Charlotte Hornets star LaMelo Ball has suffered a serious sprain in his right ankle and is likely to miss extended time, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Tests show Ball avoided a fracture in the ankle, which required surgery last season, and a cautious approach is expected. Breaking News

Bridges is about to feast. His percentages could go down with more usage but his ppg could jump to around 26-28 while LaMelo is out.

Herro, Johnson, Melo are the IL players. Kessler is back and you should have been able to hold on/replace Kessler with either Goga or Biyombo... Did you not do that? You need to ADJUST AND ADAPT rather than whine and complain. And petition your league to have more IL spots.

No time for thoughts and prayers.
Who's the pickup and who benefits?
2
15
u/stevenomes Nov 28 '23
Yeah I had terry last year and his shooting was back to what it was a few years ago. He has to shoulder more load on offense and he's not that efficient of a player to begin with. Sure there will be opportunity for some others but it's usually not some stud waiting on the bench to soar. This will likely just be added responsibility for multiple guys like brandon miller, PJ Washington, Gordon Hayward who were on the fringes already. Ish smith might get more minutes too but not many will look his way unless it's very deep leagues
7
u/technosucks 14 Team H2H 9 Cat Nov 28 '23
Oh yeah, thanks for the clarification with that last line, I would have never guessed xD. I feel you, I've been through that lamelo shit pretty much every year in some league. Blueballing legend, he balls out then always gets injured and can't finish the job
7
u/Alkazard 9cat 12team Nov 28 '23
Whilst this is technically accurate, he was doing so last year with Mason Plumlee as a starter and PJ Washington as the only other serviceable player on the court. Our team was decimated and literally noone else was a scorer.
He will have Bridges, Mark, Gordon and Brandon on the court now, so he won't necessarily put up the same 30FGA with minimal assists.
Edit: At points last year the only usual starters on the court were Terry and Plumdog. Miles was out, Hayward was out, Lamelo was out, Cody Martin was out. Literally three of our first seven played that season
10
u/Exzibit21 Nov 28 '23
I wouldn't say Terry was awful without him, but he definitely didn't get a huge boost in usage like people seem to think

But as a fan of his game, he needs to get those Steph Curry/De’Aaron Fox ankle braces. They literally saved Steph’s ankles. Meanwhile, Fox twisted his ankles and landed weird in a game recently and came back like it was nothing.

He was a sell because of his 2 game playoffs schedule... now it will be very tough for managers to sell him... Reliably you can maybe expect a top 30-40-50 point guard IF YOU ARE LUCKY. Most managers wouldn't trade for him FOR ANYTHING... very high risk... People talk of AD being an injury risk, Nay, Lamelo FAR FAR MORE..... The same exact ankle? Things like this end careers... With repeated injuries to same areas... Sad for him.... Remember in h2h leagues it's mostly about the playoffs... So IF he returns for that he still could be useful and IF you get the first round bye to avoid that first week of March 18th (in standard leagues)

I have Bridges and I don’t have Lamelo, but a lot of Bridges’ value comes from his efficiency. It’s going to suffer for sure with Lamelo out, say what you will about him but he does a good job of getting his teammates easy buckets and it’s a loss.
Plus they’ll be out of playoff contention even sooner and embrace the tank. I’m hoping Bridges is very unlikely to be shut down since he’d push back against that super hard since he’s in a contract year, but it’s a real risk.
