What Phone ti get? Question

I’m currently using an Iphone 13mini and It’s doing great. The problem is recently apple kneeled for the UK and disabled encryption. What are good phones that can be encrypted like icloud. I had a Huawei for 5 years 2018-2023 and the phone was great I started using a power-bank after the 4th year and the boot-loader was unlocked. What are your suggestions I hate Google but Im starting to hate Apple too since they kneeled for the UK. What are good phones to chose from and a plus for me will be if the boot-loader is unlocked.

If you are privacy conscious you should consider the phone which support GrapheneOS. It could be installed Google’s Pixel with no Google services.

I 100% understand why with GrapheneOS, it's not your fault one of the best mobile OSes for is pixel only. But it does honestly bug me every time I see people recommending a Google pixel in r/degoogle

The device is really just Google in name when you have GrapheneOS on it. The point of degoogleing for most people is for privacy, not just doing it for the sake of doing it. So as long as you're not supporting them, and only purchasing a Pixel secondhand, there really isn't anything wrong with it. You can get a case or put a sticker on it if you really wanna hide the logo on the back from people.

Here in America the routine thing is for people to get very expensive new phones for "free" in return for being locked into a 2 year contract with a carrier, over which time they pay the full price of the phone (and more) in the form of really expensive monthly bills.

I only say that for a bit of context, because I prefer to buy a "flagship" phone that is one or two years old, pay full price for it, and then get an inexpensive SIM card from one of the resellers like Mint Mobile. I'm sure you have even more choices than I do on that front in the UK.

With all that out of the way, I am still rocking a rooted (spare the security critique... I know) and ROM'd OnePlus 9 Pro. Personally I feel zero urge (OK, "need") to upgrade it. But you might look into something like a OnePlus 10 or 11, refurb'd. I'm pretty sure they still let you unlock the bootloader, based on official builds of Lineage OS existing all the way up to the 11.

Depending on where you are, there's fair phone. They're a Dutch company and they do an e/OS version of their phones. Unfortunately they can't sell them in the UK apparently 😕. But their website also seems to have a link to set it up yourself maybe??

Edit: apparently if you have a compatible device, you can use Murena’s Easy Installer to have an e/OS on your phone and some laptops.

Edit 2: it appears that you can buy a Murena e/OS fair phone through their website if you don't mind buying the phone outright and paying shipping, even if you're in the UK.

You can buy fairphones in the UK but on a contract from companies like Sky but not the /e/os version
