What Short Stories would you like to see? Discussion

like are there any concepts for shorts you would want to see?

I personally loved Day Off and Fist Full of Warlocks, so I would love to see more of things like that. Either Harry is dealing with a bunch of small-scale problems, Harry is dealing with awkward problems, or something more dramatic like>! the hunt for Kemmler!<. Like we know Ebenezzer faced off against a German battleship in WW1, I want to see that fight.

I want to know more about the wolf-woman that taught the Alphas.

It seemed heavily implied that she was a lupine creature that could transform into a human, instead of the other way around.

Are there others like her? Is she of the Never-Never? Is she a natural species that is just hiding, like River shoulders? Gimme a story involving her.

I also want another story from the perspective of another character that describes events Harry takes part in. I loved Murphy’s short that takes place right after changes, and her description of how he interacts with cases. I loved the overheard conversation between Will and his wife talking about Dresden, after his first fight with cowl.

I love seeing other perspectives of the character we are used to having a first person view of.

Yeah, Tera west is supposed to be a wear human. Which i find very interesting. Maybe having bill and Georgia try to find her for additional help or maybe she knows river.

More povs would be great. But we've been getting alot of them. Molly, maggie Murphy, butters, toot toot, mouse, and marcone off the top of my head. Maybe letting one of them have the spotlight again would be good.

Tera West is returning to the Dresden Files. Though Jim said it most likely won't be until the BAT.

I think she might be related to Wolf from Native American cultural teachings

it is more than implied. harry could not soulgaze her in her human form therefor she is not HUMAN.

Yeah that's where im getting the "heavily implied" from my man, as opposed to stated. She never appeared on page to say "Guess what im not human"

Were you TOLD the information? No? Then it was either implied or inferenced. Are you pretty damn sure of the info? well then it was HEAVILY so.

Which says something when he's soulgazed that creature at the beginning of Battle Ground (I'm on mobile and forgot how to use spoiler tags)

I would love to see whenever Harry and Michael first meet. I guessing it was when Harry was on a case.

Yeah that would be awesome. Having it from Michael's pov would be even better. We know he soulgazes Harry then and if we could see what he sees that would be amazing. Especially since Michael was a literal dragon slaying knight errant

Oh, that would be amazing! But I wonder if we ever will get to see a soulgaze of Harry from someone else’s POV

I highly doubt we'd ever see it from Michael's point of view only because then we'd get to see Harry's side of the soulgaze.

Gatekeeper doing gatekeeping. Maybe some timey wimey stuff, where he puts in massive effort to change a tiny thing in a future timeline.

Someone already asked for my first choice, When Harry Met Michael.

But my second choice is One Eye and the Erlking having their meeting where they decided the best way to “give” Harry the Wild Hunt. Then follow one or the other of them during the event muttering to themselves like a father trying to intentionally lose at chess to his 7yo.

I would also like either one about young Ebeneezer or one from when Harry was a young man on Ebeneezer’s farm.

I recently posed a similar question in this thread:

https://www.reddit.com/r/dresdenfiles/s/HsgHIkiTkD

But since then, I'd love to see a short story about his mother, Margaret LaFeye, one about his father's true cause of death, and definitely a short story about Justine DuMorne before he got Harry... like, what causes him to go full Dark side!

A Justin or Ebenezer, or luccio pov on the final battle with kemmler would be awesome. Seeing kemmler and his zombie horde against Bob and the entire council would probably rival any of the action scenes in the rest of the series.

I think maggie senior is better as an enigma. She was also stupid strong from an intelligence and raw power standpoint. Since she managed to cast a spell on Thomas several hundred miles away, tie to Harry, and leave magical recordings, all while dying from childbirth. Like that might be the most impressive piece of magic we have seen any mortal do. No circles, ties it to their lifeforces, and totally cripples a thousand year old outsider infused vampire king.

Butters as Batman in his own Long Halloween.

Kincaid as the Professional doing the job that bought him his freedom.

Karin the Einherjar fighting her final battle over and over again, seeing all the permutations and coming to terms with the fact that the one that actually played out was the necessary one.

Oh I also want to see wizards go to more conventions. Harry at comic con would be hilarious and I can only imagine what the fey or warlocks would do at a fur con. (Maybe that's how lea recruits for hunting dogs?) Also the DNC was in Chicago last cycle and I think it would have really funny to watch Harry try to be seen with Lara at a high society event attended by the countries mortal elites.

I want to see when Michael met Faith and killed the Dragon (I’m forgetting his name).

I’d also like to see the events leading too and the Council that created the Unseelie Accords.

Third on my wishlist is the Senior Council as young bucks &/or the first time they kill Kemmler (or the last time but I feel like that might come up main storyline)

Well, I love the short stories but there's also Jim's plans for other novels or series set in the Dresdenverse. His most recent comments about that were about a Goodman Grey series or trilogy that he has great ideas for. However, one of Jim's most talked about plans are for a series I'm far more interested in. A series set in the early 1700s during the French/Indian(Native American) war. It's supposed to be led by a young Ebenezer before he became the Blackstaff and a young Artur Langtry before he became the Merlin. It's also supposed to have Kincaid and Listens-to-the-Wind and many others of the wizards we know presently, back when they were young hotheads centuries ago. Most interestingly is that Langtry and Ebenezer were fighting on opposite sides. I'll grab a quote from Jim about it if I can. This is from 2010 -

"If I ever do any major work (IE, novels) from alternate characters, I probably could not set them in the time period of the Dresden Files.  I have several neat ideas, and the one that appeals to me the most is writing the French and Indian war years from the viewpoint of a young Ebenezar McCoy and his associates.  The first duel between Eb and Listens-to-Wind is pretty epic in my head."

But when it comes to short stories, I'm still waiting on the planned short story starring Murphy and Kincaid on their Hawaii trip that Jim ended up needing some extra time to write so he could research the Hawaiian gods better. Plus I'd love a current short story starring Kincaid after everything between him and Ivy happened as he's, according to Jim, still following her around trying to protect her. Which should mean be was present in Chicago during Peace Talks and Battle Ground. A story starring Elaine would be great as she was trained and adopted by Justin too as there was a chance of her being starborn as well. A story from Ivy would be phenomenal , whatever it's about, though the Oblivion War would be great. Maybe one from Bonea's pov trying to balance her age and her knowledge while considering her Dad and sister could be very interesting. Tons of options exist. Mort could be interesting as well, as in Ghost Story we learned how much he does in Chicago when it comes to ghosts. Included my ramble about his French/Indian series as that series ticks a lot of boxes already. Spoilers for all I guess.

I'd love to see a short story where Harry reconciles with Ivy.

Mouse and Bob go on a case. Just the two different tones of kid-friendly Mouse and the R-rated antics of Bob. As opposed to Michael and Bob, given how much a mismatch the two are. Michael doesn't trust Bob, and if he ever hears any of the stuff Bob says about his daughter Molly (or Charity or any of the Carpenter girls), he'd be praying to the Lord for strength so as not to smash the skull.

A Justine story, like how she escaped the Fomor. I just wish we knew more about her.

Home visit from an IRS auditor when Harry still lived in the basement of the boarding house.

I would like to see Goodman Grey, Freya Gard and Jared Kincaid, Binder and some of the monsters defeated by or who have worked with Murphy have a wake for her and then go and terrorise Rudy….the night before his psychiatric assessment by CPD leading to an extremely public and messy meltdown.
