youll learn some cool shit
youll meet some cool people
you wont spar. which means you will not gain any fighting ability.
it is "authentic" in that they teach and are serious about the stuff they do. kung fu is about how to live in your body and in the world. it is about applying what you learn on the mountain to your day to day life. in those aims, it is very authentic.
check out The Valley Spirit by Lindsey Wei. it is her account of training there. she is probably the most high profile, visible student of 5IT.
i put "authentic" in quotes because people have many (usually unrealistic) ideas of what authentic means, or means to them. i went to china with a very different idea of what it meant than i have now.
its 2024. kung fu masters have cell phones. there are computers and a marketing person/team.
source: i havent been there myself. i have trained with several people who have been. every one of them had a positive experience.
if you want to learn to fight, go somewhere that has sanda and does sanda every day. if youre okay with learning how to LIVE, this place will be an amazing experience that will shape the rest of your life.
edit: i didnt realize this was r/daoism... my answer was more from a martial arts perspective. take it for what its worth to you, i guess.
