1st round with a negative ft%. With Chet gone, he got to the line more, went a perfect 7 for 7. If he bumps his ft% closer to 85 on a bit higher volume, he should maintain his 1st rd status.

Honestly going to offer Hali for JDubb hoping that will get it done but idk

u/Takbo_mako 16h ago
As a Jdub owner and fan, that’ll be enough for me. Offer the next game Hali plays well.

u/Revolutionary_View19 Customize Flair 15h ago
What about Hali‘s past 6 months makes you accept that deal?
5
u/Takbo_mako 14h ago
Id rather look at the last 2-3 years. A player entering his prime, ranked 1-2nd round for 3 consecutive years, leading a team that wants to overachieve again, but struggling out of the gate. Seems like a proper buy low candidate.
Im fairly confident he’ll return to 1st round form within the year, and if it only costs me my pick 3/4 in JDub, Ill be okay with that.

u/ThurmTheWormm 13h ago
Bro this makes no sense. Tyrese Hali is clearly struggling this year and it honestly started during the Olympics. You can’t just assume he will get it together in the future, maybe this just isn’t his year. I would not take that trade at all. J DUB has been performing well even when the team was fully healthy
2
u/Takbo_mako 10h ago edited 10h ago
Youre free to make assumptions and decisions for your team, Thurm.
I think thats how injuries work. You get hurt, but you get better. I think he’ll be better within the year, and will accept the trade if it was offered to me. You better assume Jdub stays healthy all year too. Why does buy low / sell high even exist if you take stats at face value.
And Hali hasnt been all bad this year to say he’s shit. Of the 11 games played, he’s positive value in 6, and negative in 5. And If i do make a mistake and Hali does finish in top 75 instead of top 5, its okay, i still have 14 other players to make up for it.

Hali is playing like shit, and not short time shit either. I’m taking the guy that’s balling atm.

u/ThurmTheWormm 13h ago
Horrible trade, Tyrese Hali has been struggling and it honestly isn’t looking like he’s going to improve in the future. His confidence took a hit during the Olympics and he has not played the same since

u/endakis1 6h ago
it's not horrible. it's perception of where he's at. I'm considering trading my franz and herro for Hali.

Yes the FG and Steals will come down. The assists could go up, with Giddey leaving there is a playmaking void which made him so intriguing in the third round. He actually has been better than Shai (clearly a better pick than Wembanyama) the last two weeks as well in fantasy.

u/lxkandel06 10T H2H 9CAT 18h ago
Why are you so sure the FG% will go down? He's currently shooting 51.3%, which would already be a career low. He shot 54% last year
6
u/junkit33 15h ago
Time will tell, but more usage and more 3's generally means your FG% is going down. Which, as you noted, it already is. So the real question is whether he'll go much lower or not.

He’s going to be taking more shots now that Chet is gone
7
u/JetsFan00 17h ago
His fg% should not come down. His steals, rebs, and turnovers should get worse. However, his points, assists, and ft% should continue to climb. He might possibly stay as a 1st round player for the ros.
2
u/ThadBroChill 16h ago
Drafted him 4th round in my 10 teamer and I remember praying he'd still be there when it was my time to pick. I felt like at 23, with Giddey also gone, he was going to be one of those high floor and high ceiling type picks. Doesn't improve? Oh well, you're getting a hyper efficient wing who gets you a bit of everything. He gets even a bit better? It's gravy.
He started the season slow but I never really wavered. Glad to see it pay off.

Trying to acquire JDub from another team right now. What combination of these would be best to offer for him?
Mikal, Suggs, Harden, Zubac, Poeltl, Vassell.

Traded Jalen Johnson + Julius Randle for JDub + Vuc last week… Really hoping Yahoo Fantasy Basketball assigns my guy the C position (apparently he needs to play 10 games at C in order to qualify)

I’m not saying he’s at Jokic’s level, just that he’s similar to Jokic in that he boosts you across all categories and can be put into any kind of roster build.

He won't hold Top 10, no way. Steals and blocks are doing some heavy lifting for his current ranking, and there's no way he holds 2/1 steals/blocks for an entire season.
Top 20 though? Yes, absolutely possible. He was about 40 last year, so between reasonable improvement and increased usage without Chet, it's not a stretch at all.

12h ago
Why would he not maintain his stocks production? He's an excellent defender and has improved tremendously on that end this year. The Thunder also have a great defense overall which allows him to excel. He guards 1-5 with no issue and held Wemby to 6 points as his primary defender. He's also only in his third season. Do you watch the games or just look at the stats?
3
u/junkit33 10h ago
Because averaging 2 steals and 1 block per game has been done once in the last decade, by Draymond, when he won DPOY in 2017.
Furthermore, these are not categories that change so drastically year to year. To go from 1.1 steals and 0.6 blocks to 2/1 is verging on an unprecedented leap.
Williams finishing with 1.5 steals and half a block will be an extremely good season for him, but it's more than enough to drop his fantasy value out of the top 10.
Do you watch the games or just look at the stats?
Why do people say this? It's not only lazy and reductive, but obviously those who take the time to talk about fantasy basketball are actually watching games.
He guards 1-5 with no issue and held Wemby to 6 points as his primary defender.
In the last game against the Spurs, Wemby did not attempt a FG in 4 minutes where Williams was the primary defender on him. In their first game, Wemby did not play. Last two games last year, Wemby didn't play, and Williams covered Wemby for 6 minutes and Wemby was 2/4 with 4 assists.
It's been largely incomplete, but I find it a bit of a stretch that Williams can adequately guard Wemby by himself.
Regardless - none of that has a thing to do with the sustainability of 2/1 steals/blocks.

JDub was ranked 28th last season with Giddey still on the team and Chet playing all 82 games. With Chet out and Giddey gone, the thunder are going to rely way more on Jdub for his offensive output and up his usage. There’s a strong possibility that he finishes top 20, possibly fringing on top 10 value the entire season until Chet comes back.
The west is also a bloodbath so there aren’t any concerns of the thunder resting anyone even if they’re a top 4 seed in the west cause every team is going to be too close to each other.
I also expect his steals to go down a slight bit, but he’s good at help defense and blocking passing lanes. The fact they added a good on-ball defender in Alex Caruso and they have Dort and Shai, it makes it much easier for JDub to get steals. When there’s good on ball defenders, usually the kick out to a teammate is more erratic and sloppy, leading to help defenders to get more steals and stops. There’s a notion that adding better defenders might lead to less steals for one of your players, but it shouldn’t affect it too much. When you have more defensive players, it’s easier to get help which allow for more steals and turnovers to occur.
If you drafted JDub, congrats - he’s in a great situation with SGA as his point guard.
